Hi everyone. I'm still trying to catch up (I'm on page 1271) but wanted to post this now in case I don't get caught up by Thursday. I am went in for my yearly exam two weeks ago and got "squished." All you ladies, and probably most of the guys, know what I mean. Yesterday I got a call to come back in on Thursday for a follow up ultrasound. Apparently, all is not as it should be. I do have a family history of breast cancer (mom and sis) so this is a scary time for me. Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. :sad1:

Mary - thoughts and prayers are with you! Currently, there are three women in my department who are all in different stages of breast cancer. My family also has a history of this disease - both my grandmother and sister. pixiedust: I hope everything goes well on Thursday.

Hugs to you Jacqui, sorry to hear about your families dog. I like the idea of adopting an animal at the zoo in memory of your golden - what a nice idea.

Diana pixiedust: to you that you find comfort in your decision for Penny, even though it will be a very hard decision.

We had to put our beloved golden retriever down today. He was 15 and had developed multiple organ failure (or cancer) etiher way it would have cost about $700 just to diagnose the problem but at his age the outcome was inevitable. Thankfully he did not suffer and lived a great life but the pain of the loss is unbearable.

My boys are crushed (DH and the DS's) and I do not know how to cheer them up. I know the cruise will help but any ideas (any good movies out there I can take them to?) to help them through it would be great. This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving so we get an extra day to do things. I plan on doing a scrapbook page once the pain subsides--things are still too raw.

Pixie dust and prayers to Mary.

Jacqui

Jacqui, I am so sorry to hear about your golden. We also have a 10 year old dalmation that is starting to show her age. She has troubles walking some days and others she can jump up onto the bed with no problems. She is still a sweet dog and the girls love her.

Diana, I am so sorry to hear about your dog too. My heart is breaking for you because I know we will be in the same situation in the next few years. pixiedust:

Mary, we will keep you in our prayers. My sister works in x-ray and said it is not unusual to get a call back when you have a mammogram. I hope that is all this is for you, just the need to clarify something on the first view. You know you have all your Dis friends praying for you. Hang in there.

Yanks score!!! 2-0!!

ETA--Oops, sorry 3-0!!!

Let's not get overly confident now Ms. Diana
Even though it's 5 to 3 NY in the fifth, the game is far from over

What are you all wearing for dress up night? I usually wear dress Capri's with a sweater set or a skirt with a nice shirt for dinner. Then DH and kids wear khakis and golf shirts. Will they need a button down dress shirt? Will I need a nice dress? Thanks for any help here.

Jaqui - I feel so bad! We had to put our cat down in 2000. She had lymphoma and was only 10.5 years old. I have to say it was one of the worst days in all of our lives. There are no words that can make the pain go away but the boys should know that your golden is in a much better place and is not suffering. This will be a hard time for all of you but I think it's a great idea to make a scrapbook. It may even be good for each of your boys to contribute a page or two to the book when they are feeling better. :grouphug: to all of you! There are also several books that you may want to check out on the loss of a pet. I'm so sorry for your losss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You post hit me hard and got me crying. I feel terrible for you and your family.

I was having this conversation with Stacy today and haven't shared about it on the thread. My Penny is 13 and we're trying to put her down before we leave. She's just gone downhill pretty fast, she's deaf, just about blind, can barely walk most days, she's starting to become pretty agressive, especially when it comes to food and has just about lost her mind. She cannot climb up and down the 3 steps to outside but she tries to jump on the kitchen table while we are having dinner. We called the vet yesterday to get the info and we're working on picking a date. I can't say she would survive the 10 days in boarding because she'll be too confused being out of her element and I know she won't survive the winter months and won't be able to go outside in the snow and ice.

It's so hard because it's like losing a family member.....my thoughts are with you.

Oh my goodness Diana! I'm sorry that you are also going through this! :grouphug: I know what a difficult decision this will be for you. Penny is and always will be a member of your family. As I said above, Princess was 10.5 when we pur her down and that was 6.5 years ago. When Shawn went away to college in 2004 he took a picture of Princess with him. He said she will always have a place in his heart! My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult decision. pixiedust:

Those clothes sound just fine for "dress-up" night. Like I said, I really didn't see much different in what people were wearing for dress-up night over any other cruise casual night.

I think any of what you are describing is appropriate. I usually wear a casual dress because I don't like to wear pants, but many women wear capris. Golf shirts and khakis are appropriate for guys. Some guys prefer to wear the button down shirt for Tritons because it's the dressiest of the 3 restaurants. I make my DH wear a tie that night (and I mean kicking and screaming!) b/c we try to do at least one nice dressy picture on the cruise.

There's always some people that really dress up and some people that really dress down. Most people dress exactly the way you are describing, but no matter what you won't feel out of place.

So sorry for your loss. Pets are a part of the family and it is very painful when you have to put them down. I had to take a day off when our pet died a couple years ago. I can still remember how difficult that day was. Hang in there, time helps the pain.

Jacqui, hugs to you and your family. I know that must have been a hard decision to make even though it's for the best. Making scrapbook pages to remember the good times you shared as a family - because I know pets are very much family members - is a great way to ease the pain, if even just a little.

There is a new Robin Williams movie where he is a comic who runs for president. ANYTHING (comedy wise) with Robin Williams is good for a laugh.

Karen and I send our thoughts to you (even in the top of the 7th)
