Thought I'd check on the OLD thread. Hey it is still alive!:cool1:
Let's get to it.
Hello all,
Just a quick note to say that I haven't fallen off of the face of the earth. Life is busier than usual.
Whew. Was going to look off the face of the earth for you since it seemed you had vanished from the 5 night thread.
I was wondering if any of my disfriends could help me out with something? I am going to get a tattoo of either the scroll work and new logo that is on the new DCL buses or the scroll work from the bow of the Magic. I cannot find a decent photo of the scroll work from the Magic online and was wondering if anyone could post an up close shot? Or a some what up close shot?

I'm just trying to decide which I want to live with forever...

Ah, a Permanent Reminder of a Temporary Feeling.
If you do, ya can't give blood for a year. :sad2:

No Member Cruise for us, just too short, but not short on Points LOL
I don't think you have ever been short on points have you?:lmao:
I mean, a gazillion is a lot of points.:faint:

Hey Celeste....I'll be adding to my permanent Disney artwork next Friday....I'm very excited....I will post a picture after I get it done!!!!!!

Elaine, you are so brave! It took me years to get my ears pierced. Did you see the show where Oprah had hers done? That was me! Can't wait to see your new Disney artwork!

We are sitting on the plane right now, waiting to push back.

The tattoo will be on my back

Scott please post yours gotya go!

Hey Kids we did the 5K Race for the Cure today, it was fun, My time was 30.29 so getting a little faster.

We are traveling to Denver to see the Cubs and Rockies. Should be fun.

Have a great weekend.

Celeste will do.

Bob, I don't donate blood in the first place, I don't mind putting needles IN people, but I TOTALLY mind having them put in me! I have really small veins and am a hard stick.

Nine hours is a really long time to be on a flight! SO glad to be off!

I hear ya about needles, I almost fainted in EMT Class, I can stick anybody, but dont put that thing in me.

The Game was fun, Cubbies lost big time. Got to see a grand slam, that was a first. The folks we are with got freebie tickets for the afternoon game today. Being a little spectator sports are really not my thing, rather be bloodied in the arena. DL ½ marathon is a few days away, feel pretty ready, will be slow but get it done.

Denver is a neat town. I gotta get my but in gear and get tickets for “Spamalot”.

Later kids.

I know getting stuck with a needle sucks, but we are in a blood crisis guys. If I can get Jeff to donate blood, anyone can (to be honest, Jeff was/ is such a baby about needles, when he had to get a shot of benadryl in his behind, he was so nervous and tense, the needle BOUNCED off of his behind - that takes talent!).
Donation only takes 20 yo 30 minutes and you'll be saving someone's life!
(Hey it's better than the 2- 3 hours donation of platelets that I use to donate prior to getting pregnant!)
Stepping off soap box now....

I also won't donate due to the fact that the Red Cross CHARGES the hospitals at least $500 per 300mL of blood and we have to pass that charge onto the patient. So many people think that when they donate blood, that it is given to people freely- I just feel it is wrong. If I can donate it and they will give it to someone for free, I'd donate all the time. Other wise, nope- won't do it.

If you have a sec, check out C's blog it is pretty kewl...

While I agree about the Red Cross (I have never given or will ever give money to them - they had the gaulk to charge servicemen sent to Korea during the war for coffee and doughnuts as they got off their transport ships, the Salvation Army provided it for free across the dock), there are other options for donating blood. Here in Florida, the Red Cross does none of the blood donations, it's all local organizations that have contracts with local hospitals.
However, if the RC was the only option, I would still donate. My problems with their ethics is small conpared to how many lives I have seen saved by donated blood every day at work. My ethics can be pushed to the side to help out.

Well Celeste, you made a believer out of me. Since the Red Cross charges the hospitals $500 for my blood, I won't ever donate again. That'll show them!

Wrong!
I am not naive enough to believe that there are no costs attached to that pint of blood that I donate. Heck there was a RN, a vampire and a receptionist just to handle me the other day. Plus you add transportation and testing of each and every pint that comes thru. I know that probably doesn't add up to $500 dollars. But here is the kicker Celeste. And you being a nurse should realize this....
If I and others like me do not donate blood, where will it come from?

BTW, tuesday, I donated my 27th pint.

Hey maybe hospitals will start charging patients what the actual costs are too. :rotfl:

Bob and Jenn, it is really good that people donate. I understand that there is a cost to providing services. However, it is always the Red Cross who hangs out at the hospitals in WI and IL trying to get the staff to donate. I just won't do it. With my bad veins, I've already told me that I should try to protect my veins- so I do. Heavens knows I don't want to be one of those people who have to have a central line because of poor access. I guess when you know that you already have an odd bleeding condition which could potentially cause you to become critically ill at any time- without warning, you try to prevent potential problems. I myself, try to donate my own blood for planned events. It prevents the delay in trying to match my antibodies, blood type, and clotting factors.

It does save lives- no doubt about it. I'm sure Jenn sees this more than I do in her patient population. I usually see our patients getting blood when their Hgb is at 9, which isn't really that low- esp if you are female. In our patients, they could stand to go a little lower, to 8 or so. Jenn's patients can not tolerate low blood volumes due to their small volumes. Maybe I am jaded by the misuse I see of blood at work...Who knows.

Jen and Bob get the  for donating. I'll continue to get the grouch award. ;)
