My friend was excited to get UsAir PHL/MCO $79 each way
Then reality checked in when he had two bags each way at $60 now each ticket is over $300 RT
He is ok with it, just won't be tricked again

I'm so jealous by all the cheap airfare!! I just booked ours this morning...family of 3 direct from KC to Orlando, $925 total on SWA!! $308 each, yikes! The price was only going up, so I booked now and I'll watch for them to drop. But honestly, the best we could do on other airlines was upwards of $700, with layovers, not as good of flight times, and then add in all the fees for luggage for a family of 4 and the price disparity wasn't as big and not nearly as convenient.

We seem to be one of the crazy few who drive. We drive straight through from Central Iowa to Orlando, takes us about 21 to 22 hours, with 6 of us it is extrmemly cheaper than flying. I know it's not for everyone but with movies, Ipods, and phones it's not like it used to be!!

SWA just doesn't have good deals to Orlando from the West Coast. I used to watch the Dings, too, but they were few and far between.

For our September trip I really lucked out with non-stop flights (7 am arrival at MCO, 6:30 pm departure ) from Seattle to Orlando for $268 pp incl. tax! We'll add $30 pp RT for the 1st bag charge, but oh well, we would have had to add it anyway.

We usually don't fly non-stop as the price is too steep, but I couldn't pass that one up!

Comparison on Airfare:

Moncton or Fredericton New Brunswick to Orlando, booked 12 weeks before travel:

$694 to Orlando per person changing planes in Toronto or Montreal.

Portland, Maine (four hour drive) to Orlando, booked 12 weeks before travel:

$228 to Orlando per person DIRECT FLIGHT.

For a family of four that's $1864 difference. That's HUGE.

That's the price of a full package for 5 or 6 nights at a value resort.

Well worth the 4 hour drive, especially when you consider the flights from Portand are direct flights, right there you are going to make up some of your driving time if you do not have to change planes, plus saving all that $$$

We usually fly out of Chicago using Southwest since it's cheaper. When we lived in Kentucky, it was a 6 hour drive, but no problem because we're from Chicago so our families are there. We'd drive up a couple days before our trip to spend a little time with them and they'd watch our pets. Living in Florida required a 2 hour drive, so no need to fly. We're in Oklahoma now (yes, we get around ) but will still be flying out of Chicago. My parents will be spoiling our children for the week while we're taking a grown ups trip to Disney (a few months delayed 10th anniversary trip for me & DH...and two close friends who are first timers will be with us).

Just a tidbit about Southwest. If your roundtrip prices are a bit higher than you'd like, try looking at the prices for one way tickets. The prices could be significantly different. I recently booked a flight for my mom to fly down here and help out when baby #2 is born. Roundtrip would have been nearly $400. But when I checked the prices as one way tickets, I was able to get them for a total of about $280. Booking the flight as one way tickets opened up "web only" prices that weren't there for roundtrip. Now this may not always work...but it definitely did in my case so I'm just passing the info along. I'm still looking for good prices for our September trip and will be checking roundtrip AND one way now.

Is everyone planning on upgrading the dining plan if it is only QSDP for the values?

Absolutely! This will be my grand son's first trip and we want to do some character meals.

This is probably a dumb question but can you upgrade to reg dining plan for only a few days of your trip or do you have to upgrade all of them. I ask cause my family would do better at QSD cause we dont like to have to be on a schedule for dining and Id rather not have to pay OOP for tips for TS meals. But I would like ot be able to do 2 character meals....

I believe you would need to do it for your entire trip since the dining plan is based on how many nights you are there. Otherwise you'd probably need to book it as a split stay to have different DPs.

The Jet Blue fares I have been waiting for finally came out and I decided to book rather than wait for a better deal, I paid $244.40 per person round trip, non-stop to Orlando from HPN. We are Happy early morning fight down 6:30am and late night flight home 7:45 which gives us another Disney day

yes it is Westchester...we flew out of JFK last year but have heard HPN being smaller is great to fly out of from people DH works with so we shall see

You're not alone... we drive from N. Indiana to Orlando... however, we can't do the straight thru... we leave at midnight (I am the sole driver, and work 3rd shift so used to being up at night) and stop at almost every rest area (if we don't we end up hurting to much... especially my Mother) and then stop for the night just after Atlanta... usually Macon. We could make it all the way (probably) but its part of the vacation!

We checked into flying this time, but between hidden fees... fear that they might say I am too large and need a 2nd seat... Mom's WC... and the fact that we like having our own transportation (even if we don't use it)... we decided that driving was better for us... even though its just the 2 of us!

For those of you lamenting over airfare, you might be surprised to hear this....

Last month when we booked our Magic Your Way Package online for our September trip, Disney's airfare was cheaper than anything else available! I could not believe it! We have ALWAYS purchased airfare separately, and usually directly with the airline. It's almost to the point where I don't even bother pricing it out with Disney because historically they were considerably more expensive. I'm sure glad we ran the numbers this year - we were able to book roundtrip with AirTran from Milwaukee, WI for $208.60 (not incl bags). It's not the cheapest flights to Orlando that we've ever booked, but I'm happy!

I'd LOVE that!lol We are $171 there, and one ticket is booked at $88 back and the other two are $130 back (I accidentally only put 1 person in when checking last night and noticed I could get the $88 price for 1 person, but not if I put in 2 or 3, so there must have been 1 left at a cheaper price?). I will definitely watch for them to drop! We really don't have any trips scheduled to use the credits for, but I'm sure we could come up with something! Of course, I'm pretty sure they were about $50 cheaper had I booked a few weeks ago, but silly me, wanted to see if they'd come down as I was hoping for around $200 RT/pp. oh well. lesson learned, book SWA as soon as I can!!

I beleive the entire trip.

We have regular dining but 9 nights of adr's is going to be a bit much. Like you there is only 2 or 3 TS meals that are must for us.
So we are thinking of QSDP is offered at the values than we will re-book with that. Then just pay out of pocket for 3 meal. Which would equal out to our tip money for 9 nights. So either way it works out the same $$ wise but we aren't stuck to all the adr's. There are some good choices on the QSDP also.

Have you looked into Virgin America...they have great prices. My DB flies from LA-BOS for $99/way...Only $220 r/t

I wish that would work for me but sadly driving would not be an option for my family of four.......first would be a 12 hour drive across the province, followed by 6 hour ferry ride (also expensive at $350 return) then drive to Maine from North Sydney which may be as long as an 8 hour drive (not sure) and then catch the plane for $228 return per person. I'm exhausted just thinking about it! I think I'd rather stick with the $2500 price tag as much as it hurts. Besides, with the amount of driving we would have to do, that would cut into valuable time at Disney! and we can't have that!
