For the first time, we're venturing off Disney property proper and headed for Hilton Head for our Thanksgiving trip.

We're pretty pumped. We spent some time in Charleston a couple of years ago (Charleston Place ROCKS), and will head there again.

So for you Hilton Head veterans (and especially any of y'all who have visited over Thansgiving), what do I need to know - local restaurants, day trips, stuff available on property, etc. I want to hear from folks in the know who can give me something different than I can get from the usual official Disney sources. Insider tips, things your family enjoys - that's what I want.

Thanks!

Come to Savannah! It's better than Charleston :)

The best burgers are at the Resort....if Joyce is cooking! She is sometimes at the Beach House and sometimes at the Pool House.

For other food, the ones in the PERKS book are all good. We ate at a brick oven place near Sea Pines this last fall that was very nice.

Signe's (the one Rachel Ray ate at when on HHI) has a marvelous breakfast and isn't too far from the resort.

The Hilton Head Diner was quite nice also.

Harbor Town and the South Harbor both have good places, but, you have to pay to get into Sea Pines.

The River House here in Savannah is very good also. It is on the River also!

We just took our first trip to HHI at the end of March & absolutely loved it.

Signe's is a must!! The service is not particularly warm & fuzzy, but their baked goods are to die for (I particularly enjoyed the carmel sticky, sticky buns!).

Following some advice we found here, we also hit the Sea Shack. It is definitely nothing fancy, but it reminded me of a cafeteria we used to have here & the seafood was really good & reasonable.

We also liked the Salty Dog...I had a shrimp poboy that was really good. We also stopped at the Island Fudge Shop in Coligny Plaza & their fudge is remarkable!

We did not like Charley's Crab at all...pricey & food was mediocre at best.

As far as things to do, we just thoroughly enjoyed hanging out on the beach & at the Beach House.

So, I'm no expert, but these are the things we enjoyed on our first trip & we are totally looking forward to going back to see what else we can get into!! :woohoo:

Actually, we've been to Savannah several times, and loved it, too. But neither of the kids have been to Charleston, and they've both been to Savannah on school trips.

Thanks, all. Still wondering what to do about Thanksgiving dinner.

We just got back (March 30th - April 6th). It was our first trip to HH too. Party consisted of me, DH, 3 17 year olds (my two and a friend), and my
70ish parents.

If you plan to golf, DF and DS did NOT like Indigo Run course, loved Oyster Reef (if I have that name right - pretty sure;) )

Shelter Cove Marina is right across from resort - restaurants there that we liked very much - San Miguel's - good mexican. Little Venice - very good italian. King Fisher's (again I'm not sure about the name, it's over the bridge to the left), not to mention the shops. There's so much right there to do running all over the island is really a choice. For instance, we did the dolphin tour (just our party on the boat, right from the resort - and the dolphins came right up to the boat), the fishing excursion for the kids - again, just them on the boat and right from the resort (they all caught (and released) little sharks, and had a GREAT time), the history tour, again just us on the bus! A personal historic tour of the island! Left right from the resort.

The beach house - resort offers pick up and drop off to and from. The beach house has direct access to that gorgeous beach. The "restaurant" at the beach house has really good burgers and onion rings, as well as their tuna sandwich, salads. Perfect for a beach/pool day. Drinks aren't bad either:cutie:

We ventured out a couple of nights for dinner, once was Hilton Head Brewery - don't do it. Poor service, yucky food.

Oh - Guiseppe's!!!! YUMMMMMYYYY. I'm a New York italian, we find it difficult to find really good sauce(the key IMHO) & pizza in italian restaurants outside of home (Just MHO) Guiseppe's is excellent - all the food - really good sauce. And I don't remember the name of the ice cream place that's right next to it (anyone?), but yum for dessert.

We ordered in the first night (late arrival) and got the food from Guiseppe's - we ordered pizza, hero's and salads. All delicious at reasonable prices. Wound up going there for dinner a couple of nights later.

Enjoy Disney's Hilton Head - it's awesome. Happy planning!

Ice Cream place is called Brusters -- excellent. Try the chocolate rasperry truffle ice cream.

You need to check and see if the resort is still doing this.....ordered a complete Thanksgiving Dinner from DVC.....Deep Fried Turkey....can we all say YUMMY!!

We invited hubby's family and everyone enjoyed this dinner!

Have fun at the resort - it is really beautiful and relaxing.

Welcome to HHI for Thanksgiving! Just a warning-it can be addictive. They offered the deep fried turkey at the resort last year, but for less than half the price, Piggly WIggly offers one too. But you don't get it delivered by Piggly Wiggly-you have to pick it up. Last year, Signe's offered a turkey dinner, but it was only for 2 or 3. Since there's just 2 of us, we're really hoping they offer that again, but it's not for a whole family. There are lots of activities offered by the resort that week, including a Thanksgiving day football game on the beach, with team t-shirt making in the AM. The resort itself is very busy, at capacity, but the island didn't seem overly busy. And DH got to golf Thanksgiving morning at a reduced rate, a definite plus for him. Overall, a wonderful week.
