Kim, your ears must have been ringing because I was just talking abou the cute letter we received from Kaylin!

Adrienne is really excited but is waiting for her school picture to come back before she answers. If we don't get them this week, she is just going to write to her and send the picture later.

She loved the letter and keeps asking me questions about Florida and where you live, but I told her to save the questions for you and Kaylin!!

Tell Kaylin to expect a letter by no later than Tuesday of next week. (We will mail it Saturday).

Have a good one!

jindy

Jindy- let her know we speak English in Florida too! Since Kaylin wanted to know how you were going to be able to read her letter! She thought California was in a different country! We went to Orlando this past weekend and on the way home (only a 2.5 hour drive) she kept asking if we were in Florida yet!:teeth:

Noticed a person in another post who said he would be canceling his May 14 cruise due to a problem he had with DCL and the recent inclement weather. Maybe we will get a cabin assignment. Do you guys think I should be worried about this GTY status???

Off to SLC to get some teeth surgery, later,

Scott, I would be really suprised if DCL overbooked this cruise. I would not worry about the GTY status. If I were you however, I would be periodically checking with my TA or DCL regarding when I could expect my assignment. Let them know your going no matter what.

I read the post you are referring to, if the guy cancels, it is his loss, and DCL's gain!

Good luck at the dentist. I spent 4 days down in Florida with a throbbing pain in a tooth. UGH, every beat of my heart could be felt in the tooth. A trip to the dentist, and for now it has calmed down. Still the thing might get yanked. Unless it is near the front I refuse to pay $800 for a root canal and $800 for a crown.

Glad to have you back Peter and Jen!

Robin

Look at what I got on Ebay for $28!!!!

This dress is $130 at Dillards. I am too cheap to pay that. So now I have a dress for the cruise! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

(I can only wish I looked as good as this model in it though LOL)

Debbie, great deal on the dress! I just love shopping Ebay! I haven't even thought of shopping for the cruise yet. I'm sure I'll be out there last minute.

Scott, I agree with Robin. I hate being in GTY status, so I bugged my TA to call DCL about once a week until they gave us cabin assignments. I don't think they proactively call you once they assign cabins. You just have to contact them to find out.

Try it, it worked for us.

BTW, hope the dental surgery went well! The one thing I am a gigantic baby about is mouth pain! :earseek:

Cheers, Kara

Well, I have to say . . .. I did call Dreams and they called DCL and I got my cabin assignment. I was in a cat 6 gty.

This was about 3 weeks ago. The bummer is that I wasnt' overly thrilled with my location and now there is nothing I can do about it! I prefer an aft location, but ended up forward. Oh, guess my DH and I will have to actually try the adult pool for a change!

Has anyone gotten news of an upgrade coming out of gty for our sailing?

Lynda,
I called the Tropicana last night. I told them I had booked a room online for myself and my aunt. I explained that we would be arriving with my aunt's service dog and asked if we would be charged extra. She said, "NO, we don't allow pets - but a service dog is fine and we don't charge extra for that". So don't worry!! :teeth:

Robin, I hope you're doing OK. I HATE going to the dentist or doctor. I'm a big baby when it comes to that stuff. On another note, JET BLUE has opened up their calendar for May of next year. They are a great bargain for those of you on the East Coast, but 1 way from San Jose to Orlando is $400 bucks! ($200 out of Oakland) YIKES!!! Plus the flight hours are terrible - they offer no red-eye and I don't want to waste all of Friday in the air. So it looks like it's going to have to be America West for me. Blah.

Kim, the last time we went to Disneyland, I took a drive around Anaheim checking out houses and stuff. 5 minutes away from the resort my daughter asked, "WHY DID YOU LEAVE ANAHEIM? ARE WE STILL IN CALIFORNIA? TAKE ME BACK!!" Pretty funny what they don't get at this age...LOL!

Peter, glad you and Jen had a fabulous time.

Scott I read that post too. I hope that means my mom can join me! LOL! I wouldn't worry too much about your GTY status. You might even get upgraded.

Debbie, I have been too scared of buying clothes on ebay only because I usually hate the way I look in everything. I try on about 800 things before I find one that I don't look too hideous in. Congrats! You got a great bargain!!

Sandra, I doubt there will be upgrades until right before sailing when DCL is getting their act together regarding the GTY rooms. In 5 cruises with DCL, we have only received one upgrade. I had selected our stateroom 18 months in advance, and 1 week before sailing, after our docs arrived, I got an email from my TA that I was upgraded from CAT 7 to CAT 5. So it can happen even if you have a room assignment from the beginning! Gee, I wonder if I could be so lucky twice?:teeth:

Jindy, thanks, I saw that last night that Jet Blue opened bookings! I will have my flights booked by Saturday the latest. I first need to figure out how long I will be staying in the LA area. I spoke to my DD today, and she wants to go shopping in Ventura! LOL Does she not realize I will be broke by the time we finish this cruise? I figure with the credit vouchers I have from the last time I flew Jet Blue, this will only cost us each $155.00 round trip!

Robin

:jumping1: :jumping1:

Okay, I could not stand it anymore! :teeth: I booked our flights! For the two of us, from JFK to MCO, and then from LGB to JFK grand total including taxes and everything is $356.40 :sunny:

cruise booked, not yet paid
Ron Jons booked, paid in full
Roundtrip air booked, paid in full

I'm getting there

Robin

One of the girls at work told me they are thinking about closing the Panama Canal! Whats that about!

I am soooo glad its Friday! On the other havd I agreed to work Sat. for an Implant Surgeon! I wish I would have said no, but I could use the extra money for the trip!

I hate going to the dentist too! hehehe And I work for one!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Jindy-Whats Adrienne going to be for Halloween?

Kim

Robin, thanks for the heads up! We are going to be booking jet blue and I have been checking to see when they open up the flights. I would normally be nervous about booking this far in advance but with it only costing $20 to change if necessary... well... :) Newark is a bit closer but I love jet blue and their flexibility (not to mention the tv's in the back of the seat!) There is a local towncar company WAY up here that will do the round trip to JFK for $230... it will cost more than that for us to park over there for 2.5 weeks so we are thinking of going for it. I can't believe getting there will cost as much as another plane ticket!

Right now we are just trying to figure out if we want to fly out early on friday morning and spend a day at the parks or what, and what time to fly back the tuesday after memorial day. I'm a little afraid of stretching the trip too far (I am HOPEFULLY graduating in December so I don't have a job yet, DH has already cleared it with his job).

I am so excited for this trip. I can't believe how fast the time is going. Time to get back to my thesis so I can graduate and go!

I was wondering how many of you are staying at the port the night before? I keep thinking that might be a lot more relaxing than going to MGM the day before. Plus, I can also go to the store if I need to (will rent a car).

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay? Or better yet, on where NOT to stay! My only requirement is that I am close to the beach and the port.

What the resorts seem to be doing is charging extra for the handicapped accessible rooms...both the Candy Cane Inn and Tropicana quoted my TA a rate of $20 to$30 MORE for me to reserve the HA room...I got the on-line rate, where you cannot select HA room unless you enter the request in the message box. Only the CC Inn said no to Service dogs and I was wondering if the Tropicana would try and do the same when I showed up..I've always thought that notifying a hotel in advance that a Service Dog would be part of the group was an invitation to trouble, as my TA found out with CCInn. I'm just happy that the problem of where to stay is solved for now...That's another part of the planning that's completed...NOW for the air tickets.... Does your Aunt run into many problems traveling with a service dog? I 've found that the airlines are the worst...Sort of like being on a baseball team and having them break your legs as a condition of play...

Lynda, I was just pretending to have an "Aunt" with a service dog when I called the Tropicana just to see what they'd tell ME vs anything they might have told your TA. I didn't realize it's the HA rooms they were charging more for.

Did you request the HA room when you made the online reservation?

I don't know anyone that has a service dog personally, but when we went to Disneyland in July we met a woman and her daughter who were training a service dog. They sat with us at the dessert buffet during Fantasmic and all the cast members were really accomadating to them and the dog. So, at least you can know that when you get to DL you will have no worries.

I really hope everything works out with the Tropicana.

There's a way to select smoking/non-smoking, or bed type or other things, but no way to request a HA room unless you type the request in the little message box at the bottom of the reservation request form. I got the confirmation letter from the Tropicana today and no HA room was specified so I guess they didn't pay any attention to it. I gave my res. number to my TA to see if she could check but they, at the Trop, said they wouldn't talk to her as I had booked myself....So far, I don't know about the HA room at the Trop. My cynical side says that when I try to check in they will try and charge me a higher rate by telling me that there are no HA rooms left at the internet rate....My TA is out of town for a few days and when she returns she will get back to checking to see if I DO have an HA room as I requested in the little box on my internet reservation form. I WILL have confirmation of an HA room before I go, though...I do not want to spend my first day after a heavenly cruise fighting for my rights in a hotel lobby....!
This is all so tedious and is the primary reason that the ADA was hailed as such a great piece of CIVIL RIGHTS legistration. If I lived in California, where there are actual PENALTIES for businesses that pull this stuff I could romp from hotel to hotel, filing lawsuit after lawsuit and make a pretty good living. In Texas, however, the situation is the same and, without the penalties, pointless to try and effect change by filing a lawsuit..
