For those who have adopted children (privately) and know nothing about the parents, have you ever worried that your child might grow up and end up marrying someone that was actually their brother or sister?

I'm adopted myself - but I was able to find out who my birth parents were when I was younger and going through my "Trixie Belden/Nancy Drew" phase..:rotfl:

I read one non-fiction book - where this actually happened - and another that was fiction..

Just curious if it ever crosses your mind..

That happened on an episode of My Big Redneck Wedding. I saw it on The Soup.

To clarify, they were not blood relatives. The adopted daughter married her brother, but she was adopted when she was a tennager so they didn't really grow up as brother and sister.

I adopted my daughter through an open adoption, and from what I know about her birth father there's a chance he has children scattered all over the countryside.

I guess you never know. :scared:

When I was much, much younger (13) my sister's future SIL became pregnant (at the age of 14) and her parents forced her to put her son up for a private adoption.. The only thing she ever knew was that it was a "local" adoption.. Many, many years later she married the father of her son and they had 5 daughters.. It was a thought that crossed their minds constantly because in this state, adoption records are sealed forever - no exceptions..:sad2:

My mom was adopted by my dad's father's sister. My parents were "first cousins" by adoption. What a family scandal when they got married. No one could get past the fact that they were first cousins but not blood related.

I have 2 half-sisters I've never met, although last I heard they live somewhere in Florida.

I guess it's good I'm not straight, one is only 6 months older than me and the other is only about 5 years older. That would just be too creepy! :scared1:

I am the adoptive mother to three sons. I must admit this is not something I've ever worried about.

No, I am not worried. I was adopted, but my husband is 6 months younger, no way that could have happened!

I have an adopted son, but from another country. I suppose it could be possible, but those are some mighty big odds!
