When we made our Jan 2008 reservations (via rented points, Thanks Don:thumbsup2 ) we were unable to add the DDP because they said the rates for 2008 had not been released yet. Does anybody know when the rates are coming out? Has anybody been able to add the DDP for 2008 yet? Updates are appreciated.:surfweb:

Funny, I was just asking a very similar question for friends of ours over on the DDP board:

bicker seems to remember the rates coming out possibly around June.

I don't know why this would matter since you don't even pay for the DDP until check in.

Thanks for the info! I'll keep an eye out. Any idea where to look for the price? I have never seen anything on the Disney website regarding what the price is for the DDP by itself. I'm sure Mary will post it over at mousesavers.com when she finds out so I guess I'll keep my eyes open over there.:surfweb:

Other than whether the plan will even be in place for 2008.

That would put a HUGE damper on our vacations and really DVC, for us anyways. It is a nice perk.
That's a shame because Disney has a habit of these type of plans coming and going. Frankly there have been better plans in the past and there are other options. From a sheer cost standpoint many can do better with those other options. Here are some of the options as I see them.
  • Eat in a lot. There are kitchens even somewaht in the studio.
  • Plan to use the discounts afforded to DVC.
  • Get an AP and add those discounts to the DVC discount options.
  • Get an AP and then buy the DDE for larger and a wider variety of discounts.
  • Chose your restaurant choices accordingly.
ALL take planning but I'd say the amount of planning is actually less with all of the others than with DDP though i guess it depends on what types of planning you are comfortable with and what types you are not. Frankly for the two of us I can have 2 sit down meals with tax and tip for the price of the DDP, I've done it a number of times and come out ahead in dollars. That doesn't mean We'd order the lobster or get an appy and a dessert routinely, we wouldn't. My wife has forbid us to get the DDP again, just too much food even when we were able to pay for others meals to reduce our credits the last time. She sees things in black and white such as when she said "why do we own timeshares in Aruba if we never go there" not even thinking we'd traded those Aruba weeks for HI, DVC, Charleston, etc getting things worth 2-4 times what we gave up most times. But for a shorter trip it still may make sense for us.

We use Dean's plan as quoted above...

AP w/ DDE - We have reduced our dinning costs since the inception of this combo, DDE for AP holders instead of just FL residents, as we have always gotten AP's (2-3 trips annually) and frequent numerous restaurants while vacationing. Luckily for us all of our old favorite retaurants and some of our new favorites (thanks to DDE) are included so this fits our needs perfectly... and the discount applies towards alcohol !!!

* If only we could convince them to add a couple restaurants from the "dark side" - Emeril's and Mytho's (Mytho's is THE best kept secret in all of Orlando).

That's precisely what we'll be doing this year...using the DDE card rather than buying DDP.

I don't think, though, that DDP "fans" really have to worry about Disney cancelling the program for next year. I suppose it's a possibility....anything is...but I don't think it's very likely.

Several others have said its too much food. In my mind that is a good thing. You get your moneys worth!!! I could not do the multiple sit downs in a day but the snack counter dinner plan works out well as I can get the big ticket items at dinner that cover most of the cost of the day. Still I think a couple days on the ddp and couple of days on packed in grocery items would balance it all out. Just gotta not be tempted by those side buys of chocolate covered strawberries and sugar sticks.....mmmmm chocolate.

Love the DDP but in Oct not using it only my DDE card that week. With the plan last year could only do F&W once, too full and didn't want to lose credits. This year only using the DDE card plan on doing the F&W more offen.
