150 pointers out there?

3DisneyNuts-

The amount of points you have is what you can afford right now... right? Then don't worry about having a few more until you can afford more AND until you see how many more you would really need. How many times per year can you afford to make the trip and to be away from work? Just owning more points does not cover the entire expense of each vacation.

If you choose to go on the off-seasons, you can stretch those points, plus the crowds aren't as bad, etc. Trim your stays to avoid the weekends. For the amount of time we spend in the room, a studio is not a hardship (but a one bedroom is so much nicer!).

Carefully consider before using your points for other uses, like cruises. Maybe it would be better to just pay cash?

I'm certain that you will enjoy using your 150 points and after a while, if you see you need more, maybe you'll be able to afford them.

Perhaps you will add on one day, but til then, just enjoy your DVC points as much as we do ours.

Be delighted in having 150 points!!!...that's so much better than zero!!!!! Right!?! With banking and borrowing, that gives you lots of points and great vacations at WDW! Think about everyone who wishes they HAD 150 points and could be in DVC!! So, don't worry...enjoy the points you can afford and start planning those great vacations!
:jumping1:
As I said before, enjoy your points and don't let others talk you into thinking you can't do great with 150 points!!!

CONFUSED CONFUSED!. I just booked on the wonder using my points. I saw that people were saying cash may be better then points but here is how I figured it out. We are doing the 3 night cruise. We used 158 points now if I rented those points I would have made $1580 the cruise we booked was a little over $1600 if I paid cash so I don't know how using cash would have been better BUT I also did not shop around for deals either. I just went off the Disney Cruise line site for the price.

I am seeing how later on if I go on one of the longer cruises I would probably pay cash since it uses so many points. PLus then I would really shop around for a deal then since the longer cruises are so expensive in both points and cash :)

Yes, we have 150 points and we're perfectly satisfied! There's just two of us, and this allows us a great vacation each year at a price that fits in our budget and time schedule.

Be thankful for what you have. We all must live within our means. Those 150 points will give you many happy memories at WDW.

We bought in 1993 and the minimum then was 210 points. As things got better for us we added on very slowly and cautiously. The first add on was 50 points and that was a lot for us. But as time went on we had add on itis and now have 600 points. So, we were very fortunate and hopefully you will be able to add on in the future if that is what you want to do. We are now able to enjoy more vacations at WDW and also include our family (we had a family reunion last year and it was awesome) and friends.

Enjoy what you have now as most of us started out with a lot less that we have now, so you don't know what the future will bring.:Pinkbounc

We have 150 and have considered adding on from time to time but actually bank most of them every year. But we have started going down for long weekends a couple times a year and it all works out. Yep, better than zero and works for us just fine.

600 that is amazing! Tell me are the maint fees taxes a killer? We could afford more points but the fees would be the downside. We can afford them as well but to take on a bill over $100 a month just in fees doesn't seem practical. Well neither does dropping 13k on a vacation club either LOL. I know for 600 pts you have dream vacations and can take family with you if you would like which is an awesome advantage. WOW that is my dream. :)

We have 150 at OKW and it's been enough for us for small, off-season family visits.

We have 1500 points and can't get enough. We go down 6 times a year for at least a week.

Hi. We bought in to DVC in '96 at 150 points at OKW, and we were able to do a lot with them for the first 7 years. But when we saw BCV was going to sell out, we added of 56 points there so we'd be able to stay in a studio every year or 1-bed every other year for 4 nights with 11- month booking capacity. Love that Stormalong Bay!

Also, since DS came along, we found that we like bringing other families with us, so that eats up points faster.

We paid cash for our cruise, though. With DS being just under 3 when we go, he doesn't have to pay other than taxes and port charges, so our cruise is under $1,000.

We'd love to have even more points, but we watch the monthly maintenance charge, too.

3DisneyNuts---yes the maintance fees are steep, but so far we are ok with them. I guess we figure that if it gets to be too much we will either turn them over to our 2 children or we could always rent (heaven forbid) out a chunk to cover them. We have never done that and probably never will, but it is an option.

As for our family ---here is a cute story. Our 90 year old Aunt has been coming down with us for the past three years and we thought it may have been too much for her this year. Well she informed me that her annual pass was going to expire on June 16, so guess what? We are going June 6 thru June 15, who would have figured that? She just loves it!!!!!:hyper:

I have 150 and am "borrowed" to the hilt due to our 9 night stay in a 2 bedroom coming up soon. However, our family are not Dis-crazy like me, so a once-in-a-lifetime stay for them is adequate.

Otherwise, I think 150 will be fine for the two of us. We love the other resorts as much as DVC so we supplement using AP rates when available.
