20050618 - June 18, 2005 - Magic to Mexico

someone sent me pictures of the corset peircing, and is looks so painful.

It looks very painful. My MIL emailed me pictures today. Let me know if you still want them sent.

I also got the shore excursion book as well today. I must tell you that when I pulled the envelope out of the mail box, I was so excited. Thought it might be some much waited for info. But alas no new news. But the guide is something I guess. :tilt:

OK, all this talk about Pirate Night has me wondering. (Just caught "Perfect Proposal" on TLC, thanks to Tivo keyword search). What's the deal? Is it just dress up and dance night, or is there something more to it? How much should we be doing with costumes? The kids have eyepatches, hats, and a Captain Hook outfit - should we be preparing for this?

We don't know if there will be a Pirate themed night, or a Tropical Night. When I went on the Western cruise, we had a Mexicalifragilistic night. You could wear Mexican attire, or Tropical attire. They replaced that with the Pirate night on both boats?? The other them night was Tropicalifragilistic, and that was on the Wonder I believe, or maybe the Eastern route? I can't remember. They had a Mexican food buffet late one night. Maybe they will bring that back because we are going to Mexico. I hope they tell us soon! :rolleyes2

I want an e-mail alert when anyone posts the big "Theme Night" news when it FINALLY GETS HERE! :lovestruc Please?

HEYYYYYYYYYY I just noticed my cruise countdown switched from 2 months, to one month and 4 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!! :teeth: Made me smile! We are spending a few days in Disneyland before the cruise.

I found a one piece blue speedo suit that fit my tall torso daughter at Kohl's! YAY! Also Capri's at the Gap. At least we have officially started our cruise shopping! :cloud9: Now I am searching all the Kohl's to find one more size 10 Tinker Bell nightgown. My girlfriend and I want to have them for our four little girls waiting for them when we arrive at the Disneyland Hotel. princess:

Granted, I'm coming at this from a "guy" POV, but.....

what's the deal with "Cruise Shopping?" Isn't it just like "shopping for summer" - you need swim suits, shorts, etc. Do you really buy stuff that you wouldn't be normally buying just for the cruise? If so, I have this feeling I'm going to be awfully unfashionable. I understand for the kids - they grow, they need new stuff.

(Can you tell that DW and I recently "discussed" this? Can you tell that DW is buying stuff just for the cruise?)

...feeling like the kid wearing OP corduroy shorts when everyone else has moved on to pleated linen....

The cruise shopping I get to do is just for the kids. You are right, it is actually normal summer shopping, but so much more fun to refer to it as "Cruise shoppin". My summer clothes take years to wear out. My husbands things are in great shape from last years cruise. The kids can hardly ever re-wear any of theirs a second year. My twins can now, since they have stopped growing and are gentler on things.(18 yrs. old) and they can shop for themselves. :cheer2:
If I didn't have 5 kids to shop for, and get together enough outfits for, I wouldn't stress over it. Finding just a few items for each one can take so much time! My son is the easiest. I bring him home things, if they fit he keeps them. Sometimes even if they DON'T fit, he will swear they do so he can avoid trying anything else on. :rotfl2: He hates to shop. Girls can be sooooo picky! I am glad I have learned to relax about the formal nights since our first cruise. I stressed over that for nothing. I basically just want to bring along enough things to avoid doing laundry.

Holly - I will keep you company today and post my greetings for the week!

Our trip to Gettysburg was fun. The weather was beautiful and continues to be so! In fact now there are complaints that we "need" rain! :flower: Everything is greening again and DD picked lots of dandylions along the way! We hiked 3 miles on Friday, 9 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Not too bad for an "old lady"! :goodvibes

DBinMV: I concur with Mizz Holly in that I read on these boards that there would be no pirate: nite on the Mexican cruises. I am bummed! :guilty:

I'll help keep us on page 1 too. :cool1:
We are finally back in "not-so-sunny" southern California. It is nice to be home again after three weeks.
I just made my final payment for the cruise  :earseek:  :earseek:  I asked the travel agent if there was anything yet on theme nights and was told nothing yet. :bored:

Count me out on the corset thing, I didn't even like getting my ears pierced!

I have done a bit of cruise shopping, dresses for the girls mostly. I also bought "water shoes." I thought maybe they could wear them when riding with Randi's. What do you think? They live in shorts, swim suits and flip flops most of the summer here.

Vacationbug: very impressive weekend! We have taken the girls on day hikes a few times, but basically end up bribing them with trailmix, etc. to get from point to point, they get so distracted along the way!
I sort of feel like hansel and gretel! :rotfl2:

My foot is feeling better, but I never realized how much driving :moped: I have to do before! No swim practice today - yeah! Just piano lessons and the teacher comes here! I go into the doctor later this week to have it checked again.

DBinMV: Glad you had a good trip to Disneyland. DH has taken the girls one at a time to Legoland or Seaworld, but I don't think he ever braved 2 on 1 when they were that little.

I am hoping to get to Lego Land and Sea World this summer. I know it will be hot, but I can't really get there any other time. :sunny:

Actually in June it could be rather cool at both Legoland and Seaworld since they are both near the coast. "June Gloom" (marine layer) generally keeps any areas close to the water in the high 60's, low 70's for the mornings and then again in the late afternoons. In the early afternoons when the marine layer pulls back over the ocean it can get into the mid-70's near the coast. The "layered" thing usually works with a sweatshirt for the cooler times. You should have a great time!

If you would like more info on either Legoland or Seaworld let me know. We are probably going to Seaworld next week for DD10's 11th birthday and when the girls were younger we were Legoland regulars (it's about time to start taking the youngest DD, now that I think about it. )

Legoland & SeaWorld shouldn't be too hot...well not as hot as Disneyland because they do get a breeze from the ocean. We've been thinking about taking the kids to "breakfast with Shamu" at Sea World.

I may not be doing as much cruise shopping now......'cause we may be going to Hawaii in July for a wedding. :sunny:

:wave2: I would love any updated info on Sea World and Lego Land!! I am really interested in the meals with Shamu. Thanks!

I am wondering if any of you are paying ahead on your ship board account? I was just reading a thread on this and is sounds like a good idea for us.

I'm not planning to prepay our ship board account. I'm just one of those people who like to hold on to my $$ as long as possible. We're going to put everything on a charge card then pay that off when I get the bill.

I saw in the May 14th thread that someone got their theme nights from Debbie.

Really?????? :earseek:
Had to go peek. Looks like they get a Pirate Night and a Tropical Night? I wonder which one of those we will get then.

I had a look at the May 14th thread too. It doesn't mention a new show? :confused3 But, I guess it is really just about meals though. Do you think we might actually get a new show and still have Pirate or Tropical night? That would be great!

We buy everything with an airline mileage credit card and then pay it off at the end of the month so that is what we will do with our shipboard account as well. That, with DH's travel, has earned us family tickets to Hawaii every year.

I was doing some "budgeting" earlier -- those little extras: tips, "umbrella drinks", smoothies, coffee's, spa treatments, etc. can add up to a pretty amazing total!

It looks like we will be going to Seaworld on the 30th now for DD's birthday (it is supposed to rain this weekend again!) I will look scope out info on the meals with Shamu. Anything else? I'll go over to Legoland when I am out of this darned boot. I see the Dr on Monday, but since my foot still hurts, I am guessing that I will have to keep wearing the boot for a little while longer. (Won't Seaworld be fun!)

Arrrrrr! Me vote is for de Pirates, Mateys! pirate:

CACruisin': Dem bones, they do take a while to heal back up! Maybe you'll be able to predict the weather better than the TV guys! :guilty:

I guess we'll be a-packing the yellow disney ponchos. I hear that DL has "royal" blue, so we'll be standing out like sore thumbs! :umbrella:
