Sorry to hear you couldn't make it to the top. You were smart to turn around though because if you made it to the top you may not have been comfortable to drive back down and that would've been even worse for you.

I would love to see the Grand Canyon, but I think it would do me in.

When we drove to Hilton Head, it was a toss up. I have never decided which was worse, me driving though the mountains or Gary driving through the mountains.

I just knew if I was driving, I'd kill us. And, being I drove like a turtle, if I didn't do it, one of the other cars driving by me (at the speed limit, no less) would rear end us and push us right off the side.

And, if Gary was driving, I knew he was going to kill us. He would drive the speed limit and then do me in when he'd say to the kids, look at the mountains over there or at the side. :scared:

We finally came to a compromise the last two years we drove. Gary drove, I sat in the passenger seat, white knuckling anything I could hold on to, with my feet firmly planted on the floor in a "braced" position and I would stare at my feet. I was torture!! I wouldn't say a word, Gary wouldn't say a word, the kids wouldn't say a word, because anything anyone would say would cause our car to be even more tense than it already way.

It's so much easier now that we fly. ::yes::

Right.

I'm sure she'll stop in for a visit soon. :)

Being described so recently as an "adult kid" was closer than you know. I CAN'T STAND IT ANY LONGER!!!

The CHALLENGE begins TOMORROW!!

This is so true. Same here when I was looking for a new car and wanted an SUV I went to the auto show in NY a year before buying. I found three cars that were comfortable to sit in and researched them online. When I test drove each of them I found what I drive now to be my favorite I have ever driven, the Toyota Matrix (Pontiac Vibe is the same car different maker). I have taken a lot of heat for buying it because it's not what a single guy should be driving especially in Florida, they say I should drive a convertible, but I'm perfectly happy with that car. Noone complains when I can stuff four more in after a night of drinking or need a bigger car to help move stuff in. Bottom line is I'm happy with it and am real happy now with gas prices where they are, it's a 4 cylinder wagon that comes in 2 or 4 wheel drive but is slip and grip.

We certainly didn't complain the night you gave us a ride to our rental in the MGM parking lot, when it was downpouring like no tomorrow. I know both of my kids, as well as myself, christened the seats with our wetness. :umbrella: :umbrella: :umbrella:

Thanks again, Jeff.

You should see Karen on bridges. Thank god there is a tunnel into Canada from here and don't even mention the time we drove over the Mackinaw Bridge:scared1: .

The other thing you have to just roll about is since I have a certain driving style:drive: that carries over from my employment, Karen doesn't like riding with me. I have a Ford Ranger, the door handle on the passenger side is so loose it rattles. She's taken to sitting on her hands now :scared::eek::crazy2::faint:
It's these little quirks in life you gotta love!!

Count me in as a Survivor and Amazing Race fan! I'll be watching too. :happytv:

We haven't seen Amazing Race....yet.

But Cameron & I watched Survivor the other night for the first time. Cameron wanted to know the next night if it was on again. I think it's going to be our show this season.

Gary's cousin was on one of the first or second season. We've never even seen that. I should rent it from netflix this winter. I hear she's one of the most disliked participants -- Jerry Manthey -- if anyone watched back then. I know my devout Catholic MIL & Gary's Aunt's were very proud of their neice when she later posed for an adult magazine.

Tunnels!!! :scared: :scared: :scared:

I'm convinced we're going to hit the side and cause the whole thing to collapse.

I suppose I should take this as a hint to never visit Mackinac Island. We did as a kid and I remember being in the back of the motor home with my Mom. Laying on the bed with pillows covering our heads. Hmmm, that's probably where my fears came from.

The girls had their first mini-meet today at gymnastics and did really well. They both made their cartwheel on the beam so they were happy. The coach wouldn't tell them all their scores so they have to wait until Monday for that. They each got to pick one score that they wanted to see and Brooke got a 9 on floor and Jessica had a 8.55 on beam. Those are great scores so everyone was happy. We went to Olive Garden after and now just watching the Michigan football game. :happytv:

Congrats to the girls!!! Next thing you know they'll be oon a box of wheaties.

I can't believe it, well I guess I can when you really think about it. you figure the thread started on the last cruise. we chatted about our strategy for getting onto this cruise and we have had new people join in so they had to get used to and ask questins of those that have doen it before. Heck we'll hit 20K posts easily!

Ok, I've posted enough for today, and I'm going to bed. We're heading to Disney tomorrow to visit with friends that used to live in Orlando and work for Disney. She moved to Atlanta a couple of years ago, but is back this week to visit, so we decided to head over there. Chris and the girls need haircuts too, so we'll head to the MK barbershop first, then over to BWV to visit my friend.

Sounds like fun!
Have a great time today!!

Here is something you don't see everyday -- The inside of a traffic cop's mind, once you get past the cobwebs and the KK deposits that is...

I don't live to write tickets, I don't have a quota, there are no contests (at least where I am) to see who can write the most. In some cases you feel bad writing a ticket, knowing full well that you have/had done this yourself some time in the past. So I don't write a lot of seatbelt tickets. The last one I DID write though was when a car blew a stop sign in front of me and as I pulled in behind to do the traffic stop the child in the back seat stood up, turned around and waved at me (granted using all of her fingers - you'd be surprised at how often that is NOT the case). Grandma got a warning for the stop sign and the ticket for the seatbelt violations. I had NO problem writing that coupon ($100 off your next paycheck).

I think that should have been a heftier fine but that's just my opinion. It kills my how some people can be so aloof about the safety of a child.

This is slighty off topic but still having to do with children. Nick's class is doing a campout next week and I'm chaperoning. Well I went to an informational meeting the other day about it and the teacher in charge says they have tents for most everyone to sleep in and their will be an adult/teacher in the tent with the kids.
Well that was a big red flag for me. Maybe I've been in Cub/Boy Scouts to long but that is not done at all. The adults NEVER sleep in a tent with a child unless it is their own and even then they encourage the kids to sleep together for the kids to be independent.
So I decided to call the teacher and let him know I will be bringing my own tent and I'm not comfortable sleeping in a tent with someone else child. He replies that he has had some parents say they were happy an adult is going to be in the tent with their child. Ok whatever but not me.
I mention that it just takes one child to say he/she touched me and their could be big problems, his theory was that there will be other kids in the tent to back up the story if anything happens! I felt like saying are you kidding me!
He then mentions this summer adventure program he runs and says he has high school and college kids in the tents with the younger kids and never had a problem. I was glad to hear he never had a problem but I don't think Nick will ever be doing that over the summer. We'll just stick with scouts thanks.

Sorry that was long...off my soapbox now...thanks for listening!

Amy have a great time today...how can you not :thumbsup2

So FIVE weeks, eh? Yeah I'm soooo ready!

Scrapbooking question...if I want to put modpodge type stuff over my paint can to make it shiny and so the pieces stick down better, how do I avoid getting brush streaks? Do the foam brushes leave marks or bubbles?

Well it's off to the Grand Canyon this am. And I'm planning on watching Amazing Race tonight. I loved the first Survivor this past Thursday. Loving Survivor so far. I picked the winning team. Having it race based in the
beginning is very interesting to me. I think it will put some stereotypes to rest. The only thing I didn't like is that Hispanics, Asians and Blacks have some cultural similarities. Whites really isn't a cultural group that way, racial yes but not cultural. So it's not really good that way. The
white tribe is a very sad one I think. It will be interesting to see how it all
pans out. In the end it won't matter much because it's one on one but in the beginning I think the more solidarity in the culture the stronger the group will be. I know alot of you watch BB, do any of you watch Survivor or AR?

I've used the foam brushes with the Modpodge and didn't have a problem. Just don't keep dunking the brush back and forth into the mod podge so it won't put air into the bottle and cause the bubbles (I hope that made sense)

I consider and looked at the Vibe & Matrix when we were shopping for a new car but I went with the Chevy HHR. It just had a bit more storage room in the back which is great for holding our camping gear.

Yes, I watch Surivivor until I get dis-interested in the season. Rupert hooked me in his first season.

Stace,

No apologies or soapbox required!! That is common sense! Ask this teacher to come to a casino with you some time because he is obviously one lucky sun of a gun. What scares me the most out of THAT story is the part where he said that there we plenty of parents willing to sleep in the same tent as the kids.

I'm sorry parent like DisSers - I mean no disrespect, you are all good parents. BUT I'm a cynic there are too many people out there that ARE NOT like you. 20 years ago try to convince somebody that the parrish priest was less than honorable. Sad days in this modern world...
