2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

Hi there!
Yesterday I did my first podcast run (W1D1). I thought I would have been able to do the whole thing since I'm in adequate condition (I usually bike about 8 miles a day, 5 days a week). I couldn't finish the running intervals:confused3 ...Those last 10 minutes were rough. I had to walk the last 10. I'm a little sore today, which I kinda expected since I'm working different muscles than when I bike and I could feel the difference when I was running.
But, tomorrow's another day and Ibuprophen is my friend.:thumbsup2

Well, I finished week 3. I think I'm going to do another week 3 this week, though, because last Friday I ended up only doing one of the 3 minute runs because my legs were killing me. Not sure why. And, I missed on Monday of this week. But, let me tell you, I hate this program and I've never cussed at anyone so much in my life, but I really am proud of myself for what I have accomplished.

Just stopping by to WISH you guys all the best. You're doing GREAT! Welcome to all of the newbies. :goodvibes Every step is a great one!

Try not to be intimidated by the plan. It works! Try each run and see how you do. There's no rule that says you can't re-do a day or a week. :thumbsup2 We all started at the beginning.

(for those of you that don't know me, I re-graduated a few months ago)

I'm having leg pain right now and am not running for a couple weeks. But I can't wait to get back out there! Especially since Spring is finally here!!!

Keep going guys......This is a GREAT support system. :yay:

Hi all! I just finished my W5D1 run. This week realllllllly makes me nervous, but I will have faith that I can get through it. It does get a little easier everytime!

Just did my second day of week 1....I'll probably be on week 1 for a while. I'm still having problems with that last 10 minutes, actually today it was more like 13 minutes. DOMS has set in on my gluteus maximus and a little in my thighs so maybe that has something to do with the extra time.

Friday is my next interval training. If I complete that day's intervals correctly, do I move on to week 2 next week or do I wait until I've done all three days correctly?:confused3

That is personal preference. When i first started, I had to complete all three days in one week (so if I failed one day, I had to redo the whole week), but as I have gotten further into the program, my opinions have changed on that.

As for me....W6D1 complete. It wasn't that hard. I was surprised. I am not running tomorrow as I am going to Hershey Park  , nor am I running Monday. It is a holiday, so i am taking the day off from exercising as well. I figure i will be pretty active all weekend with BBQ and swimming anyway.
On Wednesday I am going for W6D2 and after that, I have no more breaks in my runs!

I hadn't realized there was a thread for us C25K people. (Then again, it's the DIS -- I should know by now that there's a thread for everything!!!) So let me introduce myself and tell you where I am in the plan.

I am in Week 3 and plan to do Day 3 this evening. I'd been dreading the 3-minute runs, but to my surprise, I've survived them (so far)! If I succeed (when I succeed?) tonight, I get to start dreading those 5-minute runs in Week 4 instead!

I'm using the Robert Ullrey podcast to tell me when to run and when to walk and it really helps. (Although there have been times I've cussed him out for telling me it's time to run again.)

DH and I are registered for the Race for the Taste on October 12, which is helping me stay focused on the training. As my brother dryly noted, we'll do anything to have an excuse to go back to WDW -- even sign up for a race! I'm really looking forward to running through World Showcase.

In the mean time, we're also registered for a series of three informal 5Ks being put on by the local running store. We should still be in Week 8 for the first one, but I figure I'll just do that night's C25K workout and walk the remainder until I hit 5K.

I haven't posted in a couple weeks, but I did day three of week five today!!!!! 20 minutes of running (jogging for me) but I didnt' stop!!!!!!! As you can tell I am a bit excited!!! :cool1:

Johanna,

Good girl!!!! I just finished this week and I'll tell you I was SCARED!!!!! :scared1: But I did it. I did it 'slowly' but I ran for 20 minutes today without stopping. I wasn't sure when I had to run for 90 seconds that I could do that and I did, each week is a little easier to keep going!!! Keep at it.

All of you who have already done it are my heroes for running 20 minutes without stopping! :worship: I hope to join those ranks someday soon, but right now it's impossible to imagine.

I did W3D3 last night, but I ran outside in 80-degree, hazy, humid conditions and, as a result, am a little disappointed with my average pace. Race for the Taste has a 15-minute pace requirement :scared1: so that's always in the back of my mind whenever I upload my Nike + information after a run. Last night I averaged 14'26" miles. But that should get better when I start running more and walking less, right?

I'm SO nervous about Week 4, it's not even funny. The 3-minute runs have been a challenge, so it's hard to imagine doing 5-minute intervals. Yikes! I plan to run on Saturday and Monday because a 3-day weekend means no work-related excuses to shirk on the program. Please wish me luck!!!

About to do W2D4. Yep, no misprint, I been adding on a extra day each week because I get lazy if I have 2 days off in a row. Believe me, I need all the extra practice I can get. I like the run every other day, yoga on alternate days.

I can't even look ahead to next week and beyond, I'm afraid I'll chicken out if I do. What a inspiration ya'll are to me. :goodvibes

So, I'm on the TM now, but what are ya'll using for outdoor workouts to tally up your pace? Any suggestions?

Hi Rozzie! I live in AL too, but a bit further north so we can't be running buddies. I've been running on a track so I can keep track of my mileage. When I get home, I plug my distance and time into the Cool Running Pace Calculator. Quite a nifty tool!

I also have the Nike + Sport Band, which calculates pace and keeps track of your overall mileage. Unfortunately, I need to calibrate mine before I can rely on it. It tends to credit me with ~10% more mileage than I actually achieved. That tends to make my pace look MUCH better, so I almost don't want to calibrate it!

Hi Folks! So happy to see all of you kicking behind out there! Woo Hoo!

I had to take last week off. DH was away on business and my work schedule has been nuts so there was no time for me. The week prior I had been on W5 and I did D1 and D2. Then I hit the infamous D3. First time managed 14 minutes, 2nd attempt 16.5 minutes and then it was the week I couldn't run.

This week I have been out twice and I didn't even load my podcast, just ran to my own music. Consecutively did about 12 minutes at a stretch. I just need to do this 20 straight minutes. Tomorrow we try again.

Our first 5K is coming quickly on 6/14. I probably won't be able to run the entire thing but I would love to be able to run at least 2 miles of it!

Allyson :)

Well, I did w4d1 this morning and lived to tell the tale. Not just one, but TWO 5-minute runs under my belt! The heat and humidity made it brutal -- as did the fact that I was woefully out of shape at the start of this program -- but I made it. I'm aiming for w4d2 on Monday.

I DID W5D3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly can not believe that I was able to complete it! I am so excited, and it makes the rest of the program feel so much simpler from here on out! Woo-hoo!

Great job Johanna!!! I just did that this week and what an accomplishment! Keep up the good work.

Ya'll are my hero's!!!!!!!! :woohoo: I'm about to start W3 in a little while, and just coming here and seeing all the success you are having has made me a little less afraid.

Week 4 is trying its best to kick my behind. I'm keeping up with it so far (just did day 2) but it is TOUGH! The only way for me to get through it is to run really slowly. The good news is that I now know it's possible to run 5 minutes without stopping, which will help going into Week 5. The bad news, is there's a big difference between 5 minutes (Day 1) and 8 (Day 2) and a HUGE difference between 8 minutes and 20 (the dreaded W5D3 workout). Why such a huge jump next week? It's not doing much to improve my confidence!
