racrj,
Welcome! The magnet paper is awesome! I use Disney clip art free from the internet to enhance my door sign. I'll also personalize it with our name and room number, if you have it, so it doesn't wander far. I also will print up some random characters on the extra sheets, cut themout and put them all over the door for those pirates pirate: who feel they need to borrow them for their own door. :)

Wow our group is really growing!

What type of software do you use? The only software I have installed on my computer is Word, PowerPoint and some type of photo enhancer software for my digital camera. How does one go about getting the backgrounds of some of the awesome door magnets I have seen? I've checked out the DISboards and have seen many wonderful signs, but I am at a loss of where to get the background......

To be honest, I've never paid any attention to the magnets. I've seen some decorated doors, but thats about it. Any links available to pictures of them, or perhaps somebody could post a couple?

Check this out for ideas and things you can download and print at home- She has a whole section of cruise door sign possibilities.

There are TONS more ideas on this thread, and there are people who will do a custom design for you if you ask nicely. That's what I did =)

Otherwise, you can do something basic in Word if you download a Disney font and some clip art (check the Creative DISign board for instructions/websites on how to do this).

This is my first time posting to any thread, but our third Disney cruise. My DW and 2 DDs will be going on the September 2, 2006 cruise. My daughters will be celebrating their 12th birthday (twins) on the cruise on 9/7. We are from Georgia and will probably be driving down. :cool1:

Hi everyone. I am new to the disboard..just found out about it. I will be travelling with DH,and DD (almost 4yrs-old).

I would love to meet folks online with similarly aged kids, to know that DD will have some friends to play with on board.

Also, I'm having trouble convincing DH that he needs to pack a suit for his Carribean vacation. Any help on this subject would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard. You're going to have a GREAT time on the cruise. Is this your first cruise? First Disney Cruise?

As for the suit, this has been an ongoing conversation in several cruise groups I've been in. Most of the time it's whether to wear a tux or not. Just remind hubby that you want to relive the magic of the classic cruise lines of yesteryear and that a suit for formal night will help set that mood.

Tux wearers are the minority for sure, but not wearing at LEAST a suit or sport coat will certainly not be the norm.

Tell him its expected and Captain Mickey will have him walk the plank if he's not dressed accordingly! pirate:

Thanks for your reply. It is our first Disney cruise. We have been on 1 prior cruise (2 years ago), but it was Carnival and went to Eastern Canada, so this will be quite a bit different. We had a good time but were generally unimpressed with the meals on Carnival, but it was a very affordable price, so I'm not complaining. However, we do not recall many people dressing up.

We have heard that even though family oriented, Disney is more upscale than Carnival. So, perhaps that means people dress for the occasion as well. Don't worry, DH had at least agreed to bing a sport coat, but I am wondering if he needs a suit as well/instead. I'm pretty certain he will never go for a tux, but he probably doesn't want to be emabarassed by being underdressed either. Is the sport coat sufficient?

If your daughter is like my daughters, she will be spending most of her time at the Oceaneer Lab. We went on the Magic, 7 day Western Caribbean last September, and my daugthers wanted to spend all of their time at the Lab. :cool1:

Hi there,
Just wanted to let you know there are 3 4 year old girls I can think of, and I'm pretty sure a couple 3 to 4 year old boys in our group so your DD will have plenty of kids her age =).

Also, I'd recommend either pack the suit, or you might want to dine somewhere other than main dining for the more dressy nights. Although I don't think Disney is a huge stickler for attire, it's sort of a matter of respect for those who take the time to dress up to at least attempt to look a little more formal on those nights. But there are plenty of dining options if you don't want to wear a suit. That's just my $.02- there are those who would say they can wear what they want it's their vacation and to heck with everyone else... it does also make for nice pictures if you're all dressed up.

Welcome to our group =)

Courtney

Thanks Courtney! I appreciate the candid reply. I showed it to my husband and may convince him to at least pack the suit- no guarantee that he won't take up your alternative suggestion to just dine elsewhere on that night.

Glad to be a part of the group!

I just posted a reply to you on the formal nights thread. Please don't feel like you have to dine else where in the ship if you and your family don't want to go the whole 9 yards with formal attire. There area always folks who aren't dressed up and it's not an issue, well at least not for DCL and most people. There have been a few posters who have been a bit vocal about their views on the recommended dress code, but they are in the minority.

Just got back from a week at Disney World. The kids had a blast. The parents are a little tired. DS 1 had a great time. He really loved the characters. We were a little worried that he might be scared. But he was all over them. We are now ready for the cruise.

To tell you the truth, I was too busy enjoying my dinner that I never noticed what other people were wearing, nor would I have thought to look around and check. I think most people feel the way I do, so you'll be fine eating with everybody else. :thumbsup2 I think the whole point of formal night is to give people the opportunity to have a reason to get all dressed up and have great pictures taken, if they choose to. Either way, I wouldn't sweat it too much. You'll have a great cruise no matter how your husband decides to dress that night. :goodvibes

Courtney,

THANK YOU. The site you gave has a ton of good things. I really appreciate your help!! :Pinkbounc

I can't believe there are only 33 more days!!! I'm getting more nervous and excited. My parents have finally opted to fly with us the day before and changed their reservations. I was a little worried about meeting then the next day at the airport and then driving to the port and actually making it on time.

I told my mom that I was on this thread and she asked me to ask a few questions for her :wave2: - so here they are......
1. What time does Disney let you on the boat?
2. What is the best time to arrive for checkin?
3. If we were not able to make reservations for Palo's online, how do we go about that on the boat? Will there be spaces available?
4. When at St. Thomas, she is worried about the customs check. What time would that be and does everyone have to show up? Is there a particular location everyone meets or can you stand outside your door?

I believe that is all I can remember from our lengthy conversation, but I'm sure there is more.....
