Hello, Westbound Cruisers! Eastbounder stopping in.

Thanks so much Brisully for sharing the Pin news with us today. The large pin in the case (for both cruises) is awesome! I also love the unique pin available for each cruise.

If there's anyone who would be interested in trading any Westbound for Eastbound pins (both the onboard or the custom fantasy one) please send me a PM.

Your trip is getting so close!!! Have a wonderful time planning!

At the risk of getting ridicule from my DW about posting something else... I'm going to ask...

What's Disney's take on alcohol purchases in foreign ports? Curacao... home of the Amstel Brewery... it would certainly be nice to pick up some souvenirs there to enjoy through the canal.

Last time we did The Magic (back in 2000) I seem to recall that alcohol purchases in foreign ports were sequestered and held until final debarkation due to customs regulations. All I can seem to find on the boards is mentions of stocking up in Key West.

So... any experiences amongst this group? Considering the conversation on this board, I'd find it hard to believe that I'm the only one that will be drinking!

I bought a bottle of Kahlua at Cozumel and carried it on board in a bag, no problems. Nothing was said and it was not taken from me. :cool1:

How did I miss this question???
On the Christmas cruise I brought an entire case of coconut rum back on board in a carry on box...plus another bag with 2 bottles. they Xrayed it.. said nothing.. I took it to my stateroom and consumed the 2 bottles in the bag during the rest of the cruise... :drinking1 HOWEVER.. alcohol I purchased in the ships store was held until the last night of the cruise, then delivered to my stateroom.
I say ......when in Mexico....... BUY TEQUILA!!!:drinking1 Free salt and lemon on Deck 9......:rotfl2:

How did you get that case of rum and whatever you bought on the ship through customs? Aren't you limited to 2 liters per person or something?

I'll keep the tequila thing in mind this trip -- I thought the Kahlua was a great bargain, so I bought it and brought it home with me.

On the Christmas Cruise it was 5 liters per person... and that's just the duty free limit... if you are willing to pay duty you can bring in as much as you want. I think the duty was like 90 cents or something... My boyscout DH got up and went to the duty thing at 6am on debarkation day....the guy laughed at him and said if it was less than $10 forget about it.... NOW YOU DID NOT HEAR THIS FROM ME>>>>>:rotfl2:
Hey...just noticed that I went from Mouseketeer to DIS Cast Member... guess that's cause I hit 500 posts???

Wow great idea maybe we can hang a dipole between the smoke stacks. I am a Ham but have not been active in 7 years. Moved to the new house with the idea of new rig, dipoles..never did it to busy at work. So no equipment to bring along.

FYI: n2dhl

Oooh! That could be a lot of fun to run a dipole up there, just wouldn't want to run it myself. :scared1: Did I mention that I HATE heights?

We brought our HTs on the 7-night Western last year, and they came in handy. Compared to the FRS radios that so many people use, we never had any frequency competition. When DW went back to the ship in Key West, we could reach her no problem from anywhere in town. Castaway Cay too.

One of these days, I'll have to share what happened when we asked for permission onboard to use the radios. Was pretty funny - just what happened as they went through the approval process.

Maybe I'll just wrap the table skirt around DH 3 or 4 times.......and then staple it together....:rotfl2: He's not going anywhere without a pair of shorts on underneath anyway....

Can't wait to see the Hula stuff at the Disney Store... IF ours get's it.. they don't get much adult clothing.. mostly kids toys.
The line of clothes of which I spoke will be available in every Disney Store. It's a main part of late April/May's store set.

Hmm...reading the above with all the booze...maybe if I do save that box that ships me all the wine, I can ship home all the booze. Hmm...but I have to drag that box off the ship. Hmm...might work, we are renting a minivan from Budget. Hmm...still have to pack and send that box of wine. I have a few weeks I guess. Have to buy some Virginny wine...I'm out right now. Might throw in a couple of bottles or Rioja too.

just a quick note that the list has been updated, but pictures and deck plans haven't yet. Also note that additions can be added higher up in the list in the spots vacated by those unable to join us any longer, so just do a ctrl-f to find your name if you want to make sure you are on the list.

I first want to say these pins look awesome! I would love the hubcap but being realistic, I will probably just buy the set with map and maybe an additional smaller version of the hubcap logo.

What really annoys me is that while I do collect pins, I don't trade them or sell them. We purchase pins from places we visit and I make custom frames out of wood and cork to display on our walls. These make for great souvenirs and memories of our trips together.

I really don't like the idea of having to fight with hordes of people just to get one set for us - especially if a good number of people waiting in line every day will be reselling them or buying lots of extras for family and friends. They have every right to it but the guests who actually paid to be on this cruise should be guaranteed these pins if they desire.

I think a good idea would be if there could be tickets or coupons waiting in each cabin - one for each person. Each ticket could be redeemed at the cart to allow for purchase of one of each pin. No ticket, no sale. The condition would be that these could only be used for the first 4-6 days. Anything after that is fair game for the masses to get their 2 per day with no ticket needed. Does that make sense? That would give plenty of time for the regular guest who just wants to purchase them to do so without having to compete. If they can't get around to it in the first days, they have to wait with everyone else.

Thanks to whoever it was who posted the link to DCL's comments page. I posted my concerns about this there also. While we purchase pins from everywhere we go, I've never tried to buy a limited edition pin before. This chaos reminds me of the Hallmark stores the morning after Christmas when the ornaments sell for half-off! I'll never do that again! :earseek:

Wow,

Two upgrades in our Dis boards group today and niether of you deemed it worthy of a dancing banana!
Not to worry I've got you covered. ;)

I also voiced my concern about the possibility of long pin lines to DCL today.

Sure wish I had been on the Christmas cruise to experience Gloria in person... I think we all need to demand an encore performance!

So sorry about those who are not happy with their stateroom assignments. Is there still a possibility of changes?
:goodvibes

Just sit Gloria in the front row with a glow necklace and you'll be sure to get an encore performance.

Speaking of pins-----

Here's my two cents worth. We "assign" one person each day to be the "head" pin person. They get in line at 6 a.m. or so, stand there all day, read a book, and force all those non-disboard vacationers to waste their day in line also, cuz once the first person gets in line, the line will grow and grow and grow. Now, every person this gets in line behind you gets told "the rest of my family will be coming after dinner at 6 p.m. to join me in line." Then at 7:00 every disboard family member shows up to meet up with their "sister" or "brother" or "mom" or "dad" for that "family reunion" and then there are about 100 of us in line before the rest of those idiots that stood in line for hours.

So do you think that will cause a problem?

:rotfl: :rotfl:

I've been in meetings all day long. I'm in Park City and have meetings until Sunday, but had to check in before going to bed. Didn't know I was going to have to read a novel before bed though. Now it is 12:30 a.m. and I am back up at 6 a.m. Good thing I decided to check in.

On the pins though-alot of people won't know about them until after we have been on the ship a day or two. Just us pin collectors are fanatical about it.

And actually, the longest line I waited on during the Christmas Cruise was the line for Ducky Williams to sign my lithograph. Waited 1 hour, but it was worth it. Same thing will happen this cruise. Why don't they just have him sign each one in his spare time before they give them to us. I just don't want to waste any time standing in lines!

I think if DCL announces the pins by putting fliers or coupons or whatever in each person's stateroom that will actually cause more attention because the people that don't normally buy pins will now think they need them also.

And I'm buying my limit for each pin. Gotta pay for that cruise some way cuz it just keeps getting more and more expensive every day!

:rotfl2:

(Note to self): Get my Ebay listings set up before I leave home to pay for cruise!

:cool1:

RE Pins – My thoughts, while I am not a pin collector. I would like a set as a remembrance to go with my map and lithographs. There should be a means by which we (those sailing on the cruise) can get a set without the hassle of standing in a line. Such were my comments to DCL.

Now I believe I will stand in a line to get a lithograph signed by Ducky.

Linda , are you at Homestead Resort????

I also noted we have been at this thread a while as I checked the master list I noted that Lynn and I are actually a year older than listed.

I did the same thing... nice looooog email with a couple of suggestions... ;)
Yes, isn't it amazing how "pin friends" come out of the woodwork when they know you're going on a cruise.... The thing is...even if I can get a second one (assuming I'll get at least ONE) what on earth do you trade something like that for..... I have a couple holy grails that I've been after... but I'm not sure they're worth "The Hubcap":rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi Leslie,

What are your holy grails ?? You never know I might be able to help you. I have decided that I will probably just bring my pin bag and wotk out of that for any trading on the ship or at DL.

Bye, Kim

Someone a few pages back was asking where to get shorts, Old Navy and Victoria's Secret both have long cargo/ bermuda type shorts right now. The ones at Old Navy come in many different styles/ colors, while VS only has one style of longer shorts. Both also offer short shorts as well...

I knew there was a post I wanted to respond to....couldn't remember what it was.....thanks, Jen.....

I got several pairs of shorts at Penney's. But I REALLY had to look for the "non-teenybopper" section. I was very happy with the ones I got! Also, Land's End has some REALLY nice sleeveless tanks, again, "non-teenybopper" style for ONLY $8...V neck only, 2 other styles for about $15......

Didn't notice lime green, tho....

Kelli - Penny's not Sierra Trading Post???? Well they both are Wyoming Companies
