OH, AnnMarie this is so sad. It is an awful fact of life as we get older to see our friends and family members pass on. Hoping you can find some nice memories to reflect on during this difficult time.

Hey Mary - only 127 posts until you hit 20,000 posts!!! Do you think that you can make it before the cruise????? :thumbsup2

Come on! You're talking about Mary here! She can reach that post in a few days. Okay, why did I just get a flashback to the old game show . . . Name That Tune . . . how long will it take Mary to get 127 posts?

Speaking about shyness...OK here's the thing. I feel like if say I see Diana Lyn and go up to her and say "Hi Diana, I'm Ilene nice to meet you" She'll be like um yeah, Hi but not really know who I am. Then I'll feel stupid. So I hope I've made enough of a name for myself here so that when I do get up enough guts to introduce myself that won't happen. Once I get talking to people I'm fine but it's that initial intro that sometimes becomes overwhelming  And it's a little more so because so many of you already know each other and will be all huggy and stuff :goodvibes I hope I can join in on your fun.

Ok, since you and I are kinda like the new kids on the block! When I see you, I'll come up and introduce myself and give you a hug! That'll start the ball rolling!

See now that's nice idea. How 'bout this one..you know the group photo they take, how about using one of the mats we talked about earlier and having everyone sign the mat for the photo to go into. I think I will do that. I didn't get into having the characters sign it but I think it would be cool to have all of you sign it. The problem is I'd have to carry it around alot...hmmmm

My thought too. It's a great idea but the mat may get ruined during your travels because it needs to stay flat.

Ilene, please don't feel like that. I know it's hard to come into a group that already knows each other, but let me tell you, there were many, many people who we never saw last cruise, even though they posted regularly on our thread. I am terrible about remembering names but I hope I can remember some of what everyone has posted about themselves on this thread. That's the entire purpose of the get to know you.

I don't think your going to feel like we aren't going to recognize who you are on this thread. We are a very welcoming group and you will fit in just fine.

In fact, here's a quick story. Last year, they gave us trivia cards while we waited to get into the ship. It was a ice breaker exercise where you had to find people who fit the specific categories. We stood in line with a man & woman who mentioned they posted on the DIS all of 3 times I believe. Even though they only posted a couple of times, to this day, I still remember their DIS names and the fact that they really did post only a couple of times. I suspect there are others out there, reading our thread, who for whatever reason have decided not to post. It's really a nice way to get to know your fellow cruisemates now so if nothing more, we can smile and exchange a hi, how are you on the ship.

Oh Ilene - I don't think that you have anything to worry about!!! Actually, a lot of us are very shy in person (I know for a fact - myself, Diana, Cindy, Mary and I'm sure there are more). But, that's the reason for this thread, to get to know people ahead of time, so they aren't really "strangers" at all, but just friends that we haven't met in person yet.

My guess for today!

SNOW DOGS!

Only becuase the weather man promised nice warm weather! And it's not!

Got some sad news yesterday. My best friend who lives in FL called to let me know her ex-husband (my cousin) past away. He died of liver failure. He had a liver transplant 3 years ago and it started failing about 1.5 years ago and unfortunately found out six months ago he wasn't a candidate for another transplant. He is leaving behind two boys (sophomore and senior in high school). They are both taking this very hard. Even though they have had a few months to prepare it's still difficult!

Annmarie, I sorry and will keep the boys in my prayers.

:hourglass Time is slipping away! Still have a lot to do! I just found out my work network is down until 7pm tonight so it looks like I can't finish the 2007 budget until tomorrow so I guess Tom and I have the day to ourselves!

We are all waiting to find out what his new wife is going to do for arrangements. She is thinking about having a service here in MA only so if this happens, my friend and the boys will fly up and stay with Tom and I. His wife said she wants him to be where the rest of his family is buried. It's going to be a crazy week!
I'm SO sorry to hear that!!! Prayers for your family as they go through this tough time!!!!

Mary, I think you were just called a blabbermouth :teeth: ;)

Annmarie - Thoughts and prayers for you and the family.

Even though you have time to prepare, it still does not make it any easier.

My problem will be remembering everyone's REAL names. If you came up to me and introduced yourself as Scratch42, I'd say Hey, it's nice to meet you. If you came up and said, Hi, I'm Janet, I'd think, ok, I know that name, but who are they again.

And, I'm already questioning whether I got your name right?!?!??!

I don't know - I'm kinda shy. :) Ok I'm not shy with this group but just like many of us I'm really shy in person.

I know what you mean! I'm shy too but I feel "at home" with this group. It will be great to put names and faces together in two short weeks!

So much to do! Places to go! People to see!

Me too!

If you get that look from me, just tell me your DIS name and it should make the connection. Although Ilene, yours is pretty obvious -- a lot like Diana's (although Diana does prefer the Lyn part left off).

Amy is right, there are several of us who are actually shy in real life. Even knowing a lot of people on this thread, I will still get that anxious, nervous feeling when we first meet up. I do it all the time, even when I'm seeing someone who I see more frequently than once a year -- like Mary & Amy. That's just how I am. I also worry that we will be late for everything and anything.

I know what you mean Ilene. The first meet I attended was the Member Home Coming. I met Mary and Mark who were so nice but I was shy and didn't really talk to anyone else. Throughout the event I saw several people wearing their DIS buttons but felt funny just walking up to them and saying, "Do I know you?"

Tom will talk to anyone but I'm usually quiet.

I was thinking the same thing. Should I bring a cheat sheet? And then I remembered that the buttons have our DIS name and real name so that will make it easier for us.

Cindy - funny story. Tom doesn't post here but lurks over my shoulder or I'll read him a post or ask him to come look at something. Well, last night he said I see these boys all the time. By the time we get to the ship I'm going to say, "Hey, I know you two!" and they'll probably run away thinking who is this strange man! I started to laugh but thought he's probably right! He sees your boys in your posts all the time and knows them by sight like many of us do but they'll probably be like - who are all these people!! :rotfl:

Quiet Type!!
Some of the top 10 posters on this thread said they were the "Quiet Type". I'll never believe someone when they say that ever again! :lmao: :lmao:
I'm with you there, Stacy!!

Oh, Cindy.......the "original" quiet type.....
