2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

Well, like Kim-wim and Deb I think it is time for me too to move on. I say this because I think the thread needs to concentrate for those who are working towards the 5K goal and support the ups and downs as each person goes through them. I found this to be a great support for me and truly the reason why I have been able to complete the program.

I will check in, but I don't want to distract anyone with my runs when the whole idea is to move towards program completion.

From the bottom of my heart, I know that every new person will be embraced and welcomed like I was. Just remember that 3 of us have done it, and now it is time for the rest of you too!!

Keep the thread going with your posts, it will not only help you but also encourage those who did not think they could do it too :)

I did D3W4 Saturday and completed it. DH had some trouble with W4 this week so while I do feel like I want to go for W5 I am going to repeat W4 with him. He redid W3 with me so its time to return the favor and lord knows it won't hurt!

So tomorrow we'll repeat W4 again.

For all those moving on I do wish you the best in your current endeavors and I know I'll see you around on other boards. Thank you for encouraging newbies like me and being great examples of people who did this!

Ok, if I get this right, I did
W1D1 of C25K this am!!!! I'm just starting out. I was so excited that I actually did day one and lived! I only started to exercise it he past six weeks so I am working on getting healthy and having fun.

Welcome PJ! Glad to see you have survived week one! :thumbsup2 My biggest problem with week one was actually putting aside the time to do it.
Each level possesses its own challenges. I am on week 5 (day 2 to be exact) and I am nervous about it. But that is why we are here to cheer each other on.:cheer2:

Thanks for the welcome. I've only survived day one of week one, but I am on a roll, lol. I think i can do this!!!

OK, I am a newbie here. I am doing WW and trying to get moving on the exercise. I hate running...but I have always wanted to be a runner, if that makes any sense to you (it does in my mind). I am so envious of people who run. So, starting tomorrow after work, I will be doing W1D1. I know I can do this if I follow the program.

Welcome to the new folks! You CAN do it!

Tomorrow was my run day but I felt like going tonight so I did. I went and watched part of the Boston Marathon today, talk about inspiring! So I did D1W4 again. DH and I are doing W4 again. We have done I think each week twice. It's all good though, we are getting it done!

That is me to a T!:lmao: My new years resolution for the last couple of years was to run an 8 minute mile. I got to 10 minutes last year, but sort of gave up when the holidays hit (we are talking Halloween here, so it has been a while since I have gotten on the treadmill prior to starting C25K). I decided to up the anti on myself with this program and get to 3 8 minute miles! Suicidal...you betcha!:thumbsup2

As for me, I concurred W5D2 with very little issue:woohoo: :woohoo:
I was so concerned about it. My next hurdle is tomorow...two miles straight! UGGGHHH
Even more challenging is the fact that I took my first body pump class this morning. I don't hurt at the moment, but I have that sort of tingle in all my muscles that implies pain is coming :scared:

I did it! I started and did w1d1!!!! Granted, I will NEVER run where I did again. I have never been so traumatized in my life. Keep in mind, I am an OR nurse. Give me a polycystic kidney, dead bowel, necrotizing fasciitis...I can take it. Go have lunch in the middle, come back. It doesn't bother me at all. Well, today I ran on a trail...mainly so no one would see me. I went to WW, sat down, and saw a TICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! I have never been so skeeved out in all my life. So I freak a little, go the the bathroom, strip nekkid, and proceed to check myself for ticks. I shook out all my clothes, etc. I found one crawling on the floor after all this. So, I feel confident they are gone, go back to WW, and the woman next to me has one on her leg, and I find another on my shoe! I totally lost it, ran out of the place. I get to my car, take off my shoes and socks, tie them in a bag.....and freeze. What if there are more in my car? I call my DH, hysterical. I finally man up enough to actually get in the car and drive home. I get home, go in the garage, strip nekkid again, make DH check me for ticks and bolt for the showere, where I proceed to burn my skin with the hottest water possible. I washed my hair five times. OMG, give me a good open fracture any day, but give me a tick, and I lose it!

But...I ran.

Did W4 again today for oh, D5, and it was good. My shins were hurting on the 5 minute-ers but I made it through the whole thing. Whew!

LOL on the Tick, they aren't funny (my dd had lyme disease a few years back from one of the buggers) but the visual of you being freaked out gave me a chuckle this morning! :goodvibes Good for you for conquering W1D1!!!!!!

I'm still running...not progressing as fast as many of you-but I'm still at it. I have added in two swimming days because I missed the pool SO much during the weeks that I was just running. My goal is to get up to 20 minutes of continuous running-and I WILL get there this time. I'm not giving up no matter how long it takes.

I have decided to slow waaaay down on C25K the next few weeks. Yesterday I read an article saying you burn almost double the calories in sports than just consistent running. They compared soccer to just running. They theorized that the constant change in speed during a soccer game is what caused the extra calorie burn, so I am going to try to incorporate that study into my running. Currently the look of my body takes priority over the desire to be able to run a 5k. Mondays I plan on doing C25k, so each C25K week will actually take me 3 real weeks. Wednesdays and Fridays, I will hit "random" on the treadmill, so maybe a lap at 7mph, then one at 4mph and then walk a lap at 3.5, then 2 laps at 6mph.
This should help with the weight loss and hopefully not hinder my 5k goal, just prolong it a few weeks

Wow, you guys are all doing GREAT!! :woohoo: You're all heading in the right direction and training smart! :thumbsup2

Raenstoirm
- 8 minute miles?? :confused3 That's a LOT of pressure to put on yourself! You have a great plan set up and I'm sure you'll see great results. :thumbsup2

Jacobsmommy11002 - CONGRATS on getting started! :cool1: I really think that is the hardest part of this whole deal. You're doing what a lot of people out there are NOT doing. You're taking charge of your life. :thumbsup2 We have all had our ups & downs in the program, but if you stick with it and train smart (listen to your body), you'll do GREAT!

Fitswimmer - Don't worry about what anyone else is doing. You are movin' and groovin' and doing your thing. Adding the swimming back in will only help your endurance with the c25k, so I think that was a GREAT idea! :thumbsup2

MomofCKJ - Look at you....wanting to get running. :goodvibes You've officially got the itch, girl. ;) You're doing great, and I love that you and your husband are doing this together. That's just so helpful to have that kind of support.

pjstevens - Keep up the great work!! You're started!! I look forward to following along with your progress. :)

Well, I survived the first week of the c25k!!!!! yea!!!! I am so impressed with how 'easy' it was. Granted I wasn't saying that when I was jogging the first 60 seconds, lol. But it did get easier and I'm looking forward to week two and increasing the jog time!

Nice job! Good for you for completing W1!

I just came in from W4D6 (we have done each week twice) and I feel good about it. Now I will move on to W5 and hopefully do well with it *gulp*

Thank you and I will say having someone else you are doing this with does help keep you going. When I am saying "No, not today" he is saying "Yes, we have to" and vice versa. We haven't been able to run together this week (school vacation so kids are home, we usually run right after they get on the bus and before he goes to work) and I will say I've missed it!

Hey that's great you are up to week 5!!!! How did the rest of this week go (i'm a bit behind here on the board, so if you posted, I didn't get there yet).

Allyson,

Thanks :goodvibes I am sure there may be weeks that I will need to repeat, but like my running buddy told me, even if we repeat some, we'll still be in better shape and be able to do better when we do our 5k in June.

My neighbor and I started walking every morning at 6:00am :scared1: last Saturday. We're going to walk 5 days a week, off Wednesdays and Sundays. We go throughout our neighborhood, and do about 2.5 miles in 45ish minutes. We'd like to start C25King it, but our neighborhood is full of hills. If we're not walking up one, we're going down one. Only about 1/4 of mile is flat. Do you job on hills?? Should we jog down them?

I am looking to loose about 10 pounds and get into shape--I am VERY winded after our walks. She has been working out since Jan. and lost 45 pounds!! :woohoo:

sorry but I can't help. I do mine on a treadmill and when I move outside, I'll use a trail that for the 'most' part is flat, small inclines. but I am very new to this.
