2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

We're going in December with my parents. My dad is a retiree and he was going to purchase our tickets at our local MWR office. He has no interest in going to Disney World and will instead be fishing etc.

My question is, will he have to go the first day to activate the tickets or does he have to be there at all?

Thanks for the help!

Either he or his spouse will have to go to Disney World and activate the tickets. He doesn't have to actually enter a park with you, but either the military person or the spouse has to be there to activate the tickets. When you get them from MWR (ITT, whatever it is currently calling itself -- LOL!), they are plastic cards that aren't ready to be used for entry and a CM at a Disney ticket window (or at Guest Services in DTD) must activate them. An ID must be shown, and they will ask the names of everyone using the tickets. Once that happens, the tickets are ready to be used. Have a great time!

This JUST in from Shades of Green JULY 13th regarding the promo

We have received another update regarging the Armed Forces Salute tickets:

"Disney “Salute” tickets may only be utilized maximum six per week (this is inclusive of the ticket belonging to the eligible service member).

Qualifying service members are eligible for a total of twelve tickets during the entire length of the promotion (Oct 3, 2010-Sept 30, 2012), BUT utilization will be limited and tracked to insure that no more than six total per week are activated at the Gate.

As always, “Salute” tickets MAY NOT be gifted to non-military third parties. Also, dependents do not qualify as “primary service member”, and will not be allowed to activate tickets without active/retired mother or father present and part of the traveling party (they must enter Theme Parks with the party on the first visit only)."

We will continue to keep you posted with any future updates on the promotion.

Thank you for posting this, this clarifies a lot of gray areas where the tickets are concerned.

Just a note.

As of this posting there has been no change to the internal Disney posted information.

This was just announced through Shades of Green this morning so maybe word is still making its way down? I know doesnt make sense but this is what was posted on their FB page which is legit......

this is what they just posted about spouses:

Shades of Green Resort Eligibility has not changed - the spouse can still buy and activate the tickets. The military sponsor does not have to be present if the spouse is present. Disney was refering to child dependants who are not eligible to buy or activate the tickets without the military parents being present

I purchased Salute tickets for my son and family (5 tickets total) in Feb. 2010 and did not need one for myself because I am an annual pass holder. I now need to purchase one for my other son - just him, as we are going in August. Again, I will not need one because I have the AP. I am confused because when reading the guideline for purchase it says "one of the passes must be purchased for the military I.D. card holder".??? Is this a change? I did not need to buy myself one in 2010. I am the spouse of a retiree and my son is 23.

CocosMeme, that has always been the policy. But you'll find it depends on the castmember working the ticket booth. They seem to have a lot of latitude.

I just heard from one of my readers who already had 6 Salute Tickets, but needed 7. She also had a free 4-day non hopper from her hotel which the castmember converted to a Salute Ticket. The castmember said 'm not supposed to do this but..."

When you go if the first castmember doesn't help you keep trying others.

Thanks, Cheshire! As always, you are the authority on tickets, and those that don't trust you are just missing out - plain and simple!! :)

*cough* He hasn't always been right about the military tickets specificly. *cough* However, any posts that he is proven incorrect in seem to mysteriously disappear...

Perhaps they were removed to avoid any confusion over incorrect information? I would rather see the correct info rather than seeing a message with info, and then reading further down and realizing that the previous info was wrong.

Okay not to be a pain but... Does anyone knows what the week consists of?
Is it Staurday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday?? We are there Sunday the 4th thru Wednesday the 14th and would love to be able to buy 2 sets...It would save us a bunch!!!
I called SOG the oteher day and she said you could buy one set for now and one set for after October 1st but that may have been before the 13th.

The latest update, internally dated July 6, states "• Guests may participate in this offer two (2) separate times during the entire duration of this promotion."

And for a regular, 14 day expiration ticket, if the first use is a Sunday the last use will be the second Saturday following, not the third Sunday.

and just to really over think it.. does each of the two transactions have a limit of 6 per still? or could somebody get 8 the first time and 4 the second?

(please don't whap me with a lime green lanyard if I just made your life more difficult :rolleyes1 )

Uh oh. OK, now I have another question:

If I've only used 2 of my allotted 6 (prior to the program expansion), can I get the 4 I was entitled to before and THEN get another 6 - still using 2 different transactions?

And I thought I read somewhere that we can only have 6 active tickets tied to the service member at one time, meaning the first 6 have to be "used up" before the second 6. Can you confirm this for us, Cheshire?

Hi

We are heading to the world on July 28th and will be purchasing 4 military salute tickets for Me, HdH, DD and DSis. My question is can I buy the watermark upgrade for my sister, if I'm not buying them for the rest of us or do they all have to be the same kind of ticket?

You can buy different ticket options for each person.

I apologize if this has already been asked, but I have a question about adding on the water parks. I know that in past promotions, if you added on the water parks, you could do 5 days in the parks and an additional 5 days at the water parks. Is that still how it works? TIA!
