DVC “Confessions”

When Polynesian Island Tower was announced there was a ton of chatter that it was a repurposed Reflection Resort design. It looks very similar
Seems like towers are working for them. I heard direct prices were cheaper when a resort is first built. Maybe that will be my chance!

Wouldn't the original VGF building also technically be a "tower?" It's 6 floors vs Polynesian Island Tower at 10 floors, but it's a tall "T" that's themed to the original Grand Floridian Resort.

I don't have anything against tower style buildings. I just want a WDW resort to look and feel like a WDW resort. Had the Island Tower been themed like the original concept when it was proposed with the longhouse conversion it would have fit the Polynesian Village Resort vibe better. The Polynesian Island Tower looks like an upscale resort in Oahu, just not the Polynesian Village Resort.

This may be an unpopular opinion amongst DVC owners and I guess this is my confession, but I prefer DVC resorts blended with deluxe cash resorts rather than being standalone. That's one of the things that concerns me about RIV once it's sold out. I don't feel that OKW and SSR get the same "love" as other DVC resorts sharing common spaces with cash guests.

Poly tower's one bedroom is nice.... I was very close to doing my second contract there. I was given just a slightly better deal to get another one at Riviera which pushed me over the edge to go that route.

To all you Tower Haters - could it be because you only stay in a studio?

Nope. DH and I are those crazy people who always book a 1 bedroom even if we are only a party of 2. I guess if they started putting king size beds in the studios we’d consider it, maybe. The guaranteed king bed is how I convinced DH we needed to buy DVC. Now we are extremely reluctant to even try to stay in a regular hotel room. The space of a 1bdrm really spoils you quickly…

Uh oh... my partner and I are headed to WDW for the first time in Sept and splurged for the BCV 1 bdrm since it was our "First"

Is there something I should take to prevent the onset of "add-on-itis"?

The king was a huge help for us but really it was the washer/dryer. We did our first year having a contract in a 1 bedroom because we could use the previous years points. Room was amazing and the washer/dryer there along with the size of the tub was perfect. The year after we are in a studio learning the Riviera has ONE laundry room and my wife is like yeah....

So now unless it's for a split stay we are in one bedrooms for our trips.

Never thought Id be one to do laundry while on vacation. Welp after our 1st stay in a 1 bed w/ washer I am now sold for life.

Right? We pack less and just do several loads throughout the trip depending on it's length. Don't have to check an app for availability or think about going back early to then be tied there for hours waiting. We get back from being out all day, throw a load in do our time time stuff and by the time we are passing out it's in the dryer wrapping up.

We had our first 1 bedroom stay. And now I've calculated that I would need to double our points to only do one bedroom stays and I'm trying to make the case to the misses...it's a dangerous game staying in the nicer rooms.
