2007 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC07 - October 21, 2007

Cheryl, saw the header about the fires down in Florida. Are they bad by your location? Sounds like you guys need some rain! I heard from friends down at WDW right now and it sounded like they got some rain last night. Hope it helped.

Our part of Florida is very dry also. We have had smaller fires all over. Seagrove beach has lost some beautiful rental homes. Then you still see the stupid people throwing cigarettes out the car window!!!!
We are supposed to get some rain this week end from Andrea!!!!!! I can't believe its may and we have a named storm already. Not a good start to hurricane season.

Joanne - sorry to hear it is bad down by you too. Is it all over Florida?

I was surprised when I heard you had your first named storm already. Isn't June 1st the start of hurricane season? Here's hoping that this may be an early but mild season with no hurricanes actually making landfall.

Yes, hurricane season starts June 1. This is not a good sign. The beaches are getting hit on the east coast. Beach erosion is never a good thing.

Yes there were some fires over in Apopka. They did close one of the roads by me.

Cheryl

Good morning everyone!

From what I heard on the radio is sounds like Andrea the storm has been downgraded. That's good to hear.

Amanda what are your plans out in LA? Going to Disneyland? We've had some great times out there. In December of 2005 we met up with Cheryl and Todd for a couple of days at Disneyland. Love that it is Walt's original park and full of history.

We arrive on Tuesday and get 1 day at Disneyland. Then its to the Best Buy events that brought us to LA.(wed to fri). We don't know where or what we are doing and/or staying for Sat and Sun. Then we fly home on Monday. If anyone has ideas what to see and stay, please let us know.

Orange County is beautiful. Long Beach, Huntington & Laguna Beach.
Laguna is fun to walk arround. It is an artsy town right on the beach.

We are heading to Ca also this summer. Two days in LA, then we drive to the Grand canyon, two days there then a long drive to Yosemite. Four days in Yosemite. then we end up in Sacramento at my sisters for four days. My oldest is 21 so I wanted them to see some of this country before the settle down into the real world. I really love California. We lived in Long beach for a few years when we were first married. But the air force didn't seem to think we needed to go back. But that ok. I love Florida.

Have a great day.

There are so many choices in CA. I can't wait to go back someday.
I definitely think if DL is your goal, the closer the better.

Have fun!!

I agree with Cheryl that the closer the better. Plus if you only have one day I would focus just on Disneyland and save California Adventure for another trip.

Not to be missed at Disneyland:

  • Small World - much different than WDW
  • Haunted Mansion - again much different than WDW
  • Pirates
  • Matterhorn - if you do coasters it is a very mild one
  • Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and the Walt Disney Story. Right when you come in off Main Street. Never crowded and full of history.
Dining recommendations:
  • Blue Bayou
  • Plaza Resturant
As for the rest of the area - I'm afraid we haven't done much except Disneyland itself. The only exception is the San Diego Zoo which is awesome but quite a ride down and a full day activity.

Have a great time!

Splash Mountain: You WILL get wet. Drenched even
Autotopia: very cute
Alice in Wonderland: very cute
Roger rabbit: cool
Indiana Jonas: good as well

Also Space mountain is different there.

OMG - how could I forgot about the Indiana Jones ride. That is a must do!

We are DLand passholders and I've got to say that all your recommendations are great except one thing.
Great Moments w/Mr Lincoln has temporarily changed to the Walt Disney Story hosted by Steve Martin & Donald Duck. and they have a model of Disneyland as seen on opening day - gotta see that if you are a Disney history buff. Also if you plan on eating at the Blue Bayou, make reservations at least 2 weeks in advance, it is THE best restuarant in the park.

for those who have been at DL- can we do it in 1 day or should we come back at the end of the week? We are doing Universal with my company on Friday. Dinner at House of Blues on Tuesday.

Also because I'm not sure of what to pack- is LA casual, dressy ????
All the help is GREAT!!!!!!:laundy:

You should be able to do it all in 1 day depending on crowds. I'd recommend splitting it up if you can. LA seemed casual to me.

Ray - thanks for that correction. We had actually seen the Walt Disney Story on our last visit. Sorry I got it confused with the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. I'm getting my Disneyland trips mixed together. :lmao:

Disneyland can be done in a day. As Cheryl said it depends on the crowd level. My first visit was a day trip while staying in LA (many many years ago). I'd want to come back for a 2nd day to really soak in everything that is Disneyland.

Doing it all in one day has alot of variables, right now a few of thier attractions are down for refurbishment before the summer break, also are you a mad rusher or a take it easy person, the reason we got passes is to enjoy each land on 1 day, we sit and listen to live bands, check out stuff off the beaten path and ride our favorites attractions over & over.
We don't live in the L.A. area, but I don't think there can be any less casual dressed city (except at the night clubs).
Enjoy your stay in our great state, but be warned, the weather is usally enough to make most people stay.
