Hi Lynda,

RE: the tropicana (inn and suites on Harbor Blvd.) from the grand californian...

I am pretty familiar with the area as I go frequently. The Tropicana is not technically next door to the Grand Californian...it is on the other side of disneyland.

Michelle - AKA NEM

Thanks, Michelle

This sounds like a job for a taxi. That takes care of THAT problem...Next door...HUMPH!!...

Ahoy Mateys! pirate:

Found this info on the Pirate Night. Since they run this officially on the 7-night cruises I would think they'll do it on our cruise too. Let's hope this is so, especially with all the pre-planning we're all doing!

The new "Pirates IN the Caribbean Party," which began on the Disney Magic seven-night cruises late last year, has officially started on the shorter cruises as of earlier this month. The party transforms cruisers into pirates for the evening and treats them to a themed dinner and deck party, with Disney characters dressed in buccaneer attire making special appearances throughout the evening.

Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho A Pirates Life . . . Aboard Disney Cruise Line

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. -- (11/19/04) The new Pirates IN the Caribbean party is taking over the Disney Magic cruise ship, transforming guests aboard into pirates for the evening and treating them to a scrumptious dinner feast and adventurously themed deck party that would make Captain Jack Sparrow proud.

This newly themed evening aboard Disney's seven-night cruise vacations to the eastern and western Caribbean brings together the traditional cruise dinner and deck party with a rowdy buccaneer bash combining invigorating entertainment, themed dining experiences and brand new special effects for an evening that's perfect for every member of the family.

Starting in the dining room, servers dressed as pirates play the part by welcoming guests with customary greetings of 'ahoy matey' and 'argh' while serving 'grog' rather than drinks. Guests delight in learning the pirate lifestyle by donning specially made pirate bandanas and choosing pirate themed dinner selections from a parchment rolled menu. Dishes from the ship's galley include:

Appetizer: Black beard's jumbo crab cake, with fruit salsa and honey-lime tropical coleslaw
Soup/Salad: Caribbean-style spicy vegetable gumbo soup and a jerk chicken salad
Entrée: The Black Pearl's oven-roasted beef tenderloin, with sour cream chive smashed potatoes, sugar-baked carrots and a deep red wine glaze
Dessert: Floating island of tropical fruit treasures -- a meringue chest filled with tropical fruit and berries surrounded by a vanilla sauce

As the evening transitions from the dining room to high atop decks 9 and 10, a treasure trove of entertainment opens with classic Disney characters dressed in pirate garb, high-energy special effects and interactive audience participation set to music favorites for a new kind of celebration.

The party gets underway with a pirate-style line dance as guests join cruise staff, Goofy and his seafaring friends in learning special dance steps set to a wacky chorus of "Yo, Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for Me."

Impetuously the mood of the party changes as Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and their gang of 'bad' pirates take over the party with special effects including black lighting, skull and cross bone projections and even an invasion of pirates repelling from the funnel. The music additionally changes from the contemporary/pop arrangements to a more sinister tone of a rock and roll party with hard rock classics and heavy metal tunes -- reminiscent of earlier days for the adults.

Just in time, and before Captain Hook's able to enlist audience Dads to join his gang of pirates, Captain Mickey appears and saves the day, ridding the ship of the evil buccaneers for a swash-buckling finish.

"This new themed evening takes entertainment to a whole new level," said Jim Urry, Disney Cruise Line director of entertainment. "Guests love our deck parties and this one allows them to step into the action, experience buccaneer traditions and actually be a pirate."

Currently only aboard the Disney Magic seven-night itineraries, the experience is scheduled to board sister ship Disney Wonder and three- and four-night itineraries in early 2005.

I wonder if Jindy may have disappeared because she cannot make the cruise for one reason or another? I hope that's not true, but she has bee MIA for several months now...I do hope she's okay, even if she cannot make it on the trip with us. :grouphug:

Kim, sorry you're not feeling well! Get well soon! :cool1:

I highly suggest you bring/make costumes for this event! It really makes the night a hoot! We were on the 10n Christmas Cruise and I would say the Majority of the guests who dressed up were Dis Board members and we were the envey of the ship!!! Isn't that right Linda? And as was mentioned earier in the board is we also made up door signs for that night - here is my sign

Also you can go to the Big Party Stores, when we were shopping for patches and pirate stuff - they told us that they were keeping costume items year round now

One other thing if I can remember the site there is a site that translates "english" to "pirate" which is fun and cute to play with. When I find it I will post it on this board

Playing , erhh I mean working with my GPS, I noted that when I am at my office I am 2216.69 miles from Castaway Cay. Need to get much closer.

Thanks so much - it sounds fun.
I LOVE your pirate door sign!

What would we do without the Dis boards?
I never would have thought to make a special door sign for pirate night (or any at all for that matter) but you can bet we'll have one now!
I'll try not to get too carried away though - gotta save a spot in case we get tagged that day!

Don't worry about TAG - we played tag - even with door signs and Christmas decorations - there was still plenty of room for the tag magnet!

Just remember to bring a back up one - if I remember correctly someone took one of ours......................

talklikeapirate.com

That's the site. There is also a site called cosmosmith.com/jolly_roger.html
Our family went there and each family (4 of us) picked out our family jolly roger (that would be your pirate flag) and we used that as part of our sign for our stateroom for pirate day and put down a little history about our "family pirate name".

Linda

Went to 4 sites and the results are that I'm Iron Jenny Kidd, Frownin' Bette Dagger, Dread Pirate Vane, Captain Jeannie. I'm going to need one heck of a name tag. pirate:

Oh, Orientaltrading.com also has pirate stuff. But my favorite site with the most stuff was deadmentellnotales.com. Even if you don't want to order anything, there site is just fun so you can go get a good laugh!

Scott- You are tooo much! I think everyone is getting a little antsy now about the cruise!

Dirty Jenny Kidd...uh, I mean Kim

:rotfl: :worship: I agree 110%! Sadly, you would need to add roughly 3000 miles to that for us here in CA...

BTW, my DH may want to talk to you about your GPS. He wants one (FINALLY!), so I told him which one you got. He wants to know how you like it, blah blah blah...tech stuff I don't get. Anyway, I'm sure he'd be satisfied if he could sit with you on the ship and talk about it some.

Thanks Kara! I hope to be feeling better soon! I have'nt missed work for being sick in about 3 years, and I was so sick that I stayed home Tues. He about threw a fit! What a jerk!! What was I thinking when I ever thought he would be okay with the cruise??? :rotfl2: Have a good day everyone!

Kim
