We had to put our beloved golden retriever down today. He was 15 and had developed multiple organ failure (or cancer) etiher way it would have cost about $700 just to diagnose the problem but at his age the outcome was inevitable. Thankfully he did not suffer and lived a great life but the pain of the loss is unbearable.

My boys are crushed (DH and the DS's) and I do not know how to cheer them up. I know the cruise will help but any ideas (any good movies out there I can take them to?) to help them through it would be great. This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving so we get an extra day to do things. I plan on doing a scrapbook page once the pain subsides--things are still too raw.

Jacqui - hugs to you and your family. Do you have a local zoo you can go to? I know our zoo (Brookfield) has animals you can adopt (you pay so much per year and it goes to their care). Maybe your family can adopt an animal in memory of your golden.

Jacqui - I am so sorry for your families loss. I am dreading that day here. We have a 11 year old cat and a soon to be 11 year old dalmatian (who lives with my father in law now). Last summer we lost my cats brother. We do not know what happened to him and when DH went out to the car one morning he was just laying by my truck. Nick took it very hard and he went with me to the vets to have him cremated. Once we got his ashes back, Nick slept with the box for a week. It wil take some time but the saddness will ease and the funny memories will push forward. You know those moments where you felt like he was the worst dog in the world..... those are now humorous remember whens....

I will keep you in my prayer.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You post hit me hard and got me crying. I feel terrible for you and your family.

I was having this conversation with Stacy today and haven't shared about it on the thread. My Penny is 13 and we're trying to put her down before we leave. She's just gone downhill pretty fast, she's deaf, just about blind, can barely walk most days, she's starting to become pretty agressive, especially when it comes to food and has just about lost her mind. She cannot climb up and down the 3 steps to outside but she tries to jump on the kitchen table while we are having dinner. We called the vet yesterday to get the info and we're working on picking a date. I can't say she would survive the 10 days in boarding because she'll be too confused being out of her element and I know she won't survive the winter months and won't be able to go outside in the snow and ice.

It's so hard because it's like losing a family member.....my thoughts are with you.

Thanks--that is a great idea--we have a great zoo in Toronto and I am pretty sure they have an adoption type of program. Since it is a long weekend, we will have time to visit.

Once we get on board, you are always welcome to ask the head waiter if your tables could be combined. Sadly, the just wouldn't let me request it ahead of time but there might be a chance that they will accommodate if asked in person.

Oh Diana - prayers for you, your family and Penny too!!! It is just SO hard to put a pet down, even though you know it's the best for them. We had to put down my beloved Maine Coon cat and no one in my family could do it, so Chris, bless his heart, brought Ali in to the vet that day. (that's why my userid is alikat, after my cat Ali)

Sandy - The Buffalo airport has an airpark across the street from the airport for like 7.50 a day. They shuttle you right over. The road in front of the airport is all torn up and there are detours so leave 10 minutes to get around it.

OK - I have a dumb question.....Is there a formal night this cruise? I am thinking there is as 4 days do but with the change of itinerary I thought that might change. If so, what night? Are all the other evenings smart casual?
How dressed up is everyone getting for the formal night...long gowns?

Since this is a 4-night cruise, there is no Formal Night. They do have a "dress-up" night, but I didn't see much difference between dress-up night and any other night. Some people do dress a little nicer in Tritons.

Hi everyone. I'm still trying to catch up (I'm on page 1271) but wanted to post this now in case I don't get caught up by Thursday. I am went in for my yearly exam two weeks ago and got "squished." All you ladies, and probably most of the guys, know what I mean. Yesterday I got a call to come back in on Thursday for a follow up ultrasound. Apparently, all is not as it should be. I do have a family history of breast cancer (mom and sis) so this is a scary time for me. Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.
