20050514..May 14, 2005...Official Check in Disney's 1st 14 Day thru Panama Canal Part 2

I know this question has come up many times. But the best place to get the passport requirements for this cruise is direct from Disney. Call DCL and see what they say. Although many people have said that passports are a good thing to have (especially for this trip), I still don't think they are required (however, we went ahead and got them anyway).

Before you start fighting the passport question, call DCL.

Ken

I called DCL right after posting and first they said I would need it then they said that I would not. I'd hate to get to FL or worse Curacao or Mexico and my DC' DD not be allowed off of the ship.

The State Department has the final say on this matter, so I would look at their website:

http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/brochures/brochures_1229.html

Both Curacao and Mexico require a valid passport OR valid birth certificate. While it is always the best idea to have a passport, for children under 18, they are not required. Proof of citizenship is required, which can be a state-issued birth certificate.

If you call DCL again, ask to speak to a supervisor as they have the most complete information.

You should be aware, however, that traveling out of the country during the divorce could be tricky. Read all of the information on the SD's website. It's very helpful.

I don't think you have to worry about Mexico at all. The only place that could be an issue would be Curacao. I've been looking around on the web but I haven't found a solid answer at this point.

Ken

From http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/brochures/brochures_1229.html

NETHERLANDS ANTILLES - Islands include Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten. Passport or proof of U.S. citizenship (i.e., certified birth certificate or voter registration card with photo ID) required. Visa not required for stay of up to 14 days, extendible to 90 days after arrival. Tourists may be asked to show onward/return ticket or proof of sufficient funds for stay. Departure tax $10 when leaving Bonaire, $20 in Curacao, $4 in Statia, $10 in St. Maarten. For further information, consult the Royal Netherlands Embassy (202/244-5300), or nearest Consulate General: CA (310/2681598), FL (305/789-6646), IL (312/856-0110), NY (212/246-1429) or TX (713/622-8000). Thank you. You guys are the best. The divorce is final and she has full custody so that shouldn't be an issue, but I'll check out that website. He stole the birth certificates for both of them but I know she can get replacements for that. Thanks again for your help. She'll be relieved. I can't wait to meet you all on board!

I sure hope this works out for you and your DC and DN! It will be such a fabulous trip! :flower:

Having been a child in a messy divorce my heart goes out to your sister and her daughter. There was another mom on this cruise that I was talking to awhile back who was having the same problem. Here's the link to specifics on the state dept web site: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/minors/minors_834.html
She MAY not have to get her ex to sign for the passport per the state dept since she has full custody, but call the state dept!

In the tourism information I just received from Curacao, it says only a birth certificate is required.

Since I travel with my daughter out of country occasionally without DH, my recommendation is this:

1. Make sure she has a CERTIFIED copy of her daugther's birth certificate.
2. Bring a CERTIFIED copy of the divorce decree which states that she has full custody. If it says anything other than full custody, you could potentially run into a problem.
3. She will NOT need a passport to get into any of the stops we are going to, or if she got stuck on land and the ship left without her she could get out of the country. My parents have never had a passport, they didn't want to spend the money for a one time trip and DCL said they did not need to get one. They are bring their certified birth certificates and driver's licenses.

Back to me and my DD, when I have travelled out of the country and DH hasn't travelled with us, I have had to have him sign an affidavit which was notarized giving me permission to take her out of the country. Some countries haven't even looked at it, but when I took her to Aruba for her birthday last year, they made me show them the Affidavit.

In your cousin's case, just make sure she's got that certified divorce decree. Always better to be prepared and one step ahead of everyone else.

Linda

P.S. I guess a little legal knowledge is a good thing for my own personal use. I worked in a law office for 7 years!

The DCL website is showing availability for cat 5,6,8,9,10,11 & 12. Wow, a lot of people must have cancelled their trips!

I actually just contacted DCL about that, and I inquired about upgrades since both Debbi and myself have birthdays during the cruise. The DCL rep said that there is exactly one cabin open on all of the categories listed above.

I also asked if they are going to be showing the new Star Wars film on board. It opens on May 19th, and even though it isn't a Disney movie, there is a relationship between Lucasfilm and Disney (Star Tours, Star Wars Weekends at MGM...). The rep said she doesn't see it listed, but one may never know what happens.....

I guess I'll have to see it at DD at DL on the 28th. Anyone want to go???

Stateroom Volunteer = Will Be looking for One Volunteer To Deliver The DIS Navigator That Will Be published each Day By Seaulater, Will contain What is Going on Each Day with The Dis Events
Deck 7, 6,2 Accounted for, 5,8 Still Not accounted for.

Seaulater = I hereby volunteer to make the Disboard Navigator for this cruise. Now, I'm not coming up with an original idea here, but credit goes to Mark and Mary from the 10 day Christmas Cruise who made the Navigator and delivered to everyone's "fish" for when they arrived at their stateroom door.

So, I think we had a couple of volunteers to deliver, so I will make up the navigator (for everything we have scheduled prior to the cruise), print, bring, and deliver to everyone. I will also bring extras for the sailaway party(ies) and all that good stuff.
What Mary did is post the Navigator before we left on her website and then people could print out if they wanted. I did, and it was handy.
So here's what it will list:
1. People's names; location and whether they are playing tag or not..
2. Each day and the schedule of disboard activities for that day.
3. A place for Notes
4. Anything else that might be deemed important.

I can make them all spiffy - real cases, color covers, direct color printing on the discs. DCL lets you on the ship when you get off in Mexico it will be just like the parent and one child getting off. We won't go through customs in Mexico. We will just get off with our KTTW card and I always take my ID. Never had anyone look at me besides ship personnel in stops in Cabo and Acapulco.

Hi Lynda (& Cash) - are your Mickey Ears the Pirate ones? If so, can I ask where you ordered them from?

Also, thanks everyone for the information about the Cruising (or Cursing) the Panama Canal book. I ordered it yesterday and received a email advising that it was mailed out today. I should have on Monday or Tuesday. Now to find time to read it.
