2009 Discussion-We'll make time fly by!

Well, so far on our trip I have me (31), DD(10), DH(31), MOL(5?), GGma(76), and niece(4). We had a tragedy about a month ago. My SIL (mother to my niece) died in a car accident. So, needless to say this planning has taken a bit of a turn. It seems that everyone still wants to go. It's so painful bringing the trip up though.

I think that I am going to book two seperate rooms in Port Orleans. I am thinking about changing from Riverside to French Quarter because of GGma and it would be less walking for her. But we LOVE POR!!! I'm so torn.... Has anyone had family go and one stay at POR and the other stay at POFQ? That might be an idea.

No way will my inlaws eat enough to make it worth the dining plan. I'm am still trying to justify doing it for us. It is just so much easier.

Thanks to all who explained the passporter. I didn't realize that the Unofficial Guide for 2009 would be out later this month. I think I will preorder both of these books. The passporter sounds like a good idea too.

We got the passporter from our local library and I jotted down any info that I thought I needed...I have been so many times that I just didn't see the need to buy it....but I can see that if you haven't been how it would be very handy for those in need of pointers and tips, all in one neat place.

To answer your question though, POR and POFQ is so close that I don't think it would make much of a difference. It might be nice to be a part for a little bit. You share the buses anyway

Could you give us a little more info? Are you interested in more character meals?

I know a couple of our favorites last year were Whispering Canyon Cafe (dinner) and Crystal Palace (breakfast).

Next year the kids really want to try Sci-Fi and maybe 50's Prime time. I want to try some of the Epcot restaurants.

I guess I'm looking for non-character meals for the older kids. I would put about a 50/50 emphasis on atmosphere (fun) and quality of food. We have been considering Wispering Canyon and 50's Prime Time.

If you are planning on going to DTD, we went to Planet Hollywood on our last trip..my kids are older (12 & 9 when we went last) and they really enjoyed themselves..but they also really enjoyed Crystal Palace for dinner and have requested to go back. We've been considering Whispering Canyon also, any feedback would be great.

I called and got quotes on the package. Our dates are not firm, so I haven't booked yet. Thinking about booking soon and changing the dates if the need arises.

I'd say you probably have a 50/50 chance of swimming. I've never been to Florida in Feb, but I've been there in December and April and some days were warm and others were chilly. I'm sure the pools are heated, it's just getting out that would be cold. I've never been to Disney in Feb. so I'm not sure about the crowd levels.

We usually go end of JAN/beginning of FEB. It's usually cold enough at night to need coats. Early mornings are cool (light jacket/long sleeves), but by 10am, we usually don't need the jackets anymore. In 2008, we went in late JAN, and it was hot---definitely could have gone into the swimming pool. Weather that time of year is a bit unpredictable. I'd say usually in upper 60s/
lower 70s during the day, and down into the 40s/sometimes upper 30s at night.

Crowds---the last 2 years we went it was crowded---nothing like Christmas/holiday times, mind you, but definitely not the practically empty parks we had previously. There were a large number of tour groups from South America when we were there this year.

I'm not sure when February hours will be out, but I certainly would expect that it would be soon - since the 6 mo. mark is here.

My DH took my daughters this past February - It was probably the third week. We had AWESOME weather - the girls swam every day. It was cool in the morning and at night (sweatshirts required), but it warmed up nicely. I heard, though, that it had been real cold the week before we were there, though. I think it's hit or miss. But we don't like it too hot anyways, so it was perfect for us!

No kidding on that note! I live in Guelph (as mentioned way over there <~~) -- about 1.5 hours north of you so i know that the break in the weather is a relief some years!

just an fyi... i noticed on disney's official website they list "feb 09" in the calendar section, but the hours are not yet posted. I'm thinking they'll post them sometime soon, since they have added the "feb 09" option to the dropdown list on the calendar.

Whoever sees the calendar is up first, please post here to let the rest of us know!!! I can't wait to start real planning!!!

Thank you...we went in August last year and almost died from the heat...I am from Ontario, Canada so in February it is freezing and would be a nice change...

That's what happened to us this past Jan. It was -14 windchiil and temp below zero here in WI when we left for Disney. We went Jan 24-Feb 2nd, it was 60's and cool for a few days, and the rest 70's and 80's and we went swimming. But people were cranky it was 60's and that they had to wear a light spring jacket.... we were in HEAVEN, because after leaving -14 windchill, it felt warm to us!!!
