2006 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC06 - October 22, 2006 Part 3

Afternoon all! It looks like our day of rain may be coming to an end but not for long. Predictions are for storms all week. :umbrella: It's going to be a long one as most places I travel with the daycare kids during the week are outside. A bunch of little wet ducks is not my idea of fun --- it may be their idea -- but then I have all the clean up to do so it's not an option.

Sorry we will miss you Marj - mini meets are fun. Just ask the Chicago crowd. (Even Cameron appeared to enjoy it - once he woke up!!:lmao: )

Amazing what a glass of chocolate milk will do. :cool1: I hope Cameron's eating something at camp -- neither Gary nor I asked what the food selections were for our picky eater.

This is the wife's business. We wish that there were more clients available so this could be her full time job. Karen is a brittle, Type 1 diabetic, and finding employers who are sympathic is a VERY tough thing to do. With the petsitting she has the ability to time her day around her "lazy pancreas" (wasn't that the right term?)

Me I work full time for the government, ominous isn't it.

Curt,
I do petsitting too! My business name is "Leash and Lead". I don't advertise and currently only do cats as just as soon as I established this little "business" I got offered the job of my dreams and since it's full time I can't get out and do the midday doggie walks. At this point I only have two clients and only pet sit about 3 times a year but I do like it and maybe after my present job becomes dull I can go back to it.

I have a question for those who pet sit or have had pet sitters. We are having one the end of next month come to care for Tony & the rabbits. Tony isn't an outside dog --- unless it's winter (guess that's the Eskimo part of him). So, I'm thinking that a visit 2 x a day is sufficient. I'm sure Tony would be fine going out once in the morning and once in the evening. But I don't know the business like you all do....so I'm wondering is there something I'm not thinking of for the middle of the day visit?

Stacy please pm me her address.

Jacqui would your son like to receive postcards from the people he will be cruising with? Maybe it would help him pass the time a little quicker.

Me too! :cool1:

I am going on july 7th to pick up Pirate pins and see the new ride.
Also staying at SSR the 1st -2nd in hopes of trying the new restaurant!

The local news this morning had a media reporter at DL - They covered the red carpet and such, looked really cool. They also had a teeny bit of footage from inside the ride with one of the actors looking at their animatronic double, and the lifelikeness was almost....creepy. Looked very cool.

I saw the pictures of the new animatronics on another site and it was creepy it was so similar!

AnnMarie - For GODS sake don't tell Karen what you paid. She AGONIZES over the airfare for MONTHS ahead of the trips. She'll buy a fare and then spend hours on the phone with NWA getting a price adjustment. Gotta love my little penny pincher!!

My pancreas pal and I have something in common! This is a funny story. Last month, I got a $59 each way for my Aug trip. Great deal, I booked it on a Tuesday. Well that Saturday, I got a $44 each way, but just for my trip from ALB to MCO. Well, $15 is $15, right? So I call SW and explain I just want to change my 8/24 flight from $59 to $44 the guy was so helpful, it seemed painless. So I hung up with him and opened my email to see my $74 credit with SW. :scared1: The guy cancelled my flight home too and only rebooked the flight down! So I immediately called back and the lady I got, while very helpful was unable to help me b/c all the $59 and $44 seats on the flight home were full. She tried, her supervisor tried. Nothing. :furious: So I had to wait until Monday to call Corporate Customer Care and have them rebook my flight for me at $59.

So Monday morning Bruce called me to make sure I got everything fixed. He then asked if all the time/anxiety/stress was worth the $15. :lmao: Hey $15 is almost 2 of those sandpail drinks at PI!!! :drinking1

Hope you have a good first day on the new job!

Thanks Gail

The first day was okay! I will give it a little more time. I am either burned out or I might really need to take the summer off. I wish there was a perfect job. Heck I want to win the Power Ball and never work again!:thumbsup2

Just catching up this am so not sure if this has been answered. It depends on YOUR dog. Some dogs do fine in the bathroom department but NEED to have the exercise or they cause mischief. I've done twice a day with my dog who passed away and he was fine. The two little ones I have now (they are 2yo next mo) need at least 4x/day, so like anything else it's very individual. We had a petsitter last month when we went to Seattle that STAYED here and that was the BEST. It was actually cheaper too, go figure. HTH.

Good morning everyone! Roxann glad to hear your first day was ok. I agree a perfect job would be no job but with income still coming in (like from Powerball). :lmao: Since I don't see that happening for me I guess I'll get ready for work!

Thanks, Ilene.

Based on that, I'm thinking Tony will be fine with the morning and night visits. A lot of times I have to coax him outside with a bribe of a treat. :rolleyes1 He'll look at me like, you go outside, I'm staying right here. At 9, he's really done chasing rabbits and squirrels in the yard --- but give him the excitement of an occassional bee to chase and he's happy as can be -- fortunately, he's never caught one of them.

Good morning everyone! Well, my niece is leaving today, and while it was fun having her here, I'll be happy to go back to only 2 children. We have a busy day today. We're going in the pool in about 1/2 hour, then to lunch with Chris, then rest time for the girls and then off to the airport. Her flight leaves at 4:30pm today. She's just starting to miss her family, so this was the perfect amount of time, I think.

Hi everyone!

I finally made my ressie for DL - am staying at GC and am looking forward to it - won't have a Disney trip til then.

Gail - which airline did you use to go out there - looking for a good airfare - otherwise, it will be time for me to drive cross country again which wouldn't be too bad a thing except I have a lot of travelling coming up in August and at the end of July too. :confused3 :moped:

We flew NorthWest because it was direct. Spirit flies direct too but their times didn't work for us for that weekend. We flew into LAX, but I heard it's closer to fly into John Wayne. We used the Super Shuttle, it took us about 40 minutes to get to DL from LAX (Thursday night 9:00 PM).

The GC is so cool looking - well it actually looks like Wilderness Lodge but some of the rooms overlook DTD. Pretty neat!

Mary you are going to love Grand Californian! My favorite spot is the outdoor fireplace. You go out the doors right by the indoor fireplace and then around the back. There is an outdoor fireplace with chairs around it. It very rarely has anyone around and is no nice and peaceful.

To go into California Adventure there is an enterance right off of the hotel. Nice! Real easy to walk to Downtown Disney and Disneyland as well. Enjoy!

We always fly into John Wayne. It is a great airport. Not too big and a very easy commute over to Disneyland.

Quiet here this morning. Guess it is time for another round of GTKYKFC. We'll call this the SSMC06 fantasy edition. Let your imagination go wild when you dream about this upcoming cruise.

1. Not counting points or trips, what gift would you like to receive from DVC?

2. Based on the success of Art Linkletter last year what old-time Disney star would you like to hear talk on this cruise?

3. Which current Disney star would you like to see perform on the cruise?

4. What special behinds the scene guest would you like to see onboard to give a presentation?

5. Since we've had a photo taken on each of the other Member Cruises what would you like to see done for a photo on this cruise?

6. Anything else special you'd like to see?

I'm lurking  I'll play!

1. Not counting points or trips, what gift would you like to receive from DVC? A lithograph like the one from SSMC05.

2. Based on the success of Art Linkletter last year what old-time Disney star would you like to hear talk on this cruise? He's not an 'old-time' Disney star, but I'd love to see Wayne Brady.

3. Which younger Disney star would you like to see perform on the cruise? Aly and AJ, I think they are so cute and sing really well!

4. What special behinds the scene guest would you like to see onboard to give a presentation? Joe Rhode, that guy seems like he'd be a lot of fun to have around too!

5. Since we've had a photo taken on each of the other Member Cruises what would you like to see done for a photo on this cruise? I'd like to go back to the colored shirt pic like SSMC03, I didn't think the Mickey Ears looked as cool in the pic.

6. Anything else special you'd like to see? I'll just be happy seeing my friends! But I really hope the pirate ship is still at CC when we get there!

Here are my answers:

1. Not counting points or trips, what gift would you like to receive from DVC? I think it would be cool to get something like an etched glass picture frame. One that could hold one of the photo's taken on board and have the DVC logo etched in it.

2. Based on the success of Art Linkletter last year what old-time Disney star would you like to hear talk on this cruise? Definately Fess Parker! I loved watching him in Davey Crockett and Daniel Boone. He was there at opening day of Disneyland and his wine is sold on the ship. Think of how many bottles would be sold if he was on board!

3. Which younger Disney star would you like to see perform on the cruise? Jim Brinkman - with Wayne Brady as a special guest!

4. What special behinds the scene guest would you like to see onboard to give a presentation? I would love to see Joe Rohde, creative executive with Walt Disney Imagineeri. I think he would be full of great stories about Expedition Everest and other projects.

5. Since we've had a photo taken on each of the other Member Cruises what would you like to see done for a photo on this cruise? Instead of gathering on the beach like we've done it the past I think it would be cool if there were stations set up on the ship where a family could go for a photo. They could then take all of these and make a photo mosiac out of it. Think of the possibilities. This would also make it easier for more people to participate and not cut into island time.

6. Anything else special you'd like to see? Since we are visiting Castaway Cay twice I'd love to see us pull in one time and back in the other time. That way everyone with an outside cabin would have a beautiful view of the island one of their days.

After reading Diana's I had to change my answer! I had forgotten about Wayne Brady and Jim Brinkman!
