Hi Gang!!

Debra - How do you keep track of how many calories things are especially when going out to eat? I know that is the hardest part when I am out. I agree with you that the age old adage of eating less calories than you use works the best :goodvibes
Linda

Linda, I use websites to look up calories. This one has a lot of info on it:

http://www.calorieking.com/foods/?partner=cmwm

If you go to a chain restaurant, you can usually find calories on their websites.

Packaged foods from the store on their calories on the packages. And in general I tend to know a ball park figure of most calories because I have been counting them for most of my life!

Cheryl: WELCOME!!!! This is a great group and everyone is very supportive. It has helped me a lot to have a place to come and talk to others going through the same journey that I am going on.

Today is my first day back on track after a week of my kids being away and DH and I eating out every night. I did gain 1 pound all together, but that will come off quickly, I'm sure.

I have a big watermelon in my fridge. It weighs 14 pounds (yes, I weighed it on the scales). It seemed really heavy when I was carrying it, and when I weighed it, I realized that is about how much more I want to lose. I am carrying a watermelon on my body all the time!

So it is onward and downward! Hope everyone has a good weekend. It is raining nonstop here and our grass is so high, but we can't mow because it is always wet!

Debra

Morning again

It is 11:15am and I have already walked 8,457 steps!!

Goal is 10,000+ each day so I should be ok today.

Thanks Debra and Tara for the websites. I really think I need to take a look at what I eat.

Off to dry the sweat off my body..... :rotfl: walked to the local bookstore to pick up our copy of Harry Potter....alittle toasty outside. :sunny:

Have a Magical Disney Day!!
Linda

Hello, everyone!

I am doing great and it sounds like everyone else is, as well! Woo hoo!

Although I am pulling all my hair out...why did I wait until the last minute to get my homework done! Ah, somethings never change...I'm sure I got those comments on my report card, "It would be advisable if Lisa would take time in planning out her work before STRESSING ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME!" LOL! If my teacher said that I would crack up. Anywho, I have 2 more books to read today, a paper to write, and another 100 books to review. Don't doubt me...I know I will get it done! :)

Have a fabulous day! :)

Lisa

Linda!! Wow you are rocking on the walking!!! That will surely get the body in shape for losing losing losing!!! :)

Lisa....whew! I still have nightmares about college papers and high school reports to turn in...I was the best procrastinator but for some reason it always worked for me...I worked much better under pressure...so here's to you using all that built up steam to shoot off all that work in record time! :) I really really wish stress could burn more calories than running! :)

WOW!! What has happened to women's sizing in the past 10years??? I've spent way too long in the "X" categories (1x, 2x) and now that my body is reshifting with all this walking...I decided to buy a pair of size 10 pants yesterday....I have about 3 pair of size 10's but these looked roomy and said stretch on them...they were by Jones of New York..was I shocked when they buttoned and zipped with no problem! My waist even had a good inch of room! But my hips and thighs were putting the stretch element to the test! :) I could wear them out in public...I've seen so many others wear them that way but I hope they'll look much better with 20 pounds off and I'm hoping they won't be too big! They were 75% off and I couldn't pass them up. I have a pair of size 10 levi jeans that are straight leg and I know I'll have to be 150 just to squeeze into those puppies...but this size 10 I tried on must really be more like a 12 in the olden days....and I bought all Medium size tops and they all fit me perfectly now..so does that mean in 25 pounds I'll need a small? Have things changed that much in 10 years? I don't ever remember wearing small shirts..those were reserved for my 5'8 friends that weighed 115 pounds! I just can't figure it out...but it was a boost and keeps me motivated to get out of the 170's this month! :)

Tara

Sizes have changed some Tara. But, I am guessing the key word to the pants is "stretch". I really don't know why they make stretch jeans in smaller sizes. Anyway, if you aren't too big and you aren't too small, they can look pretty good. If you are too big, they tend to make you look like a potato on 2 sticks, because they usually stretch quite a bit. If you are too small, they just hang. They don't have the same shrink value that regular jeans have.

Enjoy them now and the fact that you can wear some size 10's. My guess is that in 20 lbs, they won't fit at all and you will proudly be wearing a NO STRETCH version. As far as tops, just be careful with them. I used to buy mediums for DD17 and smalls for DD15, but now buy the next size up since most of the time, they shrink terribly in the wash. DD17 is 5"7' and weighs about 130lbs. I was her size in HS and always wore mediums. She can wear them now and they look great on her in the store, but after washing, they are too small most of the time. I think it is because they don't pre-shrink fabrics anymore. :confused3

Everyone keep up the good work. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi to All

It is 4 pm and I have hit the 10,000 step mark WOO HOO :cool1:

Need to share this as motivation for myself...........

Now I am a petite (about 5'1") and I have to wear a large. If I go with a misses size then it is a medium but the sleeves are waaaaaaaaaay too long. Wish I were taller.......as for pants....stuck in a size 14 petite

Tara HURRAH for you!! SIZE 10!!

I want to get down to a size 10.......keep walking keeping walking!!

Lisa Lisa Lisa - This is your "mother" talking - how many times have I told you to get your homework done first then play!! :rotfl2: Hope you get it done quickly. :cheer2:

Lesli - How is it going? Keep moving and losing! :moped:

Have a Magical Disney Day!!

Linda

Linda-One more babysitting job and there will be no more brat kids. I'm psyched about HP too!!!! Got it this AM and finished at about 4:30!!! :)

Well, gang. I didn't weigh in this AM...kind of scared of what could happen. I've not been BAD, just not real GOOD. I really splurged at Olive Garden...in a healthy way! 2 breadsticks! 2 helpings of salad! Whole wheat pasta with meat sauce! Berries and custard sauce for dessert! Stuck in a rut, I tell ya! Buddy...I can kiss my FPs good bye.

There has GOT to be something I can do to lose more. I'm stuck and sticking...and it's my food that's got to change. Is there anything else I can do?

Tara tara Tara-CONGRATS!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Welcome Cheryl!!!! :)

Tara

Remember last week I was saying the same thing!

I cleaned out my closet and found some jeans and a scooter skirt from 10 years ago and they were size 16s and I could zip them! But I was buying size 10s at the mall on the same day!

I held them up to each other and it is clear that my size 16s from 1996 are smaller than my size 10s from last week!!!

I don't know when this happened either because it was 10 years ago my weight gain started, and like you, I have been in the Plus sizes for quite some time now.

I am wondering what size I will be when I do lose my last 15 pounds. I can't even imagine a size 8. I have NEVER EVER in my life been in a single number size. I went from wearing kids clothes to a size 10 in Juniors.

I am sure that a size 8 in Misses isn't like a Juniors size 8, but hey, it would be cool to put something on with a single digit (even if it isn't really an 8 as I think of a size 8).

BTW, I did some searching on the internet, and it is true, sizes have changed in the last 10 years. They shift 'medium' to be what is the average size for women and build the sizes from there. So you are right, Tara, they have changed.

Debra

Well, thank you clothing industry for helping my self-esteem today! :) I've been proudly sticking my chest out and wearing my medium sweater/shirt that is snug fitting on my WAIST!!! YES I HAVE A WAIST NOW!!! :) I can even grab my hip bones when I stand! :) I think gravity has shifted all my bulk to lower regions...I won't be able to look in a 360 mirror for atleast 15 more pounds! :) My front looks really nice but my back I'm sure is carrying the load! :)

I was supposed to slimfast for dinner but I had one chicken selects tender and my friend made some homemade salsa from vine ripened tomatoes and I HATE tomatoes but I LOVE salsa...so I just had to try some of her salsa...oh wow!! Salsa is amazingly good when it's fresh from the garden!!! I'm definitely growing tomatoes next year!!! So I had a handful of corn chips with salsa...so hope my dinner was about the same calories as my slimfast would have been...really trying hard to stick to under 1500 a day.

Need to go wash it down with some water....a road trip is in the works for the next few days...tomorrow night my nieces have a YMCA swimming party..I'm planning to take advantage of the lap pool while my kids play....and Monday I"ll try to get my walk in while at my mother's...then back to AL to get back to morning walks....I've been dragging this week not having walked but once. It really does give me more energy! :)

Let's knock some poundage off this week gang....
TC2009....Olive Garden salads are the BEST aren't they? I don't think you did too bad....jump on that scale you may be surprised! And when you jump on it..just smile and say.."this is the last time I'll see that number!!!" I say that to myself each week and really it usually sticks to truth!!! Just keep thinking about the new numbers you'll see weekly! :)

Tara

Hi Tara!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

I might have to jump on the scale tomorrow. My weight does funky things at night. Good idea...I will have to try that!

I went shopping and could NOT find a top to wear for the play my church is doing. Not that they didn't fit (we shopped at goodwill) the selection was poor!!

I'm the same way! I hate tomatoes, but LOVE salsa! How do you make your own? Do you have a recipe? I just love the salsa at the Mexican restaurant here (Carlos O'Kellys--don't know if it is a national chain). I always box up most of my dinner and eats lots of chips and salsa!

Did you know that on Weight Watchers salsa is a 'free' food. You don't have to count it (it is like a vegetable). The chips on the other hand are not free (so load up on the salsa).

Now I am hungry! Thanks Tara! ;)

Debra

I'm going to have to write down the salsa recipe...it just tastes like a bit of sunshine! ;) I know she said she put her home grown tomatoes in it, chopped onions, she even grows her own peppers, and she puts a small can of tomato paste in it to thicken it up a bit, I think she also puts vinegar in it, too...I'll get the recipe and send it to you guys! She puts about a tablespoon of sugar in a pint jar size..I'd probably make it without the sugar cause I like the saltier salsa's...but this stuff was sooooo goood! I try to limit myself to about 8 chips and scoop loads on the chip....I'm so bad at getting my veggies in and never tomatoes...so salsa is great for me.

I was sooo craving something tonight...I could envision eating a bowl of Breyer's reese cup ice cream, a real reese cup, a handful of cheetos, oh my the list goes on...but I kept thinking "Will this get me to goal" and of course the answer was no so I had a big glass of water and I'm turning in. I might have to have some birthday cake tomorrow night but I'll make it a small piece and hopefully lots of swimming will kick up my metabolism. I managed to do more push ups today than I've done in a long time...gotta firm up those arms! :)

I probably can't post for a few days while out of town...everyone choose wisely, hug yourself, and act a little zany every now and then! Life is a joy and we've got to live it that way! :)

Tara

Well gang! I am completely perplexed by clothing sizes now...

I walked 2 hours this morning (about 7 miles)...reallly didn't mean to be gone that long but went down some long streets I thought would turn into a side street and after too long realized it was a dead end and had to back track...but really I'm not that tired...but I came home and weighed 176.2....ugh! That 65 pound clippie is mine in .2 pounds! Since this is the lowest I've weighed in a long time I decided to try on some pants I bought last year...they were on really big sales at Talbot's...I have two size 12's, one size 10 and one size 6...Can you believe they ALL zipped and buttoned without laying down on the bed??? I'm wearing one size 12 comfortably with extra room in the waist...the 6 was probably 2 inches too tight in the waist but really not uncomfortable...because I think I'm really more "fleshy" than solid around my waist from having 3 babies and reaching an all time high of 258 at one pregnancy...but come on...a size 6 fitting pretty close to a size 12??? Maybe it was just one of those styles that is supposed to look like balloon jeans or something...but this sizing thing is all screwed up...I HATE trying on clothes and just guesstimate...but I guess once I get to goal I'll really have to get to know one name brand well or try on everything!

But the best part is...WOW!!! I look hot! :) By my standards atleast! :) Have 3 day road trip..you guys be good and remember..."Will this xxxxx help me get to GOAL?" Fill the xxxxx in with 1. ice water 2. 3 mile walk 3. Krispy Kreme donut 4. yard work....if you chose (#1, 2, or 4) then YES YOU ARE A WINNER...If you chose (#3)...run, don't walk, to your nearest friend and let them eat it for you! :)

Stay strong guys!!! We can end this summer atleast 10 pounds lighter than we are now! :)

Tara

Tara - SAFE TRIP!! We will miss you!!

I give up on clothing sizes!! The labels were put there to play games with our minds!!

Have a Magical Disney Day!!
Linda

Hello, hello, hello!

How is everyone doing?

I am in the final stretch of my homework completion. And, no, I'm not slow...there was a grand total of 25 things to do for this class - read six books, review 150 books, visit three libraries, etc. I will be thanking God for sure when this class is all done. I really don't mind the work...I'm just crabby because it's the summer!

I will try my hardest to post each day (it really helps me stay on track) for the next two weeks - taking 2 one-week classes. This one M-F 9am-4:30pm and next week M-Th 8am-3:30pm.

If I survive, I can make two jumps up on the pay scale this fall so I'm hoping I make it! ;)

On a high note, I weighed in today (for myself, of course) for my official Sunday morning weigh-in and the scale stayed the same at 198.5! I'm excited about that because I got ahold of some Oreo pudding cups last night...hehehe...let's just say I ate more than I should have! ;) Whoops!

Oh, and since I probably won't be on tomorrow morning...here is your thought for the week...and it's a good one!

Thought for the week:
"Whether you believe you can or believe you can't. You are right." - Henry Ford

Have a fantastic day!

Lisa

Hi all..newbie Cheryl here..Weighed in this morning and was only 1 1/2 pounds lighter. I thought I'd be less than that. But my body fat is at the lowest it's been(26.7) We'll have to see what happens next week. I think it's great you all can exercise that much..I wish I had the time. I did get on the treadmill for 30 mins yesterday (1.71mi) and will try to get back on in a little bit. I will also being doing an aerobics class twice this week. I find it pretty much easier at work to be good, then I do at home. Also have a big birthday party for 2 yo dd next Sat. One one side of my family there are 5 (very soon to be 6, my cousin is due any day)kids all under 5 born within 5 weeks so we're going to have one big party for all 5 kids. We figured it would be easier on the family to have one big party so everyone wouldn't be attending a birthday party every weekend in July. Ohh, I ramble...just thinking how to be good next week when I should just be worring about one day at a time!
Ha :flower: ve a great night!
Cheryl

Cheryl: that is a great loss! Losing between 1/2-2 pounds a week is really all someone should expect, and it will vary each week. It just takes time. More than we would like, but if you stick with it, you will get to your goal.

I am not an exerciser. I hate exercise. Actually, I hate getting all sweaty and having to get cleaned up again after I exercise. I don't think I will ever like it. I am going to try to walk once the kids go back to school, but so far, I haven't done any extra exercising. So what you are doing sounds super to me!

Tara Have a great trip! Can I borrow your size 6? Wow, it is so strange what is happening with clothes sizes. Sounds like we are at about the same size. I am in 10s now (haven't found one of those size 6s that would fit yet). But what can you do, I guess these are the sizes now days. I am wondering if I will actually end up in an 8 by the time I am at goal. I just can't understand that one!

Lisa Hang in there with the homework. It will be worth it. Love your thought for the week!

Linda 10,000 steps! WOW! I think I only do that when I am at Dinsey World! That is great! Have you ever wore your counter to a park to see how many steps you would do in a day at Disney World? That would be interesting.

Well, time to go do dishes. I am just using the computer as an excuse not to do them. :p

Take Care everyone!

Debra

Hello everyone :wave2: :wave2:

Didn't accomplish many of yesterdays goals. Did not make it to the gym. My mini ipod and shuffle both had dead batteries. Couldn't possibley go to the gym without music. :confused3 :confused3 Decided to go for a bike ride instead (didn't need music.) Rode for 8.5 miles in 38 min. Would have liked to go further but had to get cleaned up for a hair appt.

Food could have been better. Had about 2/3 of a 6"sub for lunch, a 150 meal replacement bar for breakfast, and 3 pieces of pizza for breakfast. Also only managed 36 oz of water and way too much soda (all of it diet)

Decided DD1's car needed exercise. It hadn't been started in 5 weeks as she is in San Antonio for her officer basic course (she is going to medical school courtesy of the US army and had to go for 6 weeks of training.) We went back to my mom's which is about 2.5 hrs away. Decided to go out for supper and had had a close encounter of the bambi kind on the way. The bambi ran into the front passenger side of her farly new Grand AM. She has had it only about 15 months. Luckily it was a small deer (still had spots) and hopefully didn't do too much damage. Have an appt Sat to get it estimated. She won't see it until next Sat night when she gets home.

DD2 emailed her a picture but it made the dent appear worse than it looks in person. Murphy's law - should have taken DD2's car which needs exercise also.

Didn't manage to exercise today. Drove home and started laundry. Had a major thunderstorm which didn't manage to cool it down much and managed to encrease the humidity level even more. Walked out of the grocery store and both mine and DD2's glasses steamed over.

Today's meals:
Breakfast - double chocolate muffin :sad2: 12 oz water
Lunch - macaroni salad, cube steak without bun, 16 oz iced tea
Drive home - 20 oz diet cherry pepsi
Snack - Hershey's take five candy bar (220 cals)
Supper - 100 cal bag lite butter popcorn, 12 oz diet cherry pepsi
Water - not much

Tomorrow is a new day and another opportunity to get back on track. Will try to drink more water, eat healthier and exercise.

Safe trip Tara!!! I will be going to Cedar Point Tuesday!!!

I weighed in this AM=175!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAH!!!!!!

Will talk more later...like tomorrow.

Hi!

I've been slowly getting back on track. I've been on the treadmill for the last 4 days for 90 minutes, and eating slightly better - still plenty of room for improvement! I went to my weigh-in Saturday morning and was up 2.6, but I'm not giving up my clippie! I knew I would be up, the question was how much. I can't weigh in again until Saturday, so I theoretically had a whole week to get it down. I don't think I've made much progress, but hopefully I will hit a sprint later this week. That's pretty improbable since TOM arrives Wednesday, but I can't let that stop me from trying! :flower:

We took our ds to see Charlie & the Chocolate Factory yesterday, and I limited myself to pretzel bites and chocolate covered raisins. I know, but it was better than having everything I wanted...Today we took a co-worker out for her birthday, and I had a blueberry tart with homemade vanilla ice cream. I'm not feeling like I'm trying very hard at this moment, but if I can limit it to one meal, I know that will help. I have a tendency to just blow a whole day, when I could just make it one meal that was less than stellar.

TigerCheer - you are doing great! I'm so proud of you! :cheer2:

Cheryl - a hearty welcome, you will love it here! Our family also does one giant kids birthday party in July, even though the birthdays are throughout the year. It's just easier to do family stuff in July and at Christmas, especially as the kids want parties with their friends.

Linda - you must be so relieved your daughter can access her money! I"m proud of you for all those steps!

Lisa - I know all that homework is daunting, but it will all be worth it in the end.

Kathy - like you, I've been having less than great days lately. Hey, that means there's room for improvement tomorrow, right?! :wave2:

Debra and Tara - I love to read about your sizes, you really give me something to shoot for!

So glad to be back, and looking forward to a good week! :grouphug:
