2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

I could not conquer W5 D2 today.

I got through the first 8 minute run with no problem, my legs felt pretty good. The 2nd 8 minute run I just lost steam at about 5 minutes and had to walk the rest. Dang. I guess I'll be redoing it on Monday.

I am with ya here. I "beat" W5D2, but failed pretty miserably at day 3. Then life caught up with me and I have not run in two weeks. This afternoon I am going for W5D1 again before I jump right in to two miles straight again!

I was originally going to take it slowly for the last few weeks of the program, but then I looked at the date. My first week long trip begins on June 28 and I would really like to be able to just go out for a run a few days of the trip. Run 15 minutes one way and 15 minutes back and call it a good exercise day without having to worry about stopping and timing or worse yet, pushing myself too hard and getting winded or injured. I hope to get to 30 minutes by early June, so I can get a routine down before the trip, that my body just wont let me debunk.

Hi guys. I'm Toni. I started C25K today. Just got home. I ran for as long as I could, but I rarely was able to run for the full 60 seconds. This seems insurmountable right now, but I will try again on Monday, hopefully doing a little better each time.

I would love to be able to conquer the TOT 13K by October, but as a true couch potato who never ran before in my life, I don't know if that is a realistic goal.
You can do it! I'm someone who has never run either and I'm registered for the Half in January. You can achieve that goal! I am on Week 5 and have done each week twice. I look back and remember when W2 was so hard for me but now I'm running 8 minutes at a time! You can do this! Each week you'll do a little more, and a little more and it will get a little easier. Just stick with it and keep moving!

Raen--How did it go getting back in the swing of things? W5D3 seems like a huge jump from D2!

Zoesmama--Good for you for getting to the gym and attacking W1!

Jacobsmommy--Way to go! And yes I often feel like I'm about to die out there! LOL! Especially when you are just trying to make it the end of your time!

Madi-- Good job! Are you using Robert's C25K podcasts? I use them too and love them. He has such a soothing, encouraging voice!

As for me, I went out to face my demon today, W5D2. And this time, I was the winner! YAHOO! I was dragging myself that last 8 minutes, right at around the 5 minute mark I started to think again that I had to stop but I pushed and pushed and I bet I looked like I was going to fall over but I didn't stop running and I did it. And I am so glad I did! :rotfl:

I get so inspired when I check in here!!! Thanks guys (gals). I did w3d2 today and my legs are killing me. Did w3d1 on Sunday evening, so thought I'd be fine to to day two today. I am dragging!!!! Hoping by Thursday I will be ok to do day three!

Keep up the good work!

Well, I redid W5D1 after a two week break, and I warn everyone don't take a two week break! It was not easy and today I am sore in my core (skipped pilates the last two weeks as well). It is a good sore though, and I am confident I can do W5D2 tomorrow, but as for friday....

I have no idea how to survive two miles. I am actually thinking of running a mile, walking a lap, then running another mile on Friday, since going from a mile and a half with a huge break in the middle to 2 miles straight is a huge leap for me!

As for the group that is still in the early weeks, take heart, it does get easier. Weeks 1 and 2 were easy for me. Come week three I thought the three minute runs would kill me and I nearly gave up since I would never be able to complete the program. I plan on looking back at this week next month and finding my inability to run two miles laughable. That is the great thing about this program. You can honestly look back and see just how far you have come!

Hi all! I really want to join in here. Which couch to 5K program do you guys follow? I googled couch to 5K and a LOT of links came up! Do you think we could put the link to the program in the first post of this thread? I'm kind of scared to start running, but I need to do something. I think if anyone can help me get motivated it is some DIS buddies! Thanks!

Not to toot my own horn (:woohoo: :yay: :woohoo: ) but, I am SO proud of myself. I missed running the last three days. I should have done the final run of week 2 today. But, I decided for the heck of it, I would try W3D1 and see how it went. My plan was to stop and do W2D3 if I felt I couldn't handle it, and I wouldn't beat myself up about it. Well, I did W3D1!!!!!! I can't believe it. I ran three straight minutes! Who knew:confused3 It was challenging, but not unbearable, and I feel so good now.:goodvibes

Congratulations!

JacobsMommy: Way to go! That is great and the feeling of accomplishment after is the best!

Labdogs: So did you get out there? How did it go?

Me? Well it was the day for W5D3 which jumps to 20 minutes straight of running (W5D2 is two 8 min runs and a 5 min walk). So I tried my best and didn't make 20 minutes BUT I did make 15 straight of running, 1.2 miles. I have NEVER in my life run a mile without stopping, never! So this was a huge accomplisment for me today and I am psyched!

I think you did a fabulous job! I did W3D2 today. I am pretty nervous about week 5, but we just do the best we can!

I finished week three yesteday and 'peeked' ahead to next week, oh my goodness, five minutes of running!!!! How am I going to do that? I will probably redo day three from this week tomorrow, so I dont' have too many non run days in a row. Congrats to everyone that is sticking to this. You are doing so much better!

I'm back to week 1 day 1 :guilty: :sad2: I'm having a struggle to wake up and go before my daughter wakes up. I started getting on a later bedtime and its not working to get up so I have to get back on sleep schedule that allows me to get up.

I'm doing pilates tonight my goal is to get to doing that dvd 3 days a week, Tues/Thurs/Sat. C25K will be mon, wed fri with strength training on mon and fri to start. And I'm going to try to fill the other days in with light cardio. I want to be active, I like the feeling right after a workout. I don't know why I procrastinate on working out. Its hard to hit the gym when I can't take my daughter right now(finances don't allow it) and I struggle with getting to a video but maybe when I get the pilates going more. I was shocked by the amount I could do last week on the video.

Anyway I'm going to get to running again someday. :thumbsup2

Way to go Jacobsmommy:thumbsup2 :cool1:

Any room for one more? :)

Just started the C25K program yesterday. Been back on the TM for a few weeks now, but my knee has been acting up, and I really think I was pushing myself too much too soon. (knee problems sidelined me from running 5 years ago, took a week off, and it turned into 5 years...sigh.. ) So I decided to get a solid slow base and see if the knee likes that more. I really really really want to get back into running, and just hoping my knee can keep up with my desires.

Been thinking about getting a Yoga DVD on my off days to help keep limber. Now to just find the determination to keep at this! I have my eyes set on the Princess in March, with a 5K here and there along the way. I have never run in a race, and excited to think about how much healthier I will be if I can stick to this.

It sure is scary getting started, it's great to find WISH and this thread to help calm the fears.

Oooh, I did get out there and it wasn't pretty. I did mange to do the first few runs, but then I petered out. I did manage to at least walk briskly for the whole 20 minutes, but I didn't do all of the running and I still ached big time afterward. I guess I need a program to prepare me for the program! I did try to do the running outside which might not have been the best option. Maybe I should have tried a treadmill instead. Between the uneven terrain and running on concrete, I think my body took a bit of a pounding. I'm glad I tried it, but I think I'm going to need to ramp up to it a little slower. Heck, even just walking for 20 minutes is a good step in the right direction for me! Thanks for checking up on me!

Labdogs: Every step helps and counts! Just getting out there and moving is good!

Welcome Rozzie, :welcome: always room for more! Most of us posting lately are fairly new ourselves and just plugging along! The more the merrier! Love your greyhound pic, so cute!

Zoesmama Pilates is a good thing to be doing, so good for your core. It is hard to get out there and work out. I heard once it takes 21 days of doing something for it to become a habit. It is just easy to say "I'll skip today" or "I'll do extra next time" and then before you know it weeks have gone by and you haven't done whatever it is you origially wanted to do. I think setting small, attainable goals is a good thing. That way you can achieve them and feel good and take on more. It is easier to keep going with something when you are feeling successful and not discouraged. Keep at it!

Good job! How will you do 5 minutes of running? Same way you did 3 minutes, just one step at a time. You CAN do it!

I just got in, did 1.7 miles, 26 minutes. I am still working on W5D3 which is 20 minutes of running. Tonight I did 16.36 minutes of straight running, a little more than Friday so I am getting closer to that magic number of 20!

Allyson

Labdogs: Great job! You got out there, and that is what matters most. Personally, I find the treadmill WAY harder. I think because its harder to adjust my speed.

Welcome Rozzie, Welcome aboard!

Zoesmama I tried pilates yesterday and it about killed me, but I think it is totally worthwhile!

pjstephens I agree with Allyson, you can do it!

AllysonYou are doing awesome!

I did W3D3 today. I did it on the treadmill at my inlaws. We went over for Mother's day, and I knew I wouldn't do it after I had a few glasses of wine...so I did it first. Big accomplishment for me!

Thanks for the support. Well I did it, did w4d1 (running for five minutes was so overwhelming) but once I did it, it wasn't so bad. So overall, the entire workout we ran 16 minutes of. Not at once of course, but WOW, I'm impressed I was still standing at the end. We slowed our run time down a little hoping we can last longer.

Great job to everyone that's doing this!!!!

Well, I survived W5D2 again. I really need to get myself back together. I skipped running on Friday and jumped right into D2 yesterday, so it was tough. I made an executive decision to skip W5D3 entirely and go right on to W6D1 tomorrow. It just seems more logical. How can you run two miles straight and then 2 runs later, run a mile, take a walk break and then run another mile? It doesn't make sense. W6D2 is a step DOWN from W5D3. So my plan is... complete W6D1, W6D2, run two miles, run 2.25 miles, then start week 7. We'll see how it goes! :)
