2006 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC06 - October 22, 2006

Gary & I love the Wii (okay, the kids do too ) but we enjoy bowling and competing against each other. We have a lot of fun and enjoy watching the kids do the tournaments. I haven't advanced enough to manage to get my bowling ball to jump over those hurdles yet.

Tim wants an XBOX 360, and I told him when we finish remodeling the house he can have one, otherwise he will never leave the family room! ...I am competitive, but I'm not a big TV, or video game person, I do love board games! The wii or XBOX 360 will probably be next years christmas gift!

Cameron had the expander and front top 4 teeth in braces back a couple of years ago. The orthodontist called that "phase 1". We're almost ready for "phase 2" and have an appointment in a couple of weeks. Along with Cameron getting the full mouth done, Walker is at the beginning of "stage 1" so he'll be getting the expander at the same time.

Can you say "cha-ching"!!! One of the nice things about our orthodontis is they give you an option of paying up front with no discount or financing with them at NO interest. It helps to be able to spread the payments out and as long as they aren't charging us anything to do that, it's a very easy decisioin to make.

Haylee will be next with her expander! Our orthodontist offers the payment plans also, but because I work for a dentist that is good friends with the orthodontist, and we recommend alot of patients there, they are taking what the insurance pays for the girls braces...I consider myself so lucky, because I know how much it cost, and we only have $4000 worth the ortho coverage, and then they only pay at 50%, so if we dont have $8000 worth the braces, then they only get 50% of whatever the cost is. I would be not visiting Disney for a while if I had to shell all of that $ out. I had one of front teeth start to move after having braces as a child somewhere else, and he made me an appliance to wear at night that reconfigured my whole bite, now I bite down and the mid line of my front teeth are even. Very nice man! Good Luck with the braces, and expander!

Ok here is my Readers Digest to reply to everything!

Thanks all for Nick's well wishes on his spelling bee. He (along with 3 others) got knocked out over the word hygiene, he had the i & e in the wrong order.

So far he is doing ok with his braces. A little discomfort on a couple of teeth last night so I put a little orajel on and he felt better. This morning he didn't feel like eating anything so I made him an "Orthodintic Milkshake" (thanks MaryJ). He's sleeping over my parents house tonight but I talked to him earlier and he said he is doing ok and his mouth is not bothering him.

Cindy - I did the before and after pics because my local scrapbook store had some great "braces" paper so I'm going to do a layout.

Amy - I can't believe Madison started school! What a big girl! Ok and I have one question, what school starts in March?

Gail - Oh our orthodontist has a bunch of before and after pics of Nick. That poor boy has been going for over 2 years and has had a mess of stuff done. His mouth is just a wreck, from crowding, having 7 teeth pulled, headgear, a pallet widener and now the braces. Depending how things go after his teeth are moved and straightened over the next 2 years he may have to have some tendons on a couple of teeth cut and re-attached do to some teeth that are twisted.

Annmarie - The spelling bee started with some easy warm up words. The first boy got knocked out by the word chocolate, then 4 got knocked out with the word hygiene (which is when Nick got out) then I don't really remember the other words since Nick was out so I wasn't paying to much attention. They got all the words from the 2007 Merriam-Webster Spell it book.

Tina - Enjoy the discount!!! I'm waiting to see how much will be getting paid between mine and Jeff's dental coverage. Hopefully they cover alot because it's gonna be like $4700!

No, our school doesn't start in March. But, we've had Madison "pre-registered" for the 2yr old program since August, but she couldn't go until she was potty-trained. So, my dear, stubborn, little girl didn't decide to start doing it until about a month ago. But, now she's almost completely trained (still has some trouble getting the clothes off/on). So, there was room so we just started her today. She's loving it, and it gives me a few hours of uninterrupted errand-running time.

I don't know why---but it looks awfully odd seeing as "06" or "2006" is mentioned 4 times in the title.

This isn't directed to you, Mary but I'm just commenting on what you're saying--

I can't see how adding 2006 or the date in both number and word form to the title makes it that much easier to find.

Threads will be easier to find if the search function actually worked.

And, I'm betting that they wouldn't have let just anyone start in March, but because Emily goes there, I volunteer there and Madison has been "around" the school all year, so they let her start.

Ok, does anyone know why our thread name was changed???

It did, didn't it? How weird as it looks like most of the rest of the threads for past cruises were left with their original titles? Why only this one renamed? I hope they certainly follow suit and rename the others for "consistency".

Does anyone else feel like things are a bit strange around here? It seems like the "family" feeling of the DIS is no longer around. First the new point structure, now thread names being changed? I've spent my share of time on this thread and if it wasn't for it, my posting on the DIS would be much less frequent. And, as time goes on, I suspect it might continue to be be less and less. I've enjoyed the friends I've met here and truly have very little desire to post elsewhere on the DIS.

But, it doesn't look like anyone else's thread was changed, only ours. Seems odd to me. My thread for my April cruise wasn't changed, our December '08 wasn't changed. I'm with Cindy that the DIS is getting to be a little impersonal lately.

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but Mary, maybe you can ask Lisa why she felt the need to rename our thread and no other thread. This doesn't seem right. In all fairness, all threads should follow the same format then, and ours looks totally silly. with all the same information in it. There are many threads with other variations of what is now supposidly the uniform naming consistency. Heck, even the blabbermouth thread doesn't have a date and that's okay. Why is ours different?

You know, if there was confusioin between our cruise and the 07 member cruise, I could accept that as an answer, but geez, it would have been nice to ask some of us if there might have been a better title than the one that was selected by someone who didn't even sail on this cruise.

Trust me guys I have asked and I still don't have an answer. So color me confused as well.

As for the points system. Honestly the only thing that is new about that is that we know have a way to track if someone is getting out of line, but what you would get dinged for is the same as it has always been (being rude, bad signature, spam, etc.) Having "points" makes it more serious but I know most of us when we give a first time warning for a signature etc. don't even assign points and the problem is fixed.

It really is meant to make things fair for everyone, sorry if it takes away from the family feel. That wasn't the intent.

Seriously, I think that this thread is still thought of as an active thread (Case in point, I am posting in it now) and we still keep it close to page 1. There are people from all over the world trying to find information/meet up with people that they will be cruising with.

It does make a certain amount of sense to kep the date first, Especially if people are trying to put the threads in order to more quickly find a date.

It's JMHO, but I don't think it is a bad thing to add a little organization Ala Dewey Decimal...

I think you missed the point. Our thread was the only one changed. I see having a date first in the thread title as a good thing, but change everyone elses too. We are not even the oldest thread on page 1 but for some odd and strange reason it was picked to be changed. I think what the others are a bit confused about was - why would Lisa pick our thread and change only it?????? Something just doesn't add up.
