2 1/2 men

I like Ashton Kutcher, but I think the show would have been fun with Herb moving into Charlie's house.

For the record, the character's name is Walden - not Warren :). Walden Schmidt. And IMO, he's more a naive Charlie than an adult Jake.

I agree with this. And I don't think anyone has to worry about Broke Girls being similar. It won't be around long.

I didn't like Broke Girls either...big dissapointment.

I love Ashton so I will reserve judgment for a couple of weeks ;).

We enjoyed it here and are looking forward to more. :)

No canned laughter - studio audience. They laugh at the funny parts, so does the home viewer (usually). Modern Family doesn't tape in front of an audience, so you have to guess where to laugh ;).

The live studio audience are told when to laugh = "canned laughter"...

Nobody told me when to laugh and I had some hearty chuckles... :goodvibes

But that's why there is Chocolate Vanilla and Strawberry... and a million different channels/shows. :thumbsup2

And I cannot for the life of me remember where this appeared, but I think before the show started, there was a graphic that said "Charlie who?" Ouch.

I went back through the show(have it recorded for DH, also recorded "How I Met Your Mother") and I didn't see anything, I wonder where you saw it. You have me curious now LOL.

True, but it wasn't very believable to me that Walden was that inteiligent, but maybe I have watched too many 70's Show reruns....:rotfl:

Oh no! That's weird. I don't think I dreamed it! lol
I'll see if I can find what I saw.

I'm thinking it was in a commercial, it may have been a local one because the CBS news affiliate kept hyping about how they were going to discuss the show and the reactions on the 11pm news.

I agree with the bolded--that would have been a funny show. I watched last night. While I did laugh a bit, I just don't see it lasting too long. It did get great ratings, but let's see what the future holds. I'm not a big AK fan myself.

No, they're not. I've been in studio audiences. We laugh when a line is funny. Nobody tells the audience when to laugh.

You might be thinking of the "applause" signs for talk show audiences?

Did anyone catch the cans at the end where Chuck L. normally puts some words?
I took it as "Canned!" (Charlie fired...)

Oh, I missed that, usually that's the funniest thing after the show. I think a lot of people don't realize what it is, as unless you have a DVR to stop it and read, it mostly just flashes on the TV.

No, I've been in them too. Although...maybe I'm dating myself :rotfl: and they don't do that anymore! It's been awhile.

The laugh tracks always distract me in a show. Just personal preference. And now I'm totally OT. Back to Ashton vs. Charlie. Or Charlie's ghost. There we go, have a story where the place is haunted by Charlie, and it turns out it isn't a ghost..he's really not dead. I like the idea crazy Rose has him locked up somewhere

I believe the story would have played better by having an extended funeral scene, with a few memorials maybe by Chelsea or Mia or Jake. It all seemed so brief. After that part in last nights episode, Charlie was pretty much gone from the rest of the show, which I guess is what they ultimately want to do. However I think the remainder of the show should have still been based on Charlie and they should have waited a show or two to introduce this new character.

I got the impression that the studio audience at the time of filming were not completely sure who the replacement for Charlie would be. I had heard Stamos and perhaps "Greg" were possibilities. As they came into the picture, the audience were aware that they were in the running. The Kutcher came on and the audience went wild when they knew he had been chosen. Did I dream this?

Oh, please. Three quarters of that show was canned laughter or electronically boosted laughter, if you prefer. If you believe otherwise, you are very very naive.

Really, why does any of this matter???? :confused3

The ratings, as expected, were through the roof. Lots of curious watchers I'm sure, who will drop off as the year goes by. My son is on a fansite and though they are diehard fans, the consensus was positive.

I hope it succeeds. I do not miss Charlie and the rest of the cast needs to be showcased.

Who cares? The laughter at my house wasn't canned!! I haven't watched the show in years and DH and I thought it was HYSTERICAL!! :rotfl2:

No, I think they knew AK was the replacement, that news has been out there for a while. "Greg" (Thomas Gibson) is the lead on another CBS, Criminal Minds. He wasn't in the running to take over for Charlie Sheen. I do think Stamos was a possible replacement. I also heard Hugh Grant was in the running as well.

NOt a big Ashton fan here, but we really enjoyed the episode as well.
Time will tell if AK can keep the momentum up as Charlie did.... I do hope they don't keep him naked for every show.... It was funny, yes, but that will get old.

I thought having the old girlfriends there was spectacular. :rotfl:
