2010 news from the Magic

Now THAT is an international cruise I'd do. I wasn't much for the idea of the Med cruise when it was offered, mainly because I'm not sure how much my young children would have been able to do. But I wish we had looked further into the transatlantic. A Baltic might interest me, as well. It's just that FLIGHT....how do you keep young ones entertained that long??!!

My kids were 7 and 10 last summer when we went. They're generally pretty mellow, so they just read and colored. My oldest played his game boy. Then they went to sleep - got about 4 hours of sleep on the flight over. They actually did much better than I did - couldn't sleep a wink! I was shocked at how well they did the next day. The plan was to stay awake all day long. They were bouncing off the walls, and my dh and I were the ones dragging.

I noticed that there are direct flights to London from Dulles, a few of which leave in the morning, so you don't have the overnight flight. Think I'd prefer that option. Its the price that kills me!

Does anyone know if it is all 2010 iteneraries coming out in October or just the special ones?

I am actually pretty excited, as I was planning on not knowing anything till December.

Which port was your favorite? I have a friend who lived in Norway for a couple years - Bergen I think. She loved it!

Where is Talinn?

You know, spending a week in London and then doing a trans Atlantic back home sounds quite nice!!

Jodie

As mentioned, Talinn is in Estonia, and it's a very cute town. I loved all of the ports, but 2 days in St. Petersburg, Russia with a private tour was the highlight.

I'll spend a week somewhere in Europe a year from now, before a 14-night Transatlantic cruise on Celebrity Constellation. That cruise also departs from Harwich, England. I LOVE that TA itinerary - with 2 stops in France, 2 in Ireland, 1 in Scotland, 1 in Iceland, and 2 in Canada. :yay:

We flew Barcelona to Atlanta with a 6yo boy and he did fine. Headphones with Nintendo DS and IPod filled with movies and cartoons.

My eldest DD was 11 when she and I did the Trans-Atlantic Repo in Aug. 07. She did really well on the flight, played her gameboy, listened to her Ipod, read and watched the inflight movies. I slept off and on. We had to change planes in Munich and she finally slept for the 2hr flight to Barcelona.

Now, if DCL goes back to Europe in 2010, DH and I will take all 3 girls who will be 14, 9 & 7 at that time. There are alot of direct flights to London from Chicago but like posted above, the prices will probably be shocking.:scared1:

I was looking at some summer 09 pricing to get an idea. I found a few for under $1000 from Dulles - the cheapest being $933. Of course who knows where pricing will be in 2010. And more importantly, WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE THE SHIPS GOING YET!! Hard not to get caught up in the excitement though. Its fun to look.

It's so attractive, it sold out more than a year in advance! I booked it shortly after it was announced in March. Then the price just kept going up - kind of like some Disney cruises!

SD to disneyland is the same as PC to Orlando. Maybe they can more easily build their own terminal in SD than LA.
While I'm no expert on the port here, I can tell you it's small and is shared with the Navy. (Aircraft carriers USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan come in and out of port here as well as may other Naval vessels.) I'm not sure there is any room to build a terminal and there sure isn't any parking as the port is right next to downtown.

A friend did the transatlantic to the Med last time with her 3 DDs (7th gr, 6th gr and 3 yrs old) and all had a fabulous time - well, except for the 20 foot wave part.

Captain Tom said 'ALL' in October, later that date was confirmed as October 7th, for preview.

I know it is exciting wondering what the special itinerary will be!!

If there are more Trans-Atlantic cruises, I would love to do one again. I absolutely loved the 6 straight sea days. I know it will have to be just me and my DDs because DH has no interest and it would be impossible to get him to take two weeks off in a row.

I feel for you - but in some ways it is nice that it won't be a problem for us this time. Living in the UK we have recently been lucky with our £ to $ exchange rate but the flights have always been expensive for us at the time we travel (have to go in school summer breaks as we are teachers) Back in 2004 a direct flight from London to Orlando cost us £675 which worked out around $1000 each so a trip to WDW is for us something which happens once every 4 or 5 years and takes a lot of saving to just get us there let alone the accommodation and tickets.

I have booked our holiday today for August 2009 - 10th - 27th Aug we have 5 days in Orlando anf then the Tortola cruise in the middle and five days back in Orlando post cruise - the ONLY way we will do anything Disney in 2010 is if DCL come to us!

:sad2: I hope the new itineraries won't make me regret my 2009 Tortola cruise next year!!

We have a Sept. 2009 Tortola cruise booked in the Roy Suite and I will transfer that booking in a hot minute if the 2010 itinerary is more exciting.

£ has gone down 12% against the dollar in the last three weeks, I am glad I paid off my 2009 Tortola cruise in full, it might be cheaper to use a cruiselline who charges in £ rather than dollars now to go to the Baltic.

If it's Alaska(which is what I want- but don't think it will be) I will switch, if its a Med cruise, I wouldn't change it though. My DH has been to alot of the countries, when he was in the Navy, and I would love to go, but would like my DD5 to be a little older. I don't know if I would change it for any other port.:confused3 We'll see!!:goodvibes

So slum it like the rest of us and go on both cruises!! :)

Not sure if this has been said yet - I live here in Cali - and I have a feeling that DCL will do summers in Alaska (June - Aug) and then the other months doing Mexico. Start doing land and sea tours out here too. The NCL Star (my 2nd fav ship) does the Alaska for 3-4 months and then Mexico the rest... they sail out of San Pedro. The Alaska usually sails out of Seattle with one stop in Vancouver (for the "obligatory" stop) for workers. A short "Pacific Coastal" repo gets it to and from.

I see this coming with a new ship. It is many of our hopes out here that we get a ship full time out here. I could easily whisk down for a 3-4 day weekend... though it is just a tease.... I will be keeping my eye out for repo's though! Missed the WB - was booked - but darned teenagers school got in the way!!

We have a 2009 St. Croix booked that we plan on transferring to a 2010 special cruise if it's a better itinerary. ;)
