I've never planned Disney before. I've gone many times since I was a kid and an adult, and never made an ADR in advance. I've used fast passes but only ever off the ticket I purchased at the ticket booth the same day. Geez, I didn't even know you could book fast passes in advance prior to this planning this trip this year!
However, my DH really hates Disney, so I feel that I need to do everything in my power to minimize waits and make the day flow better. He is very impatient and if a line is longer than 5-10 minutes he will get irritated. My kids are probably more line patient than he is, LOL! He also has an awful poker face and I can instantly tell when he is annoyed which makes it a downer for me. His only trip to Disney was 6 years ago when we did a 4 day trip to Universal and Disney. On our first of two Disney days (we'd planned full days at Epcot and Hollywood Studios), he flipped out saying how he should have pushed for going to Kennedy Space Center because Epcot was awful. I ended up in tears at customer service and was refunded the 2nd day of our two-day Disney tickets. He apologized for his behavior later and we did up going to Hollywood Studios the next day (had to buy a single day ticket as a result of the previous day's refund). He seemed to enjoy HS better than Epcot, or was just trying harder for my benefit.
He's willing to go on this trip because of the children with the added sweetener of a visit to the Kennedy Space Center before heading over to WDW. He has promised to put on a happy face for the children, so fingers crossed. So maybe I'm setting up myself for disappointment, but I'm hoping that by planning for SDFPs and using touring plans to build itineraries that minimize waits, I can prevent some of his sourness about Disney. I've built in mid-day breaks for us on multiple days, and am even sending him and DS back to POR for a five hour break on our long MK day while DD and I dine with Cindy and friends at her Royal Table, LOL!
He is super excited for our auto-train ride home, so he will have something to look forward to throughout the trip!
So, while I probably would normally have just winged it pre-DH, I'm going all in on the planning this trip
