what's all this about a Pirate Party? Please fill me in. Do we need costumes?

Warmly,
Ilene

There are some people that get completely decked out in full pirate costumes. Most others just where the bandana that DCL provides:

All the servers are dressed like pirates, so are the characters you encounter during the evening.

Later at night, after dinner, there is a deck party with Pirates, Capt. Hook, Fireworks, more food and fun!

  • What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?
I thought it was a great follow up to the SSMC05 I booked.
  • Are you hoping that DVC offers some exclusive merchandise for sale again?
Hmm... rumor has it that it's a good thing someone's selling merchandise online with the Disboard SSMC06 logo. :rolleyes1
  • What do you think makes DIS DVC'ers different from other DVC'ers?
Camaraderie, genuine friendships, and a common sense of ownership and pride in DVC

David - you were teasing us with that first answer. I thought for a minute you were really going with us. Based on your second answer it sounds like there won't be much in the way of merchandise. Too bad! As for your last answer I think you hit that one right on the head! Are you sure you don't want to get on the waiting list for this cruise. We'd love to have you guys join us!

What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise? I was on the first two Member Cruises, so I figure 3rd time is the charm! Plus, we have made so many wonderful friends, I couldn't imagine not going.

What excursions are you looking at for Castaway Cay? Stingrays and Banana Boat

Are you hoping that DVC offers some exclusive merchandise for sale again? Heck Ya. But I read David's response already.

If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why? MK. It holds so many special memories for me.

Are you planning any time before or after the cruise at WDW? If so when. Friday and Saturday night before cruise at SSR (for now, waitlisted for BCV and BWV) then Thursday and Friday night after the cruise at BCV.

What do you think makes DIS DVC'ers different from other DVC'ers? We're family! :sunny:

Whoah! After the morning we've had around here, I'll finally try and catch up. It looks like things have been hopping here. :Pinkbounc

  • What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise? How could I not. SSMC05 was a blast. Sadly, I know this will be our last time doing a member event as a family for several years as our oldest is heading to jr. high after next year. Being we won't take him out during the school year and DVC tends to book these member events during the school year, I know it might be our last until Walker graduates highschool in 2018!! :sad2:
  • What excursions are you looking at for Castaway Cay? Banana Boats. Cameron & Gary are doing parasailing. And Gary, Cameron & Walker are doing the sting rays. For me, does drinking Konk Koolers count as an excursion? :rotfl2:
  • Are you hoping that DVC offers some exclusive merchandise for sale again? We will definately purchase any DVC tshirts offered. We bought the excursion bag last time and still haven't found a good use for it so I guess the rest of my answer is it depends on what might be offered.
  • If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why? Gosh, only one? Am I with my kids or alone? With my kids, it would probably be EPCOT as Mission Space is a favorite. If I'm alone, it's defintately the MK!
  • Are you planning any time before or after the cruise at WDW? If so when. We fly down late Friday before the cruise and leave late Friday after the cruise. So, time at the parks will be limited. But, now I have a quick weekend trip booked in August for me & the kids so we'll be able to hit our favorites then. :cheer2:
  • What do you think makes DIS DVC'ers different from other DVC'ers? To me, it seems like we have a better understanding of the ins and outs of the program. I could be wrong but it seems like we find things out and share them here much quicker than through MS. And, I've met some great friends here who are DVC Members as well! :cool1:

[*]What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?

Cause the other 2 cruises were so great and I met great friends

[*]What excursions are you looking at for Castaway Cay?
None

[*]Are you hoping that DVC offers some exclusive merchandise for sale again?
Yes!

[*]If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why?
MGM, I love the muppets and Streetmosphere

[*]Are you planning any time before or after the cruise at WDW? If so when.
Yes before and maybe after

[*]What do you think makes DIS DVC'ers different from other DVC'ers?
a community of friends that I can chat with.

Gail - I'm glad you mentioned the bikes. I know Cindy did the bikes last year. They have a new bike trail open on the island and they are building an observation tower on it. The bike trail starts about 1/2 way down the runway to the adult beach and goes in a big loop. Mark took it so I'll let him share the details with you. I think it is a nice addition for those who like to ride.

Good to know. Because what they offered last year as far as a ride wasn't much of anything and I know my kids are planning on doing it again.

I hope the observation tower is open in October! :cool1:

We did the bikes on the 1st Member Cruise, so it will be nice to have an new path to take. Would like to hear more about the observation tower - Hey, Mark are you out there?

Just a word of caution: Anyone riding a bike and would like to take a picture of the plane at the end of the runway - do not try to take the picture while still riding your bike :rotfl2: Sorry Carol, I just had to say that :teeth:

Gee, Carol, do you have a story to share?

I'll provide another bike riding tip. The (old) path goes right along the other side of the adult beach. So, as your riding along, keep in mind of who might be at the adult beach listening to you yell at your kids as they are trying to knock you off of your bike. :p

What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?
It's a DVC DOUBLE DIP!!! (ok and the week before the wedding)

What excursions are you looking at for Castaway Cay?
Banana boats all the way  and getting a good tan

Are you hoping that DVC offers some exclusive merchandise for sale again?
Sounds like they are not going to - which is a real bummer - so YES we'd like that

If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why?
MGM - it's our park!

Are you planning any time before or after the cruise at WDW? If so when.
Yes, one night before and the entire week and a half following. We're staying BWV before (waitlist at BCV) and then Yacht Club and Contemporary after.

What do you think makes DIS DVC'ers different from other DVC'ers?
Fun family friendly - oh and we love to :dance3:

Cindy - that is sad! I know it's a personal decision but I just wanted to mention that my parents took me out of school each year all the way through high school for 2 - 3 days during the week of Thanksgiving and I did manage to keep up and become a decent citizen (hey no comments from the nut gallery)... so maybe some day if DVC doesn't change things you will be able to join in again!

Gosh, Julie. What will you ever do with that extra week & 1/2 at WDW??

As much as we are all excited about the cruise, you must be jumping out of your skin with excitement between both the cruise & the wedding. :woohoo:

What is the correct Itinerary?

When I log into disneycruise.com, I see this:

Day 1 - Port Canaveral - Sunday, October 22, 2006
Day 2 - Nassau - Monday, October 23, 2006
Day 3 - Castaway Cay - Tuesday, October 24, 2006
Day 4 - At Sea - Wednesday, October 25, 2006
Day 5 - Port Canaveral - Thursday, October 26, 2006

But, when I looked at my packet yesterday, I remember seeing:

Day 1 - Port Canaveral - Sunday, October 22, 2006
Day 2 - Castaway Cay - Monday, October 23, 2006
Day 3 - At Sea - Tuesday, October 24, 2006
Day 4 - Castaway Cay- Wednesday, October 25, 2006
Day 5 - Port Canaveral - Thursday, October 26, 2006

(I don't have my packet with me, so I can't verify)

Julie, time will tell. I guess until Cameron gets there, I won't know if the horror stories I've heard are true or not. :scared:

Did you notice, though, that I said it would be our last "family" event? So, that does mean that maybe some of us will go with the non-restricted child -- meaning, Walker doesn't go into jr. high until 2013! :) So, maybe, just maybe, Gary & I will trade off taking Walker down for DVC events if it doesn't work going as a family. :cool1:

Thanks! Unfortuntely, they won't be on this cruise with us. The school policy here is extremely strict, so we can't take my 5 YO out of Kindergarten. Since it is my wife's birthday a week before we sail, this is our time away to celebrate. We do, however already have a Dec 2007 Seven night booked with the kids!

Looks like your boys are just slightly older than ours?

Here's what's still posted on the DVC member site:

Scheduled Itinerary*

Sunday: Set sail from Port Canaveral, Florida
Monday: Arrive at Castaway Cay, Disney's private island paradise
Tuesday: Experience Member-exclusive events during a full day at sea
Wednesday: Return to Castaway Cay
Thursday: Return to Port Canaveral
*Itinerary is subject to change without notice.

Walker turned 6 in February. Cameron will be 12 in October.

If you and your wife get bored without the kids, let us know. We'll rent Walker out for the afternoon or evening. :lmao:

Well, since it is listed like that on both DVC website and in the packet I received, that must be the correct one. I guess the Disney Cruise page is wrong....they probably just took the itinerary from the standard 4 night cruise. They just better fix it before July when we can book excursions...otherwise, the dates and location of the excursions will be wrong!

We'd love to have you guys join us!

While we'd love to go, we've used our points to sail in September for 7nts and our 4nts at WDW on either end. Besides, I'm 99.9% sure I couldn't get the time off from work - as it is, my team will be strained for the two weeks I'll be gone in September.

Will hasn't sailed on the DM before. He was on it 3/12/05 when we participated in a photo shoot for DVC (look at the DCL photo book at the Info Desk, DK4 MID); we're in the pictures of the Member events. :cool2: As an inaugural Crew Member, the DM has a special place in my heart that I want to share with him.

If there's a SSMC07, we'll give it consideration after hearing back from you on this year's experience. Having orchestrated last year's event, I would feel compelled to either pitch and work the event or make suggestions on how I might have done it - not the most ideal situation when you're on vacation.

Any chance you'd want to come to WDW on 9/16 for a few nights? We're dining at CA Grill on 9/18, 8:30pm advanced reservations, so we can see Wishes! from the 15th floor - another first for Will.

David :earsboy:

Time for this fly to come off the wall again…

Hello all,

First off à Amy, hope all is well. Reports that we’re getting is Alberto is just providing needed rain, but no real damage. Hope this to be the case.

(2) Steve (Fireplug): Have you seen the advertisements for the Firefighter train set? If not, are you interested? Looks like a 19th century 4-4-0 steam engine, but don’t quote me on that. I just received and advertisement for the engine, two cars and some trackage. If this sounds like something for you, PM and I’ll send a scan or webaddress.

Now for the Krazy Kruiser questions…

  • What is your name? Curt
  • Where do you live? ‘Burb of Detroit, MI.
  • Where were you born? ‘burg of Chicago. Oak Park, IL. Lived in Berwyn.
  • My favorite food is? Pizza
  • Last night for dinner I ate? Pot Pie over rice, yum!
  • I hope to someday improve my ____? Weight
  • Nobody knows that I _____? Am not really that funny or is there something you people haven’t told me?
  • The worst advice my mother or father ever gave me was ____? This is a tough one, I KNOW they were wrong about something….
  • The one thing I can't stand in people is _____? Common courtesy. A please, thank-you or excuse me will go miles with me.

Round TWO
  • What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise? Karen and I love DVS and all things Disney. Meeting all the Dis’sers was a very pleasant side effect.
  • What excursions are you looking at for Castaway Cay? Snorkeling and the Banana boats.
  • Are you hoping that DVC offers some exclusive merchandise for sale again? Of course, DVC merchandise is never out of date. (We just have to find the money to pay for it.)
  • If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why? EPCOT. My favorite. I really enjoy the World Showcase. (Karen has a real thing for MGM and Fantasmic – but these are my answers)
  • Are you planning any time before or after the cruise at WDW? If so when. Yup, we fly in the day before for OKW and then we are staying after for the Halloween Party and the Food and Wine fest. Firsts for both of us!!
  • What do you think makes DIS DVC'ers different from other DVC'ers? Camaraderie, and the family spirit. (With examples of the good and the bad – like any family)

Well that seems to catch me up to date. Good wishes to all – until next time… {poof}
