150 Points - Certain Limitations?

Hi,

I have been mulling over whether or not to buy into DVC and I now think we probably will next year. My question is this, in the fine print it talks about the current minimum purchase price being $14,700 (150 points). But then it says, "Certain limitations may apply to the $14,700 price." What exactly does that mean? What are the limitations? Are they just talking about the fact that that wouldn't be enough points to stay a whole week in some resorts, or is there some other limitation(s) they are speaking of?

Thanks in advance!!!

Well not sure about the price but I think it is because it is subject to change, either up or down. In fact the price per point will increase in about a week to 101 per point at SSR making it 15150 without any incentives.

As for point limitations you are correct in that 150 points won't be enough to stay for a full week at some resorts. But it all depends on what type of room and during what season.

150 points will get you a full week in a studio during Adventure, Choice, Dream and Magic season at BC. It won't get you in a one bedrom at all, minimum needed is 200.

Same for WL.

Same for BW for a preferred/boardwalk view and std view as well. Minimum needed for a std view one bdrm is 162 points.

150 points at OKW will get you a studio during all 5 seasons, (see above plus Magic season). But not in a one bedroom as the minimum needed is 160 points.

150 points at SSR will get you a studio during 4 of the 5 seasons (all but magic) at SSR but nothing in a one bedroom as the minimum need is 182.

As Cobbler noted, all members are limited by the number of points they have available at any given time. With 150 points, there are some options that would require more points. However, with banking and borrowing even those options can be within reach.

The original minimum to purchase was 230 points and that has been lowered over the years to the current 150 point minimum for purchase thru DVC directly. Resales have no minimum and some have been able to purchase as few as 25 points (which is the smallest contract available to anyone).

Enjoy!

That does mean the limitation is the current pricing, incentives, etc. As cobbler noted, the price will go up shortly, though DVC usually offers some sort of incentive. Any limitations as to where, when, and what type of room you can book will be a result of the number of points you buy. As WebmasterDoc says, by banking and/or borrowing points, you can save enough points in any given year to meet most needs you would have. paw:

I think the limitation is 150 points might not be enough to trade out for a week at some of the World Passport or Adventurer Collection locations.

I have 150 points to start and have 2 nice vacations planned, one to Vero Beach and one to WDW. We will be staying in a studio, but that's fine for us. I would eventually like to add on but can't at this time. So I making due with the 150 and getting happy.

If you stay clear of the Fri/Sat nights you can have ALOT of nice vacations with 150 pts.

We have done very nicely with our 150 points - and have never stayed in a studio! Last year 5 days in a 1-bdrm at OKW was 100 (June) pts which allowed us to save for 5 days in a OKW GV (Sep)!

Two years ago - 2 nights at OKW, 2 at BCV and 2 at VB (May) - all on points.

We feel we are living high on the hog on our 150 - would love to have more - and plan to in the future. But, we will never compain about what our 150 has given us so far!

I own at BWV 200 points, Got 19 nights in a studio with points left over this year. That's pretty good to me.

That is a bueaty! Obviously it would be awesome to have 1250 points and go 4 times a year during peak seasons. I don't have that budget nor that much time off! And others are in the same boat!

But if you can make do with dates and resorts you can still have a wonderful vacation!

I think you have to have 160 pts to be able to trade out for a week at one of their member getaway programs. We started out with 160 pts. We just bought on Friday, got our membership # over the phone and are able to book now! (well, Monday, when reservations opens.)

DH called on Friday about 4th of July timeframe for studios and nearly all resorts were available, which really reassured us!

I remember something about trading with II required you to have more then 150 points.I think thats the limitations they are talking about, but when we joined we werent considering trading our week to stay off property. If we were going to do that we would have bought across the street at the Vistanna(resale only 5 grand) and you got an II and RCI memebership

Yes, it's just the number of points you have access to. But you know the interesting thing, if one dedicated 3 years worth of points and planned ahead, that might even be enough points to get a 3 BR but would certainly be more than enough to have for a 2 BR every other year.
