1st time DL ?

we are going just for the day with our 5 and 2 yo our main trip is san diego. may seem silly ? but is adventure DL park separate from DL park? are they separate tickets ?

Yes, they are separate theme parks, but only a few minutes walk across from each other. You can visit both in a day if you get a park hopper ticket.

Yes, as stated above, Disney California Adventure (DCA) and Disneyland (DL) are two separate parks requiring two separate entry tickets. You can buy single tickets (1 park only) or a park hopper (allows entry into both parks). The Disneyland Resort website or the DLR app (free to download) will have the prices listed for the date of your visit. (And your 2yo will be free!)
