2008 DDP discussion, questions, rants and vents

We're just going to have to wait for the passage of time to reveal its mysteries.

Yesterday we were told anything under $4 can be used as a snak credit.

This is definitely wrong, but is still being mistakenly told to patrons at some locations. I had to explain to several cashiers at the Contemporary stores that they were incorrect as the plan has changed. They didn't believe me until they tried to ring up a bag of Goofy's candy and when it didn't work, they called over a high-level manager. That manager told me I was eligible for the snacks available under the 2007 plan (we checked in in 2007), but when scanning my card did not allow the purchase, he could not override the system.

There is now a specific (rather narrow) "list" of eligible "single serve" items, most of which have prices less than $2. (A cashier at the Poly showed me the list.) Other than the soda, small bags of nuts and ice cream, most items seemed to be $1.50 or less. The list includes the single serve bottles of soda, single cookie, single candy bar, etc. Many small items are not included on the plan. A small box of mints is not included ("not single serve"), but I was offered a 79 cent bag of pretzels instead so I didn't "waste my credit" (thanks, but no thanks - Disney can keep the stale pretzels!). The rice krispie treats are still eligible (yuk!), too. I was able to get a Mickey ice cream sandwich, but did not try anything else at the parks after Jan 1.

Interesting! Since you were at the Poly - did that list include their pastries at Captain Cook's? also the Dole Whips? I'm dying to know about the Whips and their chocolate chip crossaints!!

ETA: Oops, sorry, forgot to quote -the above question was for kdzgon! Thanks!

where can we find an official 2008 snack list as it appears there are many things not included from previous years.

This sucks ! The ddp is nowhere near as good a deal as it used to be!Anyone know if desserts at Norway are still considered single serve? Are they still displaying the signs for what is a s.c.?

The official public list is in the 2008 brochure, but there are a lot of items that qualify that are not on the official public list.

The only official snacks included in the DP are listed on the 2008 brochure. The list I started 1 1/2 years ago was solely based on feedback from everyone on the DIS. I'm not sure what to do with the old snack sticky. Does everyone think I should delete the obvious items that I do not expect to be included anymore? or wait a bit.

How about starting a new 2008 one!!

What a great idea!!! But I think it needs to wait a good month for all the kinks to get worked out of the plan. It sounds like there is still alot of confusion from CM as to whats on it and not.

Each year, during late August and September, the heart of hurricane season, WDW traditionally has had its lowest crowds of the year. To attract guests, Disney offers "free" dining plan -- it's really just a cute way of providing a discount to fill rooms. The discount isn't really all that much different than the percentage-off discounts they'd offer in the past.

Unless....you have a family of 5....two parents, and three children 17, 14, and 7. Which makes the cost of the dining plan and the cost of the room at POR almost equilavent. ;)

But I agree that "free dining" is not such an awesome deal for couples without children and couples with small children. Room-only discounts might be a better deal in those cases.
