Yup, come on---doesn't everyone have their SSMC06 book done?? :rolleyes2

I'm distracted and exhausted. Emma's preschool teacher called this afternoon to schedule a home visit. HOME VISIT??? This is preschool we aren't adopting a child, we're sending one off to school!! :scared: She said she likes to come and visit with the kids one on one so they get to know her a little bit outside the school setting and aren't intimidated. Alrighty. Emma is dying to go to school. I know she'd be perfectly happy with me dropping her at the curb and pulling away if I could. Can this teacher visit be optional? :lmao:

So I'm a nervous wreck because I just know no matter how clean the house is, or how well presented we are that seconds before this lady arrives the girls are going to fight--there will be bruises or worse---blood on the floor, tears, punches, hair pulling. UGH!! I get all worked up because after all those years of being taught by nuns, any religious figure sends me into a complete tailspin.

Well, now, that just sounds like loads of fun! I can understand getting to know the kids before hand, but our kids teachers scheduled a pre-meet at the school. It was only 10 minutes long, they worked on their first coloring project which was hung up in the hallway outside their class for the first day while the teacher and I reviewed the emergency information and finalized the paperwork.

I would be very nervous as you know kids never act on their best behavior when they have an audience. Is that visit today? Good luck when ever it is! pixiedust:

Question for all you scrapbookers...................

What do you need to start scrapbooking? Since I will now have my own space and DD doesn't want her desk and I have room...........And looking at all the wonderful pages........... :goodvibes

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!

j

I actually started out with one of those kits you see in the store with everything you need to do a complete scrapbook. Then I bought some adhesive and a paper trimmer.

Ok, here's what you do. Straighten up a bit (dont' leave 1/2 eaten food on the couch) and when the teacher gets there, apologize up front for how the house looks....then say something like "I'm sorry, I had a choice to either vacuum or play a game with the girls, and since these girls are only little once, I decided to play a game. The dirt will be there tomorrow." :lmao:

That 'excuse' is already a standard part of my MO! GMTA! :lmao:

Yup, she'll be here at 10. That's why I'm expecting some sort of catastrope or blood bath. :lmao:

I have a question for all you CJ'ers. If you don't mind sharing, what's the theme/topic of your CJ? Curious minds want to know.

Gosh, it's been so long since I worked on mine and did the actual work at Mary's house, that I'm not exactly sure what my theme was. I believe it was along the same lines of the cruise -- Happiest Memories, Magical Memories, something like that.

Mary, I think you have my book, am I right? :rotfl2:

I was WOW'd with each book I opened to work on. I still have MaryJ's to finish and then we're returning them to the owners on SSMC06. I can't wait to see everyones finished books. :cool1:

One thing I just read in VM (page 24) - They will be taping WDW Christmas Day Parade this year. It will air on December 25 but tapings are currently scheduled to take place December 1 - 3 at MK and DVC members will have an opportunity to be part of the live audience. More information will follow.

Hmmm! I wonder if we could sneak in a quick trip before the holidays! Then again, I wonder if rooms would even be available at this late date! Oh yeah, I've used all of my points for this year and have already borrowed some of next year's so I guess this wouldn't work! Oh well! Have a good day everyone. I'm off to work!

I saw that about the Christmas parade! I also saw the photo contest they are holding and wished the deadline was after the cruise so we can submit pics of us all together so DVC can see the great friendships made. :grouphug:

:surfweb: Good Morning Everyone,

Have been on for a few since 7am but I had some bills to pay. But now I'm done and on the desk today so I'll be lurking with the rest of the weekday crew listening to DisRadio.

Have a good Wednesday all!

Wow! We really are getting close to two big milestones - 15,000 posts and 1,000 pages. I'm sure we'll get there today.

Mail Alerts - Did anyone else receive their Vacation Magic yesterday? I just noticed it on the kitchen counter. We also received a new Refer a Friend flyer too. This is similar to what DVC did earlier in the year. Refer a friend and receive a $50 Disney Gift Card. You can receive up to $200 in GCs. The good news is that the gift cards can be redeemed at select merchandise, ticketing, food and entertainment locations at DL and WDW. They can even be used aboard DCL or Disneyshopping.com and Disney Stores throughout the US. This is a much better deal than last year since there are more ways to redeem them. Last year it was only online at Disneyshopping.com.

I am SO hoping that the family who is flying down and back up with us in October end up buying into DVC. I know they have already requested a information packet and we have made reservations for them at SSR for their week. I'm hoping that actually staying in the villas themselves is enough of a push to make the leap. They are now a family of 5 so their options are going to be limited once the baby is 3 (she's only a couple months now).

Not a problem!!! And you can order anything you want!

Well we have Nick's bookback all ready to go. I'm just nervous about him taking the bus because he hasn't really riddena school bus. He did for a little bit when he was in k-2 but my parents lived literally live about 200 yards from the elementary school that he went to so he walked to school rain, sleet or snow, so today could be interesting.
I just hope he remembers his bus route number and where to get off. He has so many new things to remember in the next couple of days. New homeroom number, locker number and combination, pin number for the lunchroom, and bus route number! :faint:

I'm just glad we don't live in Western NY right now. When the kids go to school they will be in lockdown because of the fugitive the State Police are looking for

Good luck Nick. pixiedust: It's scary when they change schools. I'm sure he'll do better than Mom today.

Need or want. Big difference to me. I have a bunch of stuff that I've collected that I know I won't use -- those stickers do me in everytime I'm in the scrapbook store, although it seems like a lot of scrappers are getting away from using stickers.

You could start with an album and maybe some cardstock to mat your pictures on and a good pair of scissors.

If you find a scrapbook store by you and wander in, you'll find everything you need to get started in one of them. I have so many stickers, it's amazing. I will never use a lot of them but they are so tempting to collect. Even Michael's & Joanne's have tons of scrapbooking items.

You could add on during the cruise, that might solve part of your dilemma.

That whole fugitive thing scares me to no end. On our way home from Six Flags we saw the procession of troopers going out to to meet the casket that was being flown home. There must have been 50 cars. It was so sad. Then Bruce found out yesterday that the trooper's dad used to work for him. :guilty:

I can't even read the stories in the paper anymore. I was reading sunday & mondays paper and they talked about the 2 trropers that he shot and I just tear up.
I'm thinking they find that guy in the woods somewhere and he doesn't make it out alive. And did you see some in his hometown think he's some kind of hero!? :confused3 Are you kidding me! someone who steals, breaks out of jail and shoots 3 State Troopers killing one of them...oh yea he's a hero...NOT!!!!!

Here is my downer post for the day...

The worst duty that I perform is standing at funerals. A man or woman that I have never met, went to work one day and gave their life because some schmuck didn't get to do what he(she) wanted to. This punk in NY is a career thief. He is the prime suspect in a third police related shooting and the break in of a gun shop where 41 weapons were stolen. This fool has had nothing better to do with life than take things from hard working people who have what he wants. Good luck to the NYSP! (putting away my soapbox)

Cindy - I do have your circle jounal. You theme was "Happiest Celebration At Sea" and you asked everyone to create a two page spread showing one of the highlights of your cruise.

Janet - you've gotten some good advice. If you have any hobby stores in your area (like Michael's) or a dedicated scrapbooking store check with them about starter classes. Also if you watch QVC the usually have scrapbook days or hours from time to time and include complete sets.

I'm a sucker for stickers and embellishments as well.

I started with Mickey book, paper and stuff from my local store.

On mj cj I used the Happiest Celebration on Earth set

My theme is/was characters.

Thanks Everybody!

As soon as I finish with the packing/moving/setting up I'll head over to my Michael's store and see what they have!

The local Dollar Store has started stocking Scrapbooking stuff!

It looks like I will have a new hobby!

Hope I can get as good as some of your works!

j

Janet I hope you'll consider joining the circle journal for this cruise. The books we use are small (most are in the 8x8 range) and the commitment is only one spread (two pages) per month. It is a great way to share memories but also a great way to see all the techniques eveyone uses. I've really enjoyed being part of the SSMC05 one and plan on doing the one for SSMC06.

Cindy - we added on last year during SSMC05. I don't think I can afford to do it again. Unless of course the offer is too good to refuse! :goodvibes

No need to put away your soap box. Police and fire personnel put their lives on the line every day. I sometimes think we are too soft on criminals and that's why a lot of this stuff goes on. Sometimes I think we should be more like other countries who state "an eye for an eye". Maybe that would deter some of these punks from doing what they do!

I never thought of checking the Dollar Store for supplies. I'll have to make a trip there. I can't wait to see what all of the CJs look like. That may motivate me even more to join in.

Good morning from DL!

I was chatting with a few of the CMs at the DVC kiosks last evening while walking around DD here at DL. A bit of news for the rumor mill - seems that Jim Lewis and other big shirts from either DVC or Disney are also staying here at GC. There's meetings going on this week and an announcement is supposed to be coming up in Oct. No word on a DL DVC or they won't say so but I did get that little tidbit from a few of the CMs last night.
Just thought I would share a bit of news today - I'm going to get ready to do some park hopping today - have a great day! :sunny:

This has probably already been answered by our early birds, but here's my recommendation for starting out.

Get yourself a good/sharp pair of straight-edge scissors, a ruler, and adhesive of some sort. You'll need to decide what size album you want to start with. Of course you don't have to stick with just one size. You'll also want some cardstock which you can pick up in individual sheets or in multi-color packs. It's not necessary, but a paper trimmer also comes in handy. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few basics but never fear, scrappers are alway willing to help and spread addiction.

You can find all this stuff at general craft stores like Michael's or Joann's, dedicated scrapbook stores - you'll see people refer to them as LSS (Local Scrapbook Store), or even online.

Don't be intimidated at all. Everyone starts somewhere and over time your comfort level and style changes. I know lots of people hate their first pages/albums and go back to redo them. I think it's great to see how I've evolved so I'll never do that. Here's my very first album. I cut the heck out of my photos, used way too many stickers, and the color choices on some of the pages make me want to puke now. But I love this album because it was the beginning of my obsession.
