You can bet that I'm going to be watching it!! Thanks for the tip, Debra!!

It's Thursday night! Who's ready for the snow?! That's right, we're getting it in the Northeast, too. It's supposed to start to night, we may get about six inches. Here's the bummer -- that's not enough to close school or anything else. Yep, we'll be trudging through it tomorrow. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when we first moved out here and I found out that 12 inches of snow mean a "delay", but everyone still goes to their intended destinations.

It is however, enough to get me to cancel my hair appointment, so I will have all afternoon to treadmill...I did a half hour today, this time jogging at 4.2 mph/1.0 incline. It's good I'm easing into this. I'm not really sore yet, and that's huge for me. I also did some crunches and stretching last night, and I don't know when I last tried that. I read the December issue of Fitness magazine (I think I'm getting de ja vu and I already typed this, sorry if that's the case). I'm slowly getting into the right mindset, and that's really exciting for me. Once I get some momentum, the rest will come!

Jen -- Great job getting your fruit servings in! I can't remember the last time I actually got 5 in one day!

Debra -- I'm so glad you are liking the contacts. I also take mine out every day, just because I seem to have dryness issues. Every once in awhile I leave them in, and I love being able to see when I open my eyes!

Tara -- My sil also had the lazek in Montreal, and was thrilled. I am just such a baby (I swear, I kept that child inside me to make him overdue because I was afraid of the pain of his exit...) when it comes to anything body-wise, I don't think I'd ever do it electively.

Ivseeyore -- You, Tara, Kathy, etc. get the up and early awards! I am so impressed that you guys are lucid enough to take care of your families at those early hours! I get myself up and out the door, but that's all I can manage. Good job! And, I do hope you start having better days soon!

KS -- Fantastic eating! And you are starting a great habit with your exercise. Be proud of yourself everyday, this is hard work and you are doing great!

Jean -- When I want to really warm the house, I turn it up to 69. Otherwise it's pretty much at 66 for us. Of course, I wear a lot of sweaters...I think we just get used to it being colder up here!

Well, I'm off to enjoy some delicious Greek chicken and watch the Daily Show. I've started taping it, and my dh and I like to watch it together.

Keep warm, and have a good time playing in the snow (or being grateful it's not below freezing where you live!)!

Maria

Evening from Snowy Snowy Chicago

It has gotten warmer out up to 29 degrees WOO HOO :flower: but we are looking at 6 inches or more.......DD17 had choir practice tonight and didn't feel comfortable driving home so DH and I went to get her and the car - SMART CHOICE on her part :teeth:

Been reading the discussion on heating the house.......we keep ours set at 70 when we are home - 66 during the day when we are at work and 66 at night. Do I want it warmer OF COURSE but I don't want the higher heating bill so the attitude is that is why we layer and wrap ourselves in blankets :goodvibes :goodvibes In the summer we have the house at 78 - 80 which is not as bad as it sounds.

Kilmanjaro - How are you feeling? Must be so good to know you are on your way to a healthier you!! :Pinkbounc

Maria - was hoping for a work stoppage also but 6 inches of snow is nothing in Chicago!! Glad your training is working.......send some of the motivation this way :cheer2:

Debra - My DH would love to live in your house. He doesn't like cold at all and would go without the a/c if we let him. How are the contacts doing? Are you ready for Christmas? When are the kids off for winter break?

Jen- Woo Hoo - how many more days until WDW? You will be happy to be rid of TOM in time for WDW.

Lvs eeyore - How are you doing? I also have arthritis and wear orthodicts in my shoes. Most days are good - rainy days - my knees talk to me.

Kathy - how is the car and your body feeling? More snow headed your way.

Jonestavern.........let's crank up the heat together by moving and losing :banana: :banana:

Hi to anyone I missed - Keep Moving and Losing!!

Happy Friday!!
Have a Magical Disney Day!!
Linda

Linda

We are SO cold! One of my DD's schools is closed and the other is on (they don't have bus service) so I am home with one kid today.

I know we heat our house too much, and I did by long underwear and I layer my clothes too. I am just SO cold for some reason, and this year is worse than before. I remember Oprah saying how after losing a lot of weight the next winter she felt so cold. I don't know if that extra 65-70 pounds I had last year kept me warmer or not, but I am constanting shivering and I have goose bumps all the time. I sit with blankets on me and that is with the heat turned 76 degrees during the day.

Contact Update : Well I had to take them out last night. The air is SO dry and I just couldn't take them with my eyes so dry. I was up in the middle of the night last night getting water twice because I am so dry (probably from running the heat so much--but at night we turn it down and I use an electric blanket, but still, the air is dry and I so thirsty every time I woke up).

So today I am committed to hydrating myself. I am going to drink as much water as I can. My skin feels dry, my eyes are still feeling dry (so I am leaving out the contacts today) and my lips are dry, so I really need to hydrate!

We are at 11 degrees (or -4 degrees with wind chill). :cold: :cold: :cold:

Hope everyone else is staying warm!

Tiff : Congrats on the new clippie!!!! I know that is a great feeling! Good for you! Onward and downward!

Debra

Morning All!!

We are actually warmer today than we have been since November. Too much snow fell and the city is waaaaaaaaaaaay behind in plowing. Last night a normal 20 minute ride home was taking people 90 - 120 minutes :faint:

Tiff - Woo Hoo on the new clippie - lookin GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD :banana:

Debra - Seriously have you had your thyroid checked? I have had similar issues over the last several years like breaking out in goose bumps and shivering when it is 70 degrees out side. They checked me three times and it kept coming up normal. Both doctors have decided that I am having an abnormal reaction to the pre menopausal stage. Most get hot flashes I get cold flashes. I am ALWAYS layered and ALWAYS carry a sweathshirt or sweater with me even in the heat of the summer. I never know when I am going to get a COLD flash :cold: :cold: :cold:

Going out for Mexican tonight - any suggestions???? Hard restaurant to eat healthy at.

Have a Magical Disney Day
Linda

Thanks guys

Linda-what about a grilled chicken taco salad. Just take off some of the cheese, use salsa for your salad dressing & whatever you do, dont eat the shell. That is the worst part!

Good Monrnig.

The car substained at least 5,000 in damage. They said they won't know the final figure until it is tore apart. most of the rear end needs replacing and one of the rear side panels. One of the back doors sticks where the panel was driven forward. It is amazing how much damage is done in slow motion. I can't even phantom the damage to the vehicle or my body if we had been going faster. She was going fast enough to depoly her airbag or else she just hit in the right spot.

As far as my body, my neck is still very sore. I have an appt with a neurosurgeon this afternoon. The appointment is not the result of the accident but based on the MRI I had done 3 weeks ago. It didn't get schedule until Wed the day after the accident. Ever get into a specialist that fast.

Need to get to work as I have to take the afternoon off.

Oh, Kathy! I hope you feel better soon. My MIL was rear-ended, and it took a while for her neck to feel better. It is a lot of impact (and the car that hit her wasn't going that fast). I'm glad you are seeing a doctor so quickly. At least that worked out!

Take care, and let us know how you are doing!
Debra

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :banana: :banana: :banana: love those NEW CLIPPIES Tiff!!!! AWESOME!!! I still have 8 pounds to go to reclaim my 65 pound clippie! :earseek: But I'm on my way and hopefully will be there at the first of the New Year...then it's on to NEW pounds for me! :) Keep up the great work and good discipline in your eating..you're on a roll! :)

Kathy....ouch! So hoping your neck feels better soon....I hope your car gets better soon, too! A little bump nowadays can run up $$$ so quickly...but I am thankful it wasn't worse for you with all the bad weather you've had lately! Get better soon! We've gotta have you good for the marathon! :)

Debra..I've always been a cold hands/cold feet person...I do find that if I move around (aerobics/strength training...heck, just push ups) really gets my blood moving and as long as I stay moving I stay warm....the minute I sit for more than 5 minutes..I"m cold again...my normal body temperature is 96.8 not 98.6 and my blood pressure is lower than most 90/60...so I guess some bodies are just cold no matter what weight. But try and get moving or doing some exercises and then don't stop moving! :)

Jen! How are you feeling??? Don't let yourself get run down....every now and then you need a day or two to recoup and rest yourself...don't go nuts around the holidays and catch something...seems holidays are famous for viruses and such. Sometimes TOM just makes me feel that way, so I'm hoping it's just TOM and not a bug. You're doing great, besides being sickie...keep it up!!!

Maria....YAHOO!!! THAT exercise momentum!!! Once it grabs hold of you you can't stop!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: And just reading a fitness magazine makes me feel more fit! :) You've inspired me and I'm off to do my pushups! :)

Linda...Mexican..GO FOR THE SALAD!!! :) GO FOR THE SALAD!!!! :) That's my cheer :cheer2: Tell ya what, if you do a salad I'll do a salad tonight when we eat out and I'll say NO NO NO to popcorn at the movie this afternoon! :)

Kilimanjaro!!! YOU ARE ON A ROLL!!!! How are you feeling? Has your stomach adjusted to the portion changes? It takes about 2 weeks for my stomach to shrink and adjust where I'm not so hungry as much...stay strong and can't wait for your first report on pounds GONE! :) Get ready for some clippies! :)

I slimfasted and am about to put my back brace on to do my aerobics....we can kick this eating month and make it a losing month! :)

Tara

I am adjusting pretty well. I lost 3.5 pounds this week!!! Eats today were:
1 bowl cherrios w/ 1/2 cup skim milk
1 banana
1 slice whole wheat toast
1 glass cranberry juice

Lunch-\1 slice veggie pizza
6 carrot sticks
8 oz. water
D- 1 baked catfish fillet,1/2 cup green beans,1/2 cup corn,1 wheat roll,1 glass iced tea
snack-1 banana w/ 2 tbs. organic peanut butter,1 glass skim milk,1 bottle water

Exersise-same as previous days!

Tiffj - congrats on the 3# loss and the new clippie. :cheer2: :cheer2: You will have a lighter you to carry across the finish line in January. Looking forward to meeting you. Keep up the losing ways.

Maria - you are doing great with your exercise. It does get easier when it becomes a habit.

Linda - I'm with you about wearing sweaters in the middle of the summer when it is in the 80' - 90's. I have always said the body is not made to withstand sudden temp changes, ie going from 70 air conditioning to 90 outdoors.

Tara - my normal temp is about the same as yours but my bp is higher. I have been able to control it well with medication, but the past couple of drs appts, it has been in the 138/86 range instead of the 120/78 range where it normally is. I inherited the high BP from my mom and high cholesteral from my dad.

Kilamanjaro - great job on the loss :banana: :banana: Keep up the good work.

Debra - I tried contacts about 20 years ago when all they had were teh hard lenses. I didn't even last a week. My eyes are funny shaped and the contacts kept slipping off the pupil. I haven't had the courage to try again. I also wear progressive lenses as an alternative to the trifocals I used to wear and don't see where contacts would be feasable. Besides I have worn glasses for 43 years and don't fell dressed without them. My daughters kid me about having to put my glasses in the same spot each night so I can find them the next day. :rolleyes:

Update on ailments - saw the neurosurgeon (ns) this afternoon. Everyone has the same comment after looking at the films "Your neck is a mess." :confused3 Is that the most scientific diagnosis they can come up with? I have 5 bulging disks and 1 herniated disk in my neck. The ns is sending me to a Pain Clininc to help the symtoms caused by the bulging and severe degeneration. He also said that surgery will be necessary when the bulging gets to the point it is dibilitating. Eventually, the nerves will become compromised and the pain will be such that nothing will help it. I am glad he wants to wait until nothing else will help.

On the upcoming WDW trip - he said to ask myself if something I want to do will cause additional pain. If the answer is yes, don't do it. I asked about keeping going until I couldn't stand the additional pain and he recommended against it. :rolleyes1 Roller coasters are on the list of not so smart choices. I have decided to go on Everest at least once when it opens just because it will be new.

As far as the marathon, I didn't ask the ns but did discuss it with my regular doc when I had my follow up from the accident this afternoon. He looked at my like I was crazy. I told him I was training to walk it and put a few minutes of jogging in it also. He said the walking would be much better than the jogging, and try to keep the neck as loose as possible to keep it from stiffening up too much.

I am going to try and complete my LW tomorrow. It will most likely be on the TM as the weather here is calling for more snow. They have recorded 57" of the lovely white stuff at the airport so far this season. We normally don't get to that point until early Feb. Oswego county, where I live gets alot more snow most of the time than the airport.

Kilimanjaro!!! :banana: :banana: :banana: and a 1/2 pounds!!! That's WONDERFUL!!! Do you realize you just lost 6 and a half sticks of butter from your body? That is AWESOME!!! You're melting that weight right off! Do you have any mini-goals where you give yourself a reward or are you planning any trips in the future? I had mini-20 pound goals (on one now) and give myself a reward when I hit it. Usually a plant for my garden or an inspiration pair of pants for the next size down. Just don't forget to PRAISE your efforts with some well-deserved rewards! :)

Kathy...oh my!!! Your neck does not sound like it's feeling very well...my uncle had a similar situation and if it helps...he escaped surgery and is high functioning now...I think he might take some anti-inflamatories every now and then but his pain is under control. Keep records of all this because your medical expenses could run long from this accident and you'll need to consider that in your claims. I bet you could walk the whole thing and not have to jog...you're just a trooper and have worked so hard for this, I know y'all can do it... Tiff is a fast walker she can keep ya on pace! :)

Well, Tom started for me yesterday....eating has been under control except for the day before TOM...too many snickerdoodles won't do me in though. I'm feeling 100% better than last Saturday and plan on walking with Tiff tomorrow and doing some gardening today...my bulbs are screaming to be planted.

Everyone have an easy weekend and choose some energy fruits and veggies to accompany those breads and meats! :)

Tara

I've been REALLY busy!!!

Friday: snowday and dentist appointment. No cavities for this girl!! Basketball game-JV lost, varsity won. Lots of good stuff.

Today: lots of running around. The school play is tonight and I'm taking pics for yearbook. Trying to get around for WDW! New warmups were in. Size LARGE pants, I think. Not extra large! YAY! So psyched that I forgot to WI. Will do tomorrow. I have to finish a baked goods sale by tomorrow...ay yi yi!

I feel much better today! I love snowdays!

I want Yoga Booty Ballet for my birthday. It's too late for Christmas because we've had all our shopping done by now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tiff-AWESOME job for the new clippie!!
To all others-feel better!!!
B today: tomato soup (one mug!!), 1/2 apple, 1 pear (4)
L today: Tango Chicken Sandwich, Berry Lemon Cheesecake (12)
Going to at least attempt to pack!
Love to you all!! Jen
I walked on the treadmill today for 75 min. Not fast enough to beat the sweepers but got the sxteps in.
Tara - my neck problems surfaced in May when I was spending so much time on the road. I thought it was just a stiff neck from sleeping in an unfamiliar bed with lousy pillows. Actually, I was told about 8 years to make sure my headrest was always adjusted properly to protect my neck as the arthritis had already startedd by that time. My chiropractor said the herniated disk has probably been there for a long time as people don't usually get them after age 40 and I'm way beyond that.
Jen - are you excited about leaving for WDW in only 2 more days. I have to wait 7 before joining you. We will be there for 2 days while you are there.
Everyone have a great evening.
Kathy- Have a great time at the World. I know you'll be glad to get away from the snow. I cant go near as fast on the TM as I do outside. I have to jog on the TM to keep up my regular walking pace outside.
Kilamanjaro-WTG! That is awesome!
Did 3 miles this a.m. at 14:26 pace including warm up. Tomorrow have 6 miles & the circus. I can't wait to see the circus, it should be great!
I am SO excited to be going!!!!!!!!!
Kathy-maybe I can meet you? I will have on a little red backpack with 101 Dalmations on it, and lime green ribbons. The backpack has a Stitch keychain.
D: Hyped Up chicken noodle soup, and a PB&J.
Pretty good day. Got some water in. About 15 minutes of exercise! (I went to the school play last night, walked there, walked back, and lifted lots of gear!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today on the agenda:

1) Write out instructions for cat sitter
2) Sell baked goods
3) Get the oranges to the person who bought them
4) Clean room
5) Laundry.
6) PACK PACK PACK!!!! Not much time left
7) Kidsit.

Should be a pretty busy day!

Jen!!!! HAVE A GREAT TIME IN THE WORLD!!! Can't wait to see how you describe your trip when you return! It'll make us all feel like we were there with you! :) And remember, you'll be walking your tail off so enjoy some yummy treats while you're there. Have a chocolate chip cookie from Main Street Bakery for me! :) Have a safe trip and bask in the sun! :) Way to go on no cavities! :)

Kathy! Enjoy your trip to Disney! I know you're an old pro at it now...I don't have any tips for you other than WOO HOO forget the computer! :) Hoping your neck is feeling much better for the trip. I slept especially well this last trip...good pillows! :)

TiffJ....GREAT walking time! Woke up this morning with both girls sick so had to stay home with them...but am hoping to get a walk in this afternoon before hubby has to fly to Arizona (lucky stiff...nice warm sun for him!)...had a GREAT meal at Carrabba's!!! Tried to eat a little bit of everything and not ALL of something...I did pretty good.

I'm out of my slimfast so I had 1/2 a sugar cookie and orange juice for breakfast...oh great. But for lunch and looking forward to something more substantial and then slimfasting for dinner.

Take care everyone! My back is feeling GREAT and ready to pick up where I left off just not so many lunges! :)

Tara

Jen, please tell us all about your trip when you get back. Disney is SO beautiful at Christmas time. You are going to love it!

Tara, I'm so glad your back is better. I have had some really bad back problems and it is so annoying not to be able to do the things you want to do. Glad things are back to normal.

Today is a band concert day. I had DH take me to the store because I hate driving in the snowy roads. I just can't believe it is so cold and we have so much snow this early in the season! UGH! It is going to be a long cold winter!

Had the contact in again yesterday but took them out before bed time. The air is just too dry to leave them in. Tara, I wish I had the nerve to get the corrective eye procedure. Maybe one day. But the thought of someone 'working' on my eye while I sit there just freaks me out! :earseek:
So that will be left until I give up all other options. :goodvibes

Just 2 weeks from today is Christmas! Can you believe it! I need to get one more present (to even out my girls), then I am done.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday season! It sure is busy at this time of year. This week is crazy for us.

Take care everyone! I am going to go get my daily bowl of carrots to munch here in a couple of mintues.

Debra
