2008-2009 Cheer Parent Thread!!!!

our teams are going to the UCA All Star Nationals in Orlando in March. Its our first Florida competition so all the kids are excited. We normally go to Myrtle Beach instead.

You will love it, it's a fun competition! What gym are you with? Will your teams be staying at the All Stars?

Hey everyone!

We start back to practice tonight! Yippee! I'm anxious to get the season rolling! I was sad to see the end of my daughter's mini 2 team but I'm excited to see what this season brings for her on youth 2! If they're ready they'll compete the beginning of December

Hey Everyone,

DD9 is on the junior level 3 team. She had her choreography camp last week. I can't wait to see our team on the competition floor. We are at a new gym this year so it will probably be a building year, but the choreography looked pretty good.
DD11 is cheering junior high so we will be going to UCA Nationals in Orlando in February. I have already booked my flight and hotel.
Rosemary- I met you at Cheersport in Atlanta last year. Keep us posted on how your season is going. Is your DD's ankle recouperated all the way???

I just tried Pro-X and couldn't get through either. They must be having difficulties.

Kristie............thanks for asking about Stephanie's ankle. She has recovered but it still gives her some trouble when practicing for high school since they do not use a spring floor.

Hope everyone's choreography is going well!! Can't wait until the season gets underway!

Our first football game of the season was last Saturday. DD's cheer squad was awesome, especially for their first time of the year.

There is a new site: http://www.cheertruth.com

Right now it is not as imformative as the Pro-X forum but it is new. From the talk on that forum, Pro-X shut down for 'political' type reasons. That is too bad as I loved lurking there to gain some informaton for comps and tips of the sport.

Yes, there was some drama on the Pro-X boards and I especially hated the gym bashing and team bashing!! I don't know if many will catch on to this new forum.......time will tell. Right now it is pretty much dead!! There is one topic which I truly do not like in the forum..........it gives the opportunity for gym owners to tell others the names of those families that have left them in a financial whole. I find that very disturbing and not appropriate. I for one, would think twice of a gym owner that truly posted the name or names of former members who gym hopped and left a financial balance behind. Not to mention setting themselves up for a lawsuit!

I don't think this site is censored so to speak and I do think there will be serious gossip/bashing done and it could get very nasty!! Not too sure if I will post or stick around for it if it gets like that. Time will tell.........

Just wanted to come on and say Hi! I was directed here by a question I posted on another thread on the disboards. My DD 14 cheers for Comet AllStars Sr Open 4 team in NJ. This is her 5th season cheering last year she cheered level 4/5 but she had a mono like virus that put her out for almost 6 months then she just recovered and she sprained her ACL while walking on our family vaction in WDW! She is just getting back to top performance order, starting to throw her full again although struggling with the jumps to tucks. She can't wait to get back on the floor. Some of our major competitions inclue, WSF Atlantic City, Cheersport GA, Spiritfest CT, AllStar Challenge Baltimore and US SpiritNationals, Universal Orlando.

I am soooo bummed out by prox not working! I need my daily fix of the Dis and cheer gossip! DD's former gym, (prior to this season has basically fell apart we are very sad over it.) all her best cheer friends are scattered across the state at other gyms. My best cheer friends are down at World Cup and their level 5 teams will be at Cheersport, Providence and the UCA national to name a few. Be sure not to miss them.. they are incredible this year! If possible they may top last years Worlds performances! wow!

We are so very, very happy at our new gym. I let DD go to 4 different gyms all within an hours drive of us and she made great teams at every one. I totally expected her to pick World Cup but she picked a slightly smaller but very up and coming gym a little closer to home. She has many friends at this gym as well who had left our former gym so it felt like home within one week of being there. Let the season begin!

addictedtodizney......Welcome to our own little Pro-X (without the bashing!! LOL).

I have had the pleasure of meeting our DIS Cheer Mom's at competitions and loved routing for their teams.

I have heard of Comet Allstars and most likely have seen them before. My DD cheers for Celebrity Cheer out of Salem NH (we live in MA) on their Large Limited Coed 5 team. Last year they were Unlimited but all but 4 boys aged out!! So I am sure we will be competing against your friends if they are on WC Odessey. WC Shooting Stars are my favorite along with Top Gun Lg Coed!!! I just can't sit still while watching them!!

I can relate to the injuries and the process of getting your skills back. My DD suffered torn ligaments/tendons when she rolled her ankle after being let out of a stunt!!! That was this past January and through resting and physical therapy has gotten back her skills. Her double full is not quite what it was before the injury (she lands slightly short of full rotation) but she is working it out. Flying does present some problems with overstretches as it was her right ankle that was injured and the pressure that is put on that ankle bothers her at times. She wears a protective brace now. This is her last year cheering then off to college.

Yes, My DD has good friends on Shooting Stars, Odyssey, (her best), Galaxy, Cosmic Ray, Starlites, (other besties) and one very talened girl on Twinkles.(the twinks girl's mom is one of my best friends) We had previously been at a great little gym called Cheer Academy in NJ. A few years back we went to a WSF comp in Vegas and our gym and Celebrity were the only gyms there that were not novice gyms. I think your gym got large gym champs and we got small gym champs! We hung out at the competition and chatted with a lot of the Celebrity parents. None of us could believe we took a 5 hour plane ride for that competition. It was like a small local! I don't know if you were there but it was a competition we will never forget!

My screenname on prox is addicted2cheer if you ever saw me on there. Do you see a pattern? lol.. I also loved seeing your teams at WSF in AC. I know you guys didn't come down last year. With the Worlds bids be taken away from that comp it has suffered with the out of state attendees. Yes, let's all post we were are going. I can start to make a running list of who will be at what comps. Just post where you will be. I am leaving for Disney on Tuesday so I may not update until next weekend. Just post away and I'll catch it all up when I get back! Thanks again for the welcome!

Glad Stephanie's ankle is doing better. Fingers crossed for everybody that their season is injury free.

OMG! I think we used to go to the same gym - at least I think I know who you are referring to. I probably know you! My DD cheered on the mini team. We moved to DE last year before things fell apart at the place I think you used to belong to. I liked it there. I think we left before the problems happened. My DD's best friend cheers for WC now - Youth 4. And I know, other girls from her team went to Comets, too! You will soooo have to PM me!

They are selling the new cheerleading monopoly game on it. It feature one of Celebrity's team (one of the CT teams) and a member from Stephanie's lg coed 5 team last year!!!

They are working their pyramid now and all I can say is ..............OMG.......if it hits it will be amazing!! As will their routine and dance is off the hook. I am loving this routine..............although I don't know the music but Stephanie says I will recognize it when I hear it. Can't wait to see it put together.........I've just been catching bits and pieces!!
