2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

I like the soundtrack from Speed 2. It has songs that I listen to often like "Never give up" and "You can get it if you really want".

Kim,i have HSM & Hillary Duff too!!LOL

Oh and since we are on teen music, Raven (least I think its her) has a song "this is my time" which is very inspirational

oooh, I love her version of double dutch bus.

So, I ran at lunch today. I was on my own (running buddy is off today) and ran listening to my MP3 again. LOVED it! Gotta say, it was a really good run. I felt good (slight twinge in my left calf, but nothing bad) and my breathing was good. I finished 3.57 miles in 39.22! I certainly don't expect to run like that all the time, but I kind of got into the zone with a song from The Hives (I ended up playing it 4 times to stay at the same pace. ).

I plan on running again on Friday and then some time this weekend.

Ok, with distance and time like that I am so downloading that song tonight! :rotfl2: Congrats on such an awesome run! :cool1:

Ok kim, share the secret, what song from the Hives??

Stacy: (Thanks for the name) I think you're doing great. Part of what you're doing is not only increasing your running time & distance, but you're figuring out what kind of WO that incorporates running will work for you over the long haul. That's extremely important, I think, if running is going to be part of your everyday life. And it sounds like you're adjusting your WOs and runs to make it so! :woohoo:

And FWIW, I don't sweat having to stop & walk during a run. Sometimes it's a HR thing, sometimes a need for water, sometimes it's just a moment to talk myself into more running. I figure walking here & there might happen on a course, or I'll need to stop & tie my shoes, go to the bathroom, etc. So an occasional break of the running pace is cool by me. I came to this program from a RW strategy, anyway, and there are many RW who will pass me in every event.

P.S. I'm a weather (and darkness) wimp myself. Most of my runs, until recently, have been on a TM.

Starkiss: And you should be proud of yourself. You're out there, running (or jogging if that's what you prefer to call it). You're challenging yourself. And even though I think we beginners don't think of it this way, this is a TRAINING PROGRAM. So when all our WISH buddies talk about their training programs, and intervals, etc., we should all remember that's what we're doing too! :woohoo: And I'M proud that you wanted to share your good news with us. What a great group of people to hang out with.

Swim-Mom: Thanks for the advance birthday wishes. Think of me a little on Sunday, the official day. Or not--I'll think about myself. I'm incredibly self-centered on my birthday.:rotfl: I'll have to check out the NikePlus lists, as I haven't explored that site nearly enough to have it be really useful for me.

You definitely need to have your TM looked at, as shin pain is serious. And you're right, there are just times when it's nice to have that option available. Especially for you, with your life and schedule. You never know when a midnight run might be called for. ;)

Fitswimmer: Oh, nuts! That's terrible. First you're sick and feeling horrible, then you feel like all the effort you've put in has been for nothing. It hasn't, of course, but that's how it feels; you'll bounce back quickly, I think. Still, I understand your frustration.

Kim: Well I AM 12...going on 40, and have much of the same music. Whatever works to "Get'cha Head in the Game," right? I second the request to learn the particular song from The Hives that works for you! Great time on your 3.5+ miles!

As for me & music: Um, I like the punk (pop punk, surf punk, punk blues, ska-punk, etc.), 70s funk, New Wave, garage rock, R&B, and hip-hop. Yeah, it's about the beat. On my iPod right now, I have Timbaland, The Pogues, Rick James, Gwen Stefania, The White Stripes, me first and the Gimme Gimmes, The Vandals.... Oh, and Elvis. My power song, currently? "Moving On Up" by M People.

As for me: I had another good day of running. In a couple of weeks, my straight running time will match my RW program for the SR on my 1/2 training program! :woohoo: That means I'll just need to shift over to a RW during my one LR/week. I'm still not sure what that means on the day of the 1/2 (still tentatively planning a RW), but it does mean that I'm in good shape for the Disney marathon. I'm also hoping to run the ToT 13K race this fall.

Is anyone else planning Disney races? And what other events are you planning?

Debra, wow.. you sound like you got it together girl!! LOL

I personally don't have any other races planned, we go to WDW every nov. for TG, so another trip in the fall is out for me.. (plus i am going on a 5nt. DCL cruise in Sept), and then probably going back to WDW again next May -- (my mom has a nursing confrence at CS, so we can tag along!) It's just too bad that they aren't doing another Minnie in May '09. :( That would have worked out perfect for me.

If you go to the events board, it is rumored that the Minnie will change into a 1/2 with a princess theme. Dont know if it is true, but just what I have heard (well read)...........just an FYI :)

Ok kim, share the secret, what song from the Hives??

You'd think after listening to it so many times, I'd know off the top of my head...wouldn't you? :confused3 Nope, not me. I went onto Amazon to listen to the songs, since I left my MP3 at work in my gym bag.

From The Hives, The Black and White Album....track #7...."Won't Be Long"

Go get 'em, ladies! :thumbsup2

ETA - after the Minnie 5k this May, I don't have any other Disney races planned. This one only worked out because we happened to have already planned a trip to Orlando for that weekend. At this point, I can't justify the cost of the trip there for a race. :( We currently have trips planned to WDW this August, March 2009 and September 2009. So if there are any races during those times...I'm in!!!

wow... that would be interesting.. LOL I don't know if i have a 1/2 in me -- but hey, it's a long way away right? ;)

Did W3D2 today and it was a little easier than Tuesday. DH wimped out on me today, it was too cold for him!:scared1: It was 25 but I warmed up quickly and I just couldn't put it off till tomorrow or Saturday. I am trying to stay consistant and I really wish Mother Nature would help me out with a little WARMTH!

I love how encouraging you all are here. It really is a nice place for people who are new to running or trying to run!

As for races DH and I are planning a local little 5K in June and then the Half in Disney in January!

I just completed Day 1 of Week 3 and didn't die!!!!!!!!!

Anyone want to share what tunes help them get through the rough parts
???(...ie running:lmao: )

I'm using the c25K podcasts from ullreys.com. I don't necessarily love the music but I do love someone telling me when to run/walk and that I only have a minute left and I can do it!

When I am inside on the elliptical glider I like to listen to a variety of stuff. I just go through DH's iPod (his has way more music) and pick things that might have a good beat or inspiring lyrics. I find myself back in the 80s a lot, old Bon Jovi, Billy Idol, etc. Relax by Freddy Goes to Hollywood has a great beat I find!

Ugh, failed week 4 again. I got so close. I only had 1 minute of the final 5 to go and I just couldn't do it. My ankles were killing me and my lungs weren't exactly happy either. One or the other, I might have been able to do it, but both just outnumbered me. Ideally I should be able to complete the whole thing on Friday. When i stared this program I figured I would make it Mon-wed-fri, so I cant move on until I get all three in a row, so I have to redo week 4 next week anyway.

Well, i don't consider that failing, you got all but one last minute in -- so if you walked that last minute, then at least you were moving, and that counts to me!

Just wanted to share my thoughts on the C25K Program now that I have finished! Today was my last run, after starting 9 weeks ago. I was following the program by time. All my running was done on a treadmill, using a 1% incline. I was using the C25K Podcasts for Running by Robert Ullreys.

My thoughts, in no particular order:

- I found the middle of the program to be the hardest. The jump to 20 minutes of straight running at Week 5 Day 3 is the most intimidating, and the most difficult. After that, I had the confidence to know I could make the times, even if I had to slow down the running.

- I commented earlier on this thread about how the program is structured when following time as opposed to distance. You need to follow one or the other, and not be concerned with how fast you run. There are anomalies in the program if you try to do both (ie. running at 10mpm, and then taking your "walking" break, also at 10mpm) Pick one or the other and stick with it. Don't concern yourself with how fast you are going in either case. Do what you can do.

- The podcasts are a really good way to keep track of the program by time. There are some errors though, so keep your eye on your watch. The week 8 program is short on the running by one minute, and the week 9 program is long on the running by one minute. I think there were some other errors in the middle of the program too, but I can't remember now. I liked the week 8 music the best out of the weeks, so I ran to that today, adding the extra minutes required.

- My total mileage (including the warmup and cool down) is well over 5K, so I'm not intimidated by the distance. I know I can finish, even if I had to walk. My plan now though is to decrease the pace, and start running the entire 5K. Then I will start increasing the pace again. I have a 5K race coming up on April 20th, so I'm getting ready for that.

I wish you all good luck on completing the program. I really enjoyed it, and it really is a good way to break up the process of getting from couch potato to runner. Don't be afraid to repeat, or to run as slowly as you need to. I know you can do it! :cheer2:

Hi everyone -

Well, I have been told I am a runner.......... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? I would laugh, however last night I had my "WOW I AM A RUNNER" :goodvibes

I had to run to the store and on my way back it started to drizzle, so I told my dh that I was going to hurry up and run before the rain comes. So I stretched and stretched some more ;)

Ok, I am finally ready to go and it is raining lightly (more than a drizzle) so I debated should I or not.........I stood outside and thought should I or not. Then I came in and did the whole process all over again. Then finally, I thought well I am wet from standing outside like a fool to see how hard it was raining, I might as well just go run...............

Mind you DH "said I was crazy" and my oldest son said it was going to thunder and I should stay home  , but I figured I was going to be soaked from just running so why should the rain stop me???

So my normal 3.1 route and did it in 35 minutes, I took it nice and easy because I got worried with my neck and if I fall. I felt great and I realized being soaking wet, I AM A RUNNER.....................and it feels great!! because I could have used raining as an excuse, but I just felt like I had to do it, and I DID :)

P.S. I still think of it as being WEIRD, me a runner............nah I just had a great day.......shhhhh:cloud9:

CONGRATS on your graduation!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

You've done it! And done it wonderfully! :thumbsup2 I think your plan will work wonderfully and you're gonna ROCK that 5k in a few weeks. :yay:

Don't stop posting here, or on the c25k graduates thread. We want to know how you're doing!

I am so happy! I just did my best time ever!

I did a walk/jog combo for 3.0 miles finishing in 41.12 -- which beats my time on Thursday of 43.28! I am so happy!!
So, as i have said before, this is my new plan, stepping aside from the C25K plan (would have been finishing W7 today) ,and forming my own.

Tomorrow, i am going to try to ask my mom if she will lovingly help me buy some new sneaks - they just aren't in my budget due to saving for WDW - so, i decided to suck it up and ask good 'ol mommy..
Hey, i don't ask her to buy me clothes or shoes ever, so i think she will be ok with it -- and i would love to see her get some for herself too -- she needs and deserves them too.. Now...... how to plot my plan.... LOL j/k i am just gonna come out and beg ('er ask) her..
