I already called my doctor, but was just wanting to hear experiences of other people who maybe have had the situation so I can relax a little...

I fell down trying to catch my toddler tonight on the side of my pregnant belly. I called the doctor and she said that I could come in for 'reassurance' of a heartbeat test but at 20 weeks there was nothing they could do if the placenta had detached. She said the chance was low, but I should be looking for bleeding and contractions.

I was going to go in to check the heartbeat, but the baby started kicking on our way there, so I don't think the heartbeat test would be further reassurance.

I guess I'm not really looking for advice, but I was wanting to hear from any mamas who fell during their pregnancies and were okay. It is a waiting game now, she said if I didn't start bleeding/contracting in 4-6 hours then the baby is fine. So I am nervous and trying to calm myself down.

Did this happen to anyone else?

I've fallen during both of my pregnancies and all babies have been fine!

With DD, I fell right outside of the hospital, on my way there for a baby event. They rushed me in the ER, fixed up my scraped up knee (I had to beg them not to cut my only good pair of maternity jeans!), and sent up to L&D to be put on a monitor. I was about 32 weeks pregnant and baby was fine. She was born at 37 weeks.

With my twins, I fell at 20 weeks. It was Christmas--I was carrying too many packages and couldn't see the sidewalk. I tripped and fell on the hard pavement and gifts. My daughter announced to my family, "Mommy was carrying too much CRAP and fell!" I felt ok but the next day, there was a lot of abdominal muscle pain and some crampy feelings. I was paranoid, called the dr and was set to L&D for monitoring again. They watched me for a while, did an ultrasound since I had twins, and sent me home. Everything was fine. They were born at exactly 36 weeks.

Pregnant women are more prone to clumsiness and falling. Don't worry too much-- stress isn't good for you!

I hope everything turns out ok.

I fell on the sidewalk when I was 7 mos pregnant. I fell forward and was able to put my arms out to break the fall, but I still bumped my belly on the ground. It didn't hurt, but I was terrified (not to mention embarassed, as it happened at a busy train station). I called my dr and he said the same thing that yours did - to watch for bleeding and/or contractions. Thankfully, nothing happened and my baby was fine. Since you're feeling the baby move, it sounds like things are ok for you.

Here's some pixie dust pixiedust: too.

P.S. My "baby" is now 9 yrs old!

I too have fallen. The dr told me there was SO much cushioning in there I should be fine, and i was :)

I fell at about 20 weeks pregnant with my second son. I slipped on a piece of paper on a slippery floor in my basement and fell right on my tummy. I called my doc, was sent to L&D at a local hospital and monitored for a couple of hours. Everything was fine, no trouble for baby or me. Relax, take it easy tonight and I'm sure everything will be fine!

I fell at about 13 weeks with DD (onto the corner of a desk and then the floor, OUCH!), and as OP mentioned, my OB also said there's really nothing they can do at that point. That said, as another poster said, they are very well cushioned in there and as long as he/she is moving around like usual and you're not experiencing any bleeding or cramping, I wouldn't stress.

With my first pregnancy I had Grand Mal seizures at the very begining of my 2nd trimester and at nearly 8 months. I don't remember if I fell with the first set, but my mom found me on the floor of the bathroom. I don't remember any of it, but refused to go to the hospital until later in the day when I was dehydrated from vomiting. All was fine (heart and contraction monitoring and ultrasound). The second set I also don't remember. I had a black eye and according to my mom I was sitting on the side of the bed holding my belly saying, "my baby, my baby" and rocking. So I am thinking that I did fall out of bed. This time I went to the hospital right away and had the same monitoring...all was fine and my NEW OB found a good neuro and got me on meds (I fired my first OB after the first set and how she handled it...and a few other issues).
If you are feeling no contractions and your little one is kicking up a storm that is a very good sign. If you have ANY concerns at all then go to the hospital and have them contact your Dr. Your body, your baby...go with your instincts :)

Good luck!

I fell down several steps in my home, on my rear, when I was about 15 weeks with my singleton. My sock slipped on one step and I hit really hard and then slid down several steps. The nurse at my OB/GYN told me to watch for bleeding, cramping and leakage of amniotic fluid. After a day or two of panicking, everything turned out fine.

Wow, I hope you are okay. When I fell while pregnant with my oldest I was actually admitted to the hospital as well as having an ultrasound done. This was a military hospital but it made me feel better and they wanted to make sure I did not go into preterm labor.

Just try to relax (I know it is hard) and pray for the best. :grouphug:

If there's a problem, your body will definitely let you know. There's no mistaking placental abruption! (Well, unless you have a bleeding previa, but thats another ball of wax.) Your little one is pretty well padded in there, just sit back and relax tonight, and let hubby chase after your toddler!

I fell twice with my first pregnancy. The first time I was about 4 or 5 months along and I was coming down the front porch steps (there are 3 to the ground) and completely missed the bottom step and fell tummy first on the concrete. The second time I was 9 months pregnant and fell tummy first on the grass after stumbling into a hole. Seriously, loss of balance and a severe case of pregnancy brain!!! Both times I called the doc and got the whole "watch for contractions, blood and/or pain, rest on your left side for a few hours" routine. No problems either time. And DD9 is awesome if not a little mouthy and I can only blame that on her stubborn mother....HAHAHAHA

Rest your worried brain, friend!

I fell during month 5 with my first born (ice) and in month 7 with my second (chasing the 1st who broke the latch on the screen and was making for the road!). Both times I landed on my belly, and both times both me and hte baby were 100% fine. The kids are now 8.5 and 6, with no ill effects.

Scary though! I'm glad the baby kicked up a fuss for ya, so you'd know he/she was safe. I can't wait till the one I'm hatching now starts to be feelable. Makes it so much more real!

Hello. I am embarrassed to admit this but when I was pg with my first child- Owen- who just turned 7- my dog was attacked by another dog and I fell down trying to protect my dog and fend off the attacking dog. Yes I know idiotic but the dog was my baby at the time.

Long story short he was born strong and healthy and remains that way to this day. Babies/kids are very resilient thankfully. The cartilage and bones are not developed yet so they withstand alot more than us adults.

Take care and HTH!

I'm 20 weeks now, and fell about 3 weeks ago on the ice. Dr. didn't even bother with me coming in at all, but I had a home dopplar monitor so I checked the heartbeat on my own. My neck was killing me the next day (i think whiplash or something).

I also tripped on the curb with DD. I don't remember how far I was, but I was further than 20 weeks because I had a big belly (which I do not have now).

When I was that far along with #2, I fell down the stairs while holding my toddler, on concrete, face-down, so I cradled my dd instead of bracing for the fall. I had a HUGE bruise on my belly from dd's feet. I called my OB, and she assured me that my baby was safe and cushioned in there.

I also fell down a whole flight of stairs when I was 41 weeks - didn't even go into labor!

It happened to me when I was preg with DS. I was carrying sleeping DD (she was 6 and like 60 lbs so it isn't my fault- she messed up my equalibrium LOL) and I fell forward right on top of her (oops) I was about 5 months
Then when we were on a cruise, I banged my belly on the wall that seperated the pool thing when I was climbing up it.
Just watch for cramping and bleeding, like the Dr said. You'll know if something's wrong.
When I got pregnant with DS, I had had 2 MCs, so I had a doppler at home because I was paranoid from 8 weeks until I was 6 or 7 months and the kicks couldn't possibly be mistaken for anything else.
If you start to get worried, put a nice cold glass on your belly :-)

Thanks for all the kind replies, they really helped me last night.

No bleeding, no contractions. The baby has still been moving this morning, so I think we are in the clear. My belly is VERY sore on the side I hit it on, but besides that I feel okay.

Thanks for all the encouragement.:flower3:

Good to hear that you and baby are doing fine. A little pixiedust: to make your ouchie better. :)

I fell down about six stairs head first on my back with my toddler on my preggo belly. Luckily I had my ultrasound the next day. All 3 of us were fine.

I dont have a personal story (being only 13) but my Auntie slipped when preg with her second daughter. She was carrying the other one, and she was outside (In the cold land of MD) and slipped on a patch of ice. All three of them were fine (despite a couple bruses on Auntie)
