My texture looks great, by the way.

Great job! Today the kids have dentist appointments and I'll stop at "The Mother Ship" to get Plus 3 joint compound on tinksdad's recommendation. Woo-hoo!

And Karen, is Ritters a frozen custard shop? We had one of those in Franklin IN when we lived there. It was to die for! I really miss it (but my waist line doesn't!).

Yup, frozen custard. Honestly, compared to the other ice cream shops around here, it's not that great. We've got a few places that make that really rich (read as fattening) ice cream. Don't know if anyone has tried Graeter's ice cream, but it is "to die for" as Scar would say. :) But the Dog's Night Out did draw us in to Ritters.

Since our DVD's were stolen from the van, the kids had nothing to watch on our trip to Cleveland....so instead we wrote lyrics about the hurricane set to the melodies of songs we knew. The paper is still in the van, but I'm going to try to remember as much as I can for one (of the three) songs.

This one is to the tune of "Follow the Drinking Gourd." It's a popular story/song about the slaves escaping slavery.....

la la la la la la la la (just warming up)

(chorus)
Get away from the Hurricane, Get away from the Hurricane
Storm surge, high winds, torrential rain,
Get away from the Hurricane

When the hurricane is a category 4
And it's heading to your front door
Get your flashlight, your batteries, your plywood too
Get away from the hurricane.

Bring your patio furniture inside
All your animals will run and hide
The shelter is there to help you survive
Get away from the hurricane

(chorus)
Get away from the Hurricane, Get away from the Hurricane
Storm surge, high winds, torrential rain,
Get away from the Hurricane

The highway is a parking lot
Make ice blocks in every pot
For the power will surely go out tonight
Get away from the hurricane

(chorus)
Get away from the Hurricane, Get away from the Hurricane
Storm surge, high winds, torrential rain,
Get away from the Hurricane

The next is to the tune of Hey, Baby.
Some of you may be familiar with this as it's a sail away song, complete with motions!

Chorus)
Hey, Hey Frances
Oh, ah,
You'd better go--oo--oo--oo--oo away from us!

Hey, Hey Frances
Oh, ah,
You'd better go--oo--oo--oo--oo away from us!

When I saw her coming toward our street
I said that's a storm I don't want to meet
She's so strong, she's so mean
The biggest hurricane I've ever seen

Chorus)
Hey, Hey Frances
Oh, ah,
You'd better go--oo--oo--oo--oo away from us!

Hey, Hey Frances
Oh, ah,
You'd better go--oo--oo--oo--oo away from us!

Evacuation means I could have got out
Now I have to stay here and ride the storm out.
My boat sank, my roofs gone
Staying here was wrong, oh, wrong

Chorus)
Hey, Hey Frances
Oh, ah,
You'd better go--oo--oo--oo--oo away from us!

Hey, Hey Frances
Oh, ah,
You'd better go--oo--oo--oo--oo away from us!

Ok, I swear this is the last one...
It's to the tune of the Raffi song Baby Beluga
notice it's plea to spare CC.

Hurricane Frances in the deep blue sea
Spins so wild and spins so free
The eye inside is 30 miles wide
We'd better go run and hide.

(Chorus)
Frances, oh, Frances
Frances, oh Frances
Is your water warm?
You're such a big storm,
Just look at the radar!!

We bought our plywood and we tried to put it up
We had to ask our neighbors for help.
The surge came in and sunk our boat
We really should have gotten out!

Frances, oh, Frances
Frances, oh, Frances
Just a small request
Please don't ruin the best
Island we know.

(Chorus)
Frances, oh, Frances
Frances, oh Frances
Is your water warm?
You're such a big storm,
Just look at the radar!!

2 1/2 hours each way without the use of a DVD player can make you loopy!!

And who was it that said I wasn't a geek?

Karen, those are great! It sounds like my family.

Sunday night, DH took the kids fishing while I went to choir practice. I came over after practice (bringing chicken to my hungry family). We sat on the pier singing all kinds of songs. DS swore that Awesome God was his good luck song, since he got a fish twice while we were singing that. DD switched over to Disney songs. Tiki Room and the King Louie song from Jungle Book were here favorite. Then there is our family's fishing song. Here's how it goes:

Come on little fishie, eat my worm.
Come on little fishie, eat my worm.
It's yummy and it's jummy and it's good for your tummy.
And while you're at it take the hook with it too.

or DD's version of the last line is
And while you're at it, you can smile at me too.

She says that if you mention the word "hook" the fish won't bite :)

Now the newbies will know we're crazy!

Cute song. We have a goofy one we made up when KT was a baby and cried all the time. "Hey there little Katie girl, Hey there little KT girl" Basically that's it for the lyrics, just sung over and over to our little made up tune.

The things we do for our children!! :)

Just be careful in there, it can get expensive......:space:

I hope the 'newbies' don't have to remember the songs, I'm laughing too hard to see all the words.

Love, love, love the songs! Especially the Hey Frances one since Hey Baby is my all-time favorite "cruise" song.

Maybe your crew can work on some holiday songs we can all sing when we get together. That will really make for a party!

No. There won't be a test.

Btw, sorry I didn't recognize you. I got back from a weekend away and had to go through 8 pages of posts so fast that things were a blur! :) Welcome! Glad you're joining us!

:rockband: You guys are hysterical!!!

To our newest cruisers.....can't say I didn't warn you!

Too bad none of us has the "Walt" suite....the piano would come in handy for the song-fest. Oh, I forgot, they don't let you play that piano! (Then take it out, and free up some floor space!)

Please don't ask my DH to sing his favorite song....the one he only used to annoy the kids with on road trips....."Tiny Bubbles" only he never remembers all the words. I bought him the Nemo musical snow globe (the aquarium in the dentist's office) because it plays Tiny Bubbles.

Off to read my mail and see if I can find news about CC.
And then......HEIGH HO...yes, Paul...it's off to work I go!

Have a great day everyone!

Stacey

Really... having gone thru both hurricanes...I really got a chuckle out of those... but "Hey Baby" was the only tune I actually knew. Boy I'm dating myself!!! ::yes:: I even have the original 45!

:sunny: today! Hooray! DH headed back south to the main house ... HA HA he has to work the rest of the week and I'm staying here to play! Big Pin event coming up this weekend...
He also gets to clean up the hurricane mess down there... ::yes:: Fair payback for the mess HE made here during the storm LOL

Sue: Welcome... as you can see, I'm a Goldielover...LOL

Virgil... have fun in the Burgh! I'm a transplanted 'Burgher myself. Miss the people but DO NOT miss the weather in winter. I'm still a die hard Steeler fan though...

I have NO idea why that came up twice.... sorry about that gang!

It's not like we need to pump up the post count....LOL

Stacey... thanks for the info on Curacao on the other thread.

Happy Tuesday everyone!!

Finally got the kids back in school!!!!! I felt a little sad as they walked off towards the bus stop. No more babies as DS is now in middle school.
I then took a nice long walk and had a latte with my neighbor.
I really should spend the day cleaning, but I am enjoying the peace and quiet too much! Its rainy and drizzly here today.

So, is there anyone still going to HERSHEY???
We are trying to make our final decision on wether to plan on going or not. We would love to go just to see the park and have fun, but would really like for the kids to meet others on the cruise.
Lisa- are you sure you can't pull yours out an hr early or so to make it??

Hope everyone has a great day!

Oh, I've never heard this on the radio! But we homeschool and when we read the book we had a CD to go along with it. We also saw the play done by our local children's theater group. It was WONDERFUL!

Tina - DH and I are still going to Hershey - but no kids. Sorry.
