I have an idea, but don't know if it is somehow already addressed by someone or Disney. I love to read while relaxing on deck, and can go through a few books in a two week period. I don't want to haul a bunch of books around in my luggage. What about a paperback book exchange? (you give one, you take one, etc.) Any thoughts on this?

Phyllis:
DH reads 24/7 and I am sure he will be bringing books with him. He reads so much and we have so many books, that is how I got into pin trading at disney to show him I could do something too. It backfired on me tho. LOL

WE are with you on this one - Another thing I will have to tell him when I confess my doings while he was away - teach him to leave me alone. :rotfl2:

I've been working on ideas for a book exchange. Not sure how to do it yet.

Maybe we could get the Adventures Club to be a Sponsor??? Pith Helmets optional, I would feel like Captain Spalding...

Maybe they'd even loan out Fletcher Hodges' skirt.

My shirt shipped on 2/19 and it isn't here yet.

"Who???"

"You know, those people from the DIS board I've told you about."

"The what board?"

One way to do a countdown timer with the days is to have one on your desktop. I have mine counting down in my tray all the time :cool1:

Try here: Countdown link

I miss mine, but I really don't want one of the other ones. :(

Hi All....A Canadian checking in.... here is the official explanation of Victoria Day (check out the Canadian explanation after the "official" explanation!!):

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Victoria Day

In Canada, the celebration of Victoria Day occurs every year on Monday, prior to May 25th. It is the official celebration in Canada of the birthdays of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. Victoria Day was established as a holiday in Canada West (Now Ontario) in 1845, and became a national holiday in 1901. Before Victoria Day became a national Holiday, people had celebrated Empire Day , beginning in the 1890s as Victoria approached her Diamond jubilee in 1897.

(I don't know why this is coming in underlined - I guess 'cause I cut & pasted!)

CANADIAN'S EXPLANATION

We Canadian's call Victoria Day the May 2-4 weekend (you know beer 2-4...ha ha) - it's also a holiday from work - yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's kinda like your 4th of July celebrations!!!!! My Mom & I will decked out in our Canadian attire on May 23 in celebration of Victoria Day...look for us on the ship we won't be hard to miss we'll be in red & white ( :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )!!!!

Elaine
pirate: Black Anne Rackham

edited to take out all the "boring" official stuff...

QUEEN FOR A DAY? THAT'S ME. I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE QUEEN FOR A DAY!

It's a good excuse to celebrate, don't you think?

Okay... I'm seeing pin traders surfacing here. Do I need to make a list? Maybe we should have a pin trading meet while on board. Are you all bringing your pins? I really didn't want to schlep all the pins... Joe is NOT happy if I bring pins because he usually has to carry them...LOL I was going to bring a small bag, maybe my pin backpack... with a mix of pins.... but maybe we can do a Mystery swap or something if enough people are interested.
Joe is saying NO NO NO.....NO pins.....:rotfl2:
Maybe I'll tell him if he wears the grass skirt.. I'll leave the pins at home.... HA!
Kara.. the grass skirt plan sounds good. You tell Eric that Joe is wearing one and I'll tell Joe that Eric is wearing one...... ;)

I was planning on bringing a small pin bag along. A mystery pin swap would be fun :cheer2:

There will probably be pin trading at night. We will have to join in. And I am sure there will be a pin or 2 released :earboy2: We may get to know each other in line. LOL

Debbie

Oh man - pin trading? :headache: I thought I could escape it this time. That would mean another suitcase and a heavy one too.
I'll be doing good if I get on the ship with a couple changes of clothes - another suitcase might mean I can't bring the wheelchair and might have to wobble around slowly everywhere on my two little feet
Mystery pin swap is good tho
What wil be will be, will be, will be :rockband:

Oh yes, Pin Trading every night.. 7:30 pm in the atrium... unless of course one of the receptions is going on ... then they move the cart upstairs on Deck 4. LOL I'm always late for dinner.
If what I've heard rumor wise is true... there will be a LOT of special pins released on this cruise. My Disney Visa will be burning up!! I sure hope it's true because there was nothing special for the 10 night at all.. not even a St. Lucia port pin.... :sad2:
Let's see 4 new ports... plus the canal crossing.... throw in an artist choice and a Captains Choice...... start saving your $$$$$$$$$$$$ Pin prices at WDW went up .45... wonder if the ship will have the same increase... so far CA has not. At least there's no tax! Anybody have any idea what the duty free limit will be for this one?? :teeth:

So it sounds like we have some serious pin traders along!

We bought each of the kids a lanyard at WDW 3 or 4 years ago and told them they could fill that one lanyard and then we were done buying and they would have to trade for anything else.
:rotfl:
Last count I think my oldest DD was at about 35 Jiminy Cricket pins!
The others have a fair amount of their favorites as well. I've even picked up a few for myself along the way.
We've only traded with CM's - figured we probably don't have anything a real pin trader would want. I'd love to see some of your pins though!

Not to sound dumb or anything, but I have a question about the pins on that cart they have on the cruises. I've seen several that I wanted, but was not sure if they are for sale or you have to trade? Can anyone just purchase a pin off the cart? I've purchased several in Mickey's Mates though. Sorry, but I'm ignorant about pin trading :confused3

Thanks!
Robin

Take this for what it is worth... but I would hope the Reservation folks are fairly honest with each other.

For those of us in GTY limbo -- and I know there are lots of us -- our answers may come about March 15. I was talking to DVC Member Services today (and why I didn't write down her name I'll never know :sad2: ), but she said she has learned that a group has to confirm or cancel their space in early March. After that DCL should have a pretty good idea of who is fully paid and who is going to cancel (or be cancelled for lack of full payment). Once that is established, let the assignments begin!

I'm still out of luck because I can't view my reservation on line since we booked via DVC. They are treated like a travel agency and therefore anything about the booking has to be funneled through them. We probably won't know our stateroom number until we get our final documents in the mail. OUCH.

Randall
:earsboy:

Randall,

Hopefully your stateroom won't have oars sticking out of the side of the ship. ;)

Thanks for the info. Hopefully us GTY folks will get a nice upgrade. Come on Cat1!

Have fun!

For the DVC sailing folks; Has anyone recieved any documention for the cruise (i.e. Shore Excursion info)?

Does anyone else have any regional or "specific to you" pins? Those would be good ones to bring and exchange. Not sure what else there would be, but I've got a bunch from the Disney Store here in NY. Minnie as the Statue of Liberty for example. Also have Mickey as NYPD and NYFD, but don't have any extras of those left. I was stalked at the Grand Floridian once by a guy who REALLY wanted the FD one. Stopped wearing around pins that I wasn't willing to trade after that. Seemed like a wiser policy :)

Actually, I got into pin trading through Odyssey of the Mind, having been to World Finals a couple of times. I believe that's where the whole pin trading thing originated for Disney. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but our state coordinator was adamant that there really wasn't Disney pin trading prior to '98, when OM Worlds was held at Disney World. I haven't heard a rebuttal from any Disney people to relay back to her. Anyone else out there associated with OM? You or your kids? This cruise is keeping me from judging at Worlds this year. Oh, well. Sacrifices must be made.

Wow lots to catch up on just from this afternoon! Enjoying the snow here.

Book swap sounds good to me! Is anyone reading the Path Between the Seas? That book is sooo long and sooo few pictures! :) I am oh, 180 pages or so into it. I get to read it for 90 minutes a night at the gym... It's a really good book though. I don't wanna know anything more about de Lesseps though. And I haven't even gotten to the French failing yet...ugh. I wanna say ARE WE THERE YET???

Who else is exercising/dieting for the cruise? Bought some smaller clothes that don't quite fit but will in a short time. Of course by the time May gets here then none of my suits or jackets will fit. Oh well, time for a new wardrobe anyway! I hope to start tanning in a few weeks, but I have NO time for that between jobs so wish me luck. I prefer not to be the brightest (white) star on the ship when I get there...

Made our plane reservations today! :cool1:

We actually got very good rates through expedia for our multidestination trip. We were waiting to get confirmation from DD's teacher that she could take exams one week early before we committed to plane tickets. We plan to pay off the cruise tomorrow and make some reservations for excursions. Does anyone know if any of them are booked up already?
