Hi Pat! and everyone..
Still wavering on the dates...with or w/o child? I am trying to be patient and wait for october?? whenver..the date seems to change. I'm sure it'll be posted so I'll know the itin then. Hope we can all meet up again.

Steph,

I don't think I could enjoy myself on a Disney cruise with my kids stuck at home. It would feel weird to me. They just love the cruise too much!! I wouldn't sweat it too much until the details come out. Then you can decide what to do. The itinerary and pricing I'm sure will help you decide.

J

Steph,
I agree with Jodie. You'd spend the whole cruise thinking about how much fun Tay'd be having if she were with you.

We want to do ABD to China in 2010, but depending upon where I'm stationed I may not be allowed to travel to China. So I'm definitely going to book one of these itineraries. Maybe the TA back since we've never done one of those. Pluse when you travel Westbound you get the extra hours from the time change! :goodvibes

Disney cruise ship to get Fantasia-themed splash pool, LCD TVs
posted by Jason Garcia on Sep 4, 2008 3:28:44 PM

The Disney Magic cruise ship will get a splash pool themed around the movie "Fantasia," new 22-inch, LCD television sets in cabins and a series of other upgrades during a nearly three-week stay in dry dock later this month.

Disney says the 385-square-foot "Mickey's Splash Zone" will be added onto the Mickey Pool on the ship's deck nine. Themed around the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment in Fantasia, it will feature star- and moon-shaped fountains and splash zones (including, Disney says, an area for "children not yet toilet trained and in swim diapers").

The new televisions, meanwhile, will be mounted on swivel arms so they can be watched from different spots in a stateroom.

Other upgrades to the 2,700-passenger Magic, according to a release Disney issued earlier this week, will include new waterfalls from a pair of hot tubs in the pool at the adult-oriented "Quiet Cove;" plush new chairs at the nearby "Cove Cafe;" and new registration areas to allow "radio frequency identification" at the kid-focused "Oceaneer Club" and "Oceaneer Lab" that will ultimately allow children to check in and out by tapping a sensor with with tag-embedded wristbands.

Disney also plans to apply a new hull coating during the dry dock in Norfolk, Va., that is designed to reduce surface resistance in the water and improve fuel efficiency.

It is rumored, that the 2010 cruises will be 4% higher than the last set of Med cruises... :rolleyes1 :confused3

Hi

could be

because

the gas/petrol go up more dear/expensive nowaday

as it is dark day in UK now as stock market was terrible this week.

My bank went busted?? Halifax Bank of Scotland joined with TSB Lloyd

three Airlines had been busted, Gatwick Airport is selling. Lots of people lost thier jobs.

That why I called it DARK DAY.

I think it might be up and more expensive I don't know

I have to cancel our cruise for next year as we cannot afford it:sad2: so we move it to 2010.

I hope something come up better in some days who know:confused3 :rolleyes1 :sad1:

Question

Why is it assumed that the ship used would be the Magic and not the Wonder? :confused3

When Steph found the original date of a berth in Copenhagen for a few weeks in 2010, it was the Disney Magic named. However, I guess Disney could sent the Wonder.

David

I doubt they'd take the Wonder over for a summer itinerary, since they don't have an Ocean Quest for the Tweens. On the Med cruises on the Magic there were kids everywhere. I can't imagine what it'd be like if they had less space dedicated to them!

Plus it's only recently that the Wonder crew has been trained on doing 7 day itineraries. The Magic is better equipped to do the longer cruises for now (more shows, more dinner menus, more activities etc).

The cost brings up a good question...in this day and age when gas prices are higher but there is more unemployment, people losing their houses etc...what will the price of this cruise be? Disney is not known for discounting to fill the ship as other cruise lines are...it'll be interesting to see what they come up with....when is october again? hee hee

I don't think they often have to discount to fill the ship simply since its Disney and the cruises sell well. HOWEVER, we have seen them discount to fill the ship before. Better to make some money than none at all. I wonder where that 4% increase rumor originated from? I'm anxious for the details as well!!

There are a lot of people in the USA how can afford the cruises and also a lot more people in Europe who can afford to cruise do cruise and would love to try DCL.

With very limited Baltic cruises they will sell quickly (maybe not a quick as the REPO's but quickly), and I do not think there will be discounts until maybe PIF date, when there is a chance if people book a speculative cruise then cancel, just before pay up time as they cannot raise the airfare or pay the cost of shore trips.

Then you might see Cat 12s open up as a back door discount only.

The transatlantic are a different thing they were discounted in 2007, and offers on 3/4th person in the room, free tips etc.

If the transatlantic remain the same as 2007, ( I think there will be changes) then there could be discounts.

It'll be interesting to see if Disney follows thru on the plans for the Baltic. With recent economy issues and such. It might be wiser to do something closer to home. Our family would love to do the Baltic but airfare x4, would be a huge issue combined with a price increase, even with having the OB 10% factored in.

Andrew, do you remember WHEN the TA discounts were offered? Was it up front? or later when they had difficulty filling the ship? When was the 3rd/4th person free offered - up front? I don't remember this at all since we had no interest in the TAs back then.

No it wasn't upfront, they 'sold' these at normal prices for a long time,

I think it was

  • On sale 3RD April 2006.
  • No Discounts to about Christmas.
  • People on DCL ships offered FREE TIPS on cruises about December 2006.
  • 3/4 person offers came in Quarter 1/2007, ie January to April.

If considering the TA REPOS, I suggest book on release, then if and only if they offer discounts later, cancel and rebook. But I think they will 'spice' these cruises up with something to make them more attractive.

This was only offered on the May Eastbound T/A Repo. The discounted Cat. 12 GTYS was offered for August Westbound T/A Repo and a number the Med cruises.

Thats what we were planning on doing. Actually we'll probably book the WB TA and one of the other itineraries as well until we can figure out what we want to do and how much $$ we'll have.

Was it free tips AND a 3rd/4th person free? Was it either 3rd OR 4th person free or 3rd AND 4th person free? I do remember seeing a very deep cat 12 discount on the EB TA. People were sailing for next to nothing.

I was lumping the REPOS together and NOT being cruise specific, I didnt think I need to go into that amount of detail.

See the other post above, but usually is one offer at a time and not a combination.

3/4 person was not free to my knowledge it was at a low fixed price.
