cgcw said:How do all of you qualify for a flu shot? After I had the flu earlier this year, I mentioned to my own doctor that I wanted to get a flu shot come fall. He then told me that I don't qualify as I'm not old enough to be in the "at risk" area. I then reminded him that not only do I have school aged kids of my own, but I work with little kids everyday and he said, I still don't qualify.
His feeling is that unless I meet the guidelines (which I believe are age 55??) then he won't allow me to have it because having the flu for me shouldn't be life threatening.
I tell you, though, when I had the flu, I felt more terrible than I have in a long, long time. Maybe not life threatening, but definately miserable.
Cindy - look into gdetting a new doc!! There is no shortages of the vacine this time, so there should be NO REASON for your doc to tell you no. It's not just about "life threatening" - it's about maintaining0 good health. For example, you catch the flu - potentially it passes to the rest of your brood or to the day care kids OR since your sick you shut down for a few days. So your off work (and losing money), Gary misses work cause he's sick, Cameron & Walker miss school. Not to mention your clients are scrambling for other arrangements while your shut down... NIGHTMARE!! Get the shot/mist, there are other places where you can get them free (call the health department). If your DOC is in an office with several others that are partnered up - go to one of them or ask the lead physician. To tell you - sorry you dont qualify is a LOAD OF BUNK (insert other words here - DISNEY)
