2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

Swim-mom , congrats on a GREAT 5k!!!!!!!!

I just completed W6d3! I didn't actually jog for the whole thing -- i stopped and walked for a couple min in there -- but my accomplishment was that i jogged for 1.5 miles straight of it! Which for me is great! ( I warmed up walking for the first .25 mile, and then jogged for 1.50 miles then i walked a couple min. then finished it off jogging)
So, my time for the 2miles is my best ever -- 26.49! :) I am extremely happy about this!!

Bring on week 7!

You guys are so inspiring! Way to go! Reading your progress really does help push newbies like me along!

I did D3 of W2 today and am a little nervous but excited to move on to W3. I keep saying to myself "You are REALLY doing this!"

Allyson :)

Hi everyone -

I completed my first 5K, after completing the whole C25K. So this is not my first 5K, but the first 5K that I RAN the whole thing :cool1:

The wind was horrible, it was enough to make your eyes tear. The sun was shinning and there was 168 people total in the 5K. Keep in mind there were close to 1,000 combined for the 5K, 10 mile and Marathon too.

I ate breakfast this morning, and I thought I would be fine............until the turn around point when I felt my breakfast making its way back up.....sorry  Needless to say I was able to control it, I guess praying does work wonders ;)

My finish time was 34:57, I was runner 138 out of 168, a new PR for me!!  :woohoo:

KIMWIM aslo did an AMAZING job as well as her friend, but you have to wait for her to post...................

Hey guys! :goodvibes

Yup, as swim-mom explained - the wind was crazy today! But we completed our 5k goal and I'd like to think we did awesome! :thumbsup2 She totally rocked it out and was speeding along! I didn't see any turtle action! :upsidedow It was great to finally meet in person - and I look forward to running more races in the future with her! :cool1:

I finished 128th, with a time of 33.47 and I'm extremely happy with that, considering the conditions.

Thanks to all of you, my c25k buddies for the support and encouragement!

Hey Swimmom and Kim!!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes

:cool1: YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!! :cool1:

CONGRATS ON YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS!!!!

:yay: :yay: I'm going to start week 3 today....didn't get to the gym for d3 of week 2. This should be interesting....You two are quite the inspiriation!:yay: :yay:

Swim-Mom & Kim: Congratulations to you both on the 5K, the great times, and getting to meet each other!! You came, you saw, you conquered. :cool1:  :yay:

Swim-Mom: And yay for not having to do a boot & rally!

Erika: With the way you're progressing and your incorporation of speed work, I think you'll be quite pleased with your pace for your 5K.

Caitsmama: You should be proud of yourself, you're making great time! I just know you're going to dominate W7! :woohoo:

Allyson: Great job finishing W2, and you've got the right can-do attitude about W3. Another challenge to conquer. You ARE doing this!

Starkiss: WTG, jumping into W3. You and Allyson are roughly on the same schedule, so you'll be able to commiserate & celebrate together. How cool!

As for me: Today is the first day I made an attempt to time myself on just running, rather than just throwing together my WU/CD times in with the actual run. My 5K time is just a couple seconds shy of 36:00. :cool1: I also find my breathing & HR are much better, at least in my perception, even as I increase my running time by 10% each week.

Now, my next question is....how many miles do I have to run before I "earn" one of those fancy new Garmins? :cool2:

Thanks for your kind words,,,,, BUT I was just like you. If you read the whole thread you will see I had my own frustration and times when I questioned the whole program. The most important thing I have learned is that it is OK to change the program and it is OK to walk even if the program does not have it. You need to listen to your body otherwise you could become injured. Most importantly believe in yourself, and know that EVERYONE is here to support you and hold your hand when you think you just can't do it  :lovestruc

I know because without the support I have had, I never would have finished the program.........and look for the first time in two years I can NOW finally run a whole 5K!!

Keep going............I know you can do it :woohoo:

Ugh, well I failed week 4 again. This time my Achilles tendons were acting up, both of them! Last week my knee was killing me. I think I am going to be stuck on week 4 until I am 90! :confused3 I got through most of the last three minute run and then my legs said no more, so I walked the rest of the time at 3.5 mph.
I don't get it, I used to be able to run a 12 minute mile. I suffered with horrible shin splints and would have to stop running every so often to give them time to heal, but never like this.
Luckily (knock on wood) I have had no problems with shin splints with this program, but with knees and ankles causing issues I feel like I have gotten no where.
I thought when my knee starting acting up that my shoes needed replacing, so I put on the new pair for yesterdays run. Maybe the tendon thing has to do with breaking in the new shoes. I can hope!

Today was D1W3 and I did it! I wanted to stop, I soooo wanted to stop. Those 3 minute runs were HARD! But I was with DH and we don't usually run together due to logistics and time constraints but have been trying when we can. Having him there really motivated me to keep going. It was hard but I am so glad I did it.

Allyson :)

Stick with it Allyson! And as others have said, we all have had times where we moan and groan or have to walk a stretch and so on. But like you....I am amazed at myself every day...like, you gotta be kidding! ME?!?! I just ran that whole distance? No way...." :rotfl2: It is really great to know what your body can do!

WOW! Great time! And a major WOO HOO to both of you for completing and doing so well! My first one is a month away (mostly because I am waiting until the weather is basically guaranteed...:rolleyes1 )

Debra: Great time on that 5k! You are making awesome progress on both the running and the r/w! And I agree....you totally deserve that Garmin!

As for me...I ran for 55 minutes today which was a struggle, but tomorrow is a rest day for me so I pressed on. I am definitely having some aches and pains that I need to talk to my coach about. My hamstring is not pulled, but it is sore, so I need to figure out if it needs rest or if this is just conditioning. And my hips continue to be sore...but I am pretty sure that is from not stretching enough and/or properly. My mom is a yoga instructor and she just gave me some postures that should open my hips a bit, so we'll see. Not a big yoga fan....

Have a great day, runners!

Allyson, YOU CAN DO IT!! I remember when the 3 min. were hard, then it was the 5 min, then the 10 min, now it's 25 hard minutes.. LOL But looking back, i can't believe how far i have come, in just a few weeks -- you will be the same way.. listen to your body, and move on when you can..
The WISH people really helped pull me thru and still do! I think of all the wonderful people i will get to meet in May, and thank them for all their encouragement!!

Wish me luck btw -- i start W7 today!!! (That is jogging for 25 min straight EACH day - of the 3 days.. ) lil' nervous!!! LOL

You will be fine today, you will be able to run the whole thing............which is proof that you can run the whole 5K in May!!!!

Swim-Mom: Oh, I think you underestimate how inspiring you are--and Kim, too. After all, you not only finished C25K, but you've come back from setbacks. And then you both put the training to the test with your 5K, in which you both had great times. Yep, pretty inspiring I'd say! :goodvibes

Of course, you're right about your bigger point--that everyone here is supportive & we should all applaud each other's journeys because we're all doing this great thing for ourselves.

Raenstoirm: You're another motivational person. Look at how dedicated you are, to keep on moving in spite of shin splints & now joint pain. I know you probably don't see it, but you are making progress--because you're listening to your body, you're moving (and 3.5 mph is faster than many people I know, let alone your 12 mph goal or run). I know you're doing things to make those joints stronger, to strengthen the supportive muscles, etc. I do think shoes will make a difference, too. You might just be like me, and need longer to adapt to running. I know it's easier for me to say this than it is for you to feel it, but you're not failing.

Allyson: I know exactly how you feel, as it wasn't that long ago that I thought I was going to DIE when running for that long. :) It's so great you were able to complete it with DH as your sidekick, because that probably helped you get over the mental battle, which I believe is a big part of the challenge in the program. You're doing great! (P.S. And there are still days when I start running and think I'm going to DIE. Part of the sick challenge is figuring out if that's my body or my stay-in-bed-longer mind talking.)

Erika: 55 minutes and you're up & walking today, if a bit sore? Something to look forward to...I guess. :lmao: :thumbsup2 I find it fascinating that the more we run, the more we find we need to do other active things (stretching, strength training, etc.). It's nature's sneaky little plan to keep us healthy. If you don't like yoga--gasp, and your mom's an instructor?!--how about Pilates?

Caitsmama: Good luck on Week 7; I found that week very challenging, and thought it was the "hump" week of the program for some reason. I'm sure you'll do fine. P.S. I feel I should know your name from the team threads. Sorry, it escapes me at the moment.

As for me: Strength training & some walking today. Geez, it was windy, so I'm glad I wasn't scheduled for a run. I added nearly a minute per mile to my walking pace! :scared1: In other news, just a couple more days here, then I'll be in WDW to celebrate my 40th b-day. :woohoo: I'm only planning on one run while I'm there, but if the weather is nice....

Thanks guys, (BTW, Debra, my name is Stacy ;) )

I did W7D1 -lil' bit of a struggle, i believe it had to do with me walking 2 miles yesterday -- when it was supposed to be a XT day -- or rest day -- i think i just should have done yoga or something else.. my legs just felt kinda heavy off the start.. but i managed to do 1.5 miles of straight jogging before i walked for a couple min, then jogged again, then walked a min or two, then jogged.. so, overall, i think my time was about exactly as it was the other night - about 2.0 miles in 26.49 -- then i walked another .25 mile so i can start to gain on my endurance and length.
I am still proud of myself, but i think tomorrow night -- i will do some stretches and yoga instead of walking on the TM, so i can be better adjusted for Weds. W7D2. I have a feeling this week is gonna take all i got.. LOL Both physically & mentally.

And i really think i need new sneaks!!! I got my current ones back in Sept.

:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
I just completed Day 1 of Week 3 and didn't die!!!!!!!!! I did the week based on distance instead of time and finished it in 25 minutes(5 min walk + 20 minutes of jog/walk). I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but its done. I'm so proud of me. I can't believe I actually RAN 1/4 mile....TWICE!! I know to anyone else, that sounds pitiful. But I know you guys understand....and Allyson, I'm right there with you babe! I was so exited to come home and share the news with all of you. :cheer2:

PS....:woohoo: I've found that See You Again by Miley Cyrus REALLY helps in the running part. I promise I'm not 12...it has an awesome beat. :woohoo:

Anyone want to share what tunes help them get through the rough parts
???(...ie running:lmao: )

DEB - :cheer2: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!! :cheer2: You will have an great time in Disney :) and it insures a magical day for you too :wizard:

Starkiss - First great job on your run today, we have all been there so trust me we ALL understand. You will look back and realize that today was a stepping stone for your progress next week and the weeks to come too ;)

I went on NIKEPLUS.com and went to their play lists and went and purchased Serena Williams, play list. It is great, alittle bit of this and alittle bit of that. On Nikeplus they also have country ones too, that stars listen too when they run............just an idea :)

Stacy - WAY to go, all that matters is that you did your very best........and you not only did your best but you also completed it

As for me - I did run, but not outside. I just had my TM fixed so I figured while the BL was on I would try it out. WELL, bad mistake  .... My shins are killing me, but I ran my normal 35 minutes but the TM said it was only 2.24 miles and not the 3.1 I run normally. Plus it felt like I had to push myself even harder, hence the shins hurting!! :scared1:

So tomorrow I am calling Sears to have them come back and look at my TM again!! I don't plan on running on the TM often, but it would be nice to do one day a week.................

Swim-mom, lol.. mabye i should switch to running outside then.. LOL Cuz, i do all my w/o's on the TM -- i haven't gone outside once yet -- i am a wimp with the cool weather. ;)

Starkiss -- GREAT JOB!! I agree, i like Miley Cyrus -- my dd listens to that song all the time, i should try that on my mp3. I do have her "start all over" on my mp3 - i like that one.
I really like her style, she is a cute kid, and it's not that teenybopper bubblegum stuff either.. It's like shes a lil' mini rock girl! LOL :) We saw her in concert in december, and she was great!!

I personally like my Metallica - "Wiskey in a jar" song, it brings back memories, and has a good beat.. Also, like the Black Eyed Peas ("Let's get it started") .

Well, I'm going to have to start all over next week. I got a sinus infection and bronchitis, so I've been away from the gym for a week.

GRRRR....

   Hope you feel better. Definitely make sure you're better before starting up again. :thumbsup2

You guys are ALL rockin' it around here! :woohoo: What a great group of girls we are!

As for me and my music...I am also not 12, but have Aly & AJ, High School Musical, Hairspray, Hillary Duff and Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus songs. I also have The Killers and The Hives (I highly recommend them) and lots of 80's music. Whatever gets me going, I say. My "theme song" is Fleetwood Mac, "Don't Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow)". When I first started running a couple years ago, that one always got me going, or kept me going. :thumbsup2

Have a great week, guys! I'm heading out for a run today at lunch. :goodvibes
