Gave my day yesterday! I had a great time and the rain we had on Friday and that has started up again tonight was away and it was gorgeous for my outdoor park work. I already got a notice from the organization that they have let Disney know. I'll let you all know when I get my voucher! (Hopefully by the 22nd, when I'll be there.)

I would like to know how is it that many people have had no problem with taking part in this promotion, but then myself and others are having the complete opposite expericence? I started a thread regarding this subject, if anyone is interested in adding similar or the same kind of experience as myself.

I can appreciate your frustration as we live in an area that doesn't normally use the Hands On Network, so opportunities here are also very limited. As someone who works with the local Friends of the Library, I expect our non-profit may organize something like a book drive for later in the year just to generate some word of mouth about our organization and give families an opportunity to volunteer together.

You can also self-organize your friends and neighbors for a volunteer opportunity by following suggestions in the FAQ on the Disney website.

Personally, my DH and I ended up registering with the national office of Project Linus and shipped off the blankets we made over the weekend today. We have also organized a couple other familes and they have also signed up. We will then celebrate with our " Give a Blankie, Get a Disneyland Trip," staying at GCV when the girls are out of school in June.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

This was my experience with the Give a Day program:

Jan 1 (3am) - Signed up and found our volunteer project (Making blankets for a local homeless shelter)
Jan 1 (5pm) - received email that their office was closed, but she would be getting back to me by midweek with more info.
Jan 4 - received info with all the details I needed to finish the sign up process (we needed to choose a date) and what size blankets they wanted
Jan 7 - made our blankets, dropped off the blankets at the shelter and emailed our sign in sheet
Jan 8 - received email that they verified our service with Disney
Jan 11 - received email from Disney to print our vouchers. :cool1:

Sometime between Jan 4th and Jan 6th, the project we had chosen dropped out of my acct with Disney (it was still showing up as ours on Hands On though). I just chose it again on Disney's site and got a message from Hands On that we were already signed up for it. It still didn't show correctly with Disney and since it was the middle of the night, I gave up and went to bed. When I got up in the morning, it was showing correctly again. :confused3

I thought it was a great experience. Our family does several service projects every year with our Boy Scout Troop. It was fun for all of us to try a different kind of project and my 15 and 12 year old boys were shockingly excited to get their hands on my sewing machine!

For those who did the blankets for Project Linus, you just mail the paperwork with your made blankets to the address in IL and then they will get ahold of you when they receive them with an email with your vouchers for tickets? You don't have to register online before hand, correct?

So since it's 2fer time, can these be used for 2fers? Last year, the free birthday tickets given during the 2fer time period were 2fer tickets.

For those that are having trouble finding a place to volunteer in your area: Let your favorite local charity know about this promotion! Be sure you can explain to them how to register, and then volunteer for them when they post their opportunities!

You are supposed to register before completing any project. We signed up for the assignment before doing the blankets. What if they decided that they had enough blankets before they received yours? I understand that each organization only has so many slots, so signing up would be the way to go. During the sign up, they ask for more information than goes on the sheet that goes with the blankets. Also, don't forget the pictures of you working on it. We sent ours off today!:cool1:

Does anyone have any advice for the following situation:

I found a volunteer opportunity for MLK Jr. Day cleaning up a local skate park. I contacted the organizer and got my family registered (2 adults, 2 children ages 9 & 6). I then tried to register us through the Hands on Network. Turns out that the website said the minimum age is 13. The website would not allow me to register my children because they are under this age requirement.

I emailed the organizer again and she said she has no idea why the minimum age is 13. They will actually allow children as young as 2 to participate.

I couldn't find any contact information so I went to the Hands on Network main site and found the following address:

info@handsonnetwork.org

I sent an email outlining the problem and asking for help. That was on Tuesday and I haven't heard anything back. Our volunteer day is coming up and I'd like to get this settled before that date.

Does anyone have any advice on who else I could/should be contacting?

Thanks.

I have now tried calling the hands on network direct (they pawned me off on Disney) and I have called Disney but didn't get an answer (someone was "checking into it"). I have emailed Disney as well.

My family is supposed to be volunteering on Monday, so I'm getting a little nervous. I'm thinking about changing my kids' birthdays in the system so I can get them registered. The organizer knows their age and as I have stated before has agreed that they can volunteer.

My new question is: what sort of identifying information is on the voucher? Do they put the kids' names and birthdays or just names?

May I upgrade my free one day ticket to an Annual Pass or multi-day ticket?

!! UPDATE !! Yes, you may upgrade the free ticket to another ticket type of greater value within the applicable upgrade window. However, you are responsible for the incremental cost and the new ticket may only be used by you. No changes or refunds will be given. The value of the free ticket may not be used to combine or upgrade with a separate single or multi-day ticket.

I want to use the value of the free ticket to upgrade to a premium annual pass. Does anyone know how much of a credit I will get? The current price of the premium annual pass is $429. Is the value of the free ticket the same as a one day one park ticket, $72?

If anyone can grab a photo of the ear hat figurine (or the fastpass) that would be much appreciated!

To poster above me, yes its worth $72 towards a hopper or AP.

If you have a voucher, are you guaranteed a ticket when you go later in the year? I see the tickets are limited so hopefully they only give out as many vouchers as there are tickets for. ???
