2008 DDP so far for servers

How uncomfortable do you think this makes guests? ( servers informing guests to add their tips) I tip above average...even Dis average...but wouldn't like a CM reminding me to add a tip. This is tacky.....plain and simple.

we are a family of 4, 2 adult DP 1 child DP, 1 infant. When we get the bill can we just add the amount for the tip and give our room card which has charging privledges so all out DP credits and additional items ordered and tip can be chagred or credited at the same time on one room card

The way the Disney computer people have set it up, you have to enter the non-cash tip at the time we swipe your resort ID to use the DDP credits. If we do not enter a tip, we cannot charge a tip - the check is closed out.

Hello Dizserver, if you don't mind I want to know the process for paying tips on DDP for a party of six. I understand that 18% is automatically added to the bill. Say we consume $200 value of food, and I assume the total amount will be $200 + 36 (18% tips) = $236.

Do we first get a bill of $236, and then we pass on the Resort ID, and get a 2nd bill of $36?

I am confused because - since the 18% is mandatory, if I simply give my Resort Key to the server, will the tips be automatically charged to my room?

Since my party is from two rooms - is it possible to settle the bill with TS, and pay server directly with the tips?

We just came back after using the DDP for 7 days. It was really easy on our end - we made it easy on the servers after our first meal and just stopped them before they had to talk about the tip - we got a lot of smiles after that one - lol!

The computer system did have a glitch on our 3rd night. We ate dinner, put a tip on our room key, and we never got charged for the meal (credits or tip). I talked to three people at our resort consierge and one at the actual restaurant. All apologized and said it was Disney's mistake - use the credits again as there was no sign of the meal anywhere in the system (I made them put it in writing so we wouldn't get hit later). I also sent a cash tip to our server at the restaurant - she was nice, and I didn't want her to get stiffed. I would guess a lot of people benefited that night.

Angelkk,

I think from everything I've read your bill will come the first time with the total amount for the meal and the tip already included in your total. I would assume the waiter will ask if you are charging to the tip to your room.

And I can't believe one poster said "she couldn't understand what was so hard to understand about this system"! It's crazy and very awkward for guiests and probably makes for some grouchy servers! I hope the folks at Disney are reading these posts and decide to add the tips back into the program. That would make it so much easier and less confusing for everyone involved. Of course, I'm sure if that happens it will be after my trip since I always seem to get in on things at the wrong time!

I happen to agree with that poster.:confused3

It has been explained over and over again. The whole thing sounds very simple and easy to use.

Not quite seeing what is so difficult now that it has been explained--and if you don't frequent the DIS boards after your first experience I'd think you'd have it figured out. If I were using the DDP I would just tell the server they need not explain the tiping system to me since I am aware of it and then just write cash on the line or hand over my CC as soon as the bill was brought and I looked it over. One less thing to take up time after I have eaten.

I am not a server, but what you would do is have them split the check out for the number in each room so your credits don't get mixed up then each room would have the automatic 18% of what they ordered on the reciept. NO one pays for anyone elses that way and you can easily keep it straight. Thoughthe tip was included when we went as a larger party split into three checks it was never a problem and we each got to leave whatever additional we wanted based on how big a pain we were LOL--my sister had two kids under three--it was a bit of a bugger!

What server wouldnt prefer cash? They restaurant will only report 8% to the IRS letting the server net x% under the table (This goes for restaurants everywhere, not just disney)

Hey I didnt make that rule.........

Restaurants report what the server reports was made in cash tips. The server is to report exactly what was made, whether it is 5 % or 25 % of sales. IRS may questain a restaurant if less than 8 % is reported.

I have another question about the six person party automatic gratuity. We'll be a party of four adults, one child and one infant. We are physically a party of six, but, obviously, our infant is not on the DDP. Will we be considered a party of six? Thanks!

Yes, disney counts heads. It doesn't matter someone's age, if they ate or anything else. If there is a head at the table, they get counted.

When I present the check for those on the DDP, I just say, I need you to fill out the bottom of this receipt and then I will take your card and bring you the receipt to sign. If they have any questions or are tipping in cash, the guest usually says so at this point. We've had a couple of "situations" at my restaurant but I don't think its as bad as we thought it would be. I did get stiffed on a $190 check last night and the guest told me to my face that he was not tipping because he didn't have any cash but I did a great job but thats a whole other story. :confused3

That's a pathetic excuse. He could have billed it to the room, or he could have used a credit card. He's just cheap. Hopefully most of your customers belong in nice restaurants.
