Evening All!!

Sending everyone east of Chicago :cold: :cold: :cold: :cold: another cold week........need to move somewhere warm :sunny: any suggestions maybe somewhere where a certain mouse is BOSS :rotfl2:

TOM will be hitting on Tuesday so tomorrow will not be a fun day. :crazy2: Won't know where I am assigned for the day until the phone rings tomorrow waaaaaaay tooooooo early.

Food wise I am ready to hit the floor running. Went to the grocery store today and stocked up on fruits and veggies. A 6th grade teacher has lost oodles of weight in the past 6 months.....she had tried WW, Jenny Craig, Atkins....all of it and nothing worked because when she was done "dieting" she didn't know what to do.

So she decided to retrain her body - eats lots of fruits, veggies, chicken and fish watches her intake of carbs but doesn't deny herself. Plus she found time for herself to exercise - Sounds Like a PLAN :banana:

The only issue I still have to work out is the exercise.......still trying to find someone to buy the billiard table in our basement.

Jen - Still waiting to see HP4 - hoping to when DD21 comes home from college. It is so exciting to find a weight loss friend.........when are you leaving again for WDW? How is your friend that had to go to the ER?

jennifer - Cookbooks are expensive!! But have to admit I am addicted to them :teeth: There are lots of websites with healthy food choices. If you find any please share. What are you looking for? Maybe we can all share some recipes?

disneediva - Which cookbook did you buy? I just got Better Homes and Gardens Big Book of Soups and Stews........just looked so yummy I couldn't resist plus alot of the recipes are healthy. :Pinkbounc

Kathy - You are one brave runner.......... :cold: At least it will be warmer in Florida!!! :sunny: :sunny: How did you do with the pizza?

Danauk - Sounds like you had a GREAT time at the spa and importantly GREAT JOB on healthy eating :banana: :banana: Keep Going!!

Kilamanjaro - GREAT!!! This is a HUGE first step for you.........getting the right information and then using it is a GREAT way to a better and healthier you :cheer2: Let us know how it went.

schatz - Great going on the exercising......sounds like a Pilates move. Keep moving and losing..........ps HATE snow suits :rotfl2: :cold:

Digimom - Thanks for offering to put a clippie together......and I sent you a PM about Ohare

Tara - How did the weekend go?

Maria - HOW DID YOUR WEEKEND GO!!!!! Details girlfriend.

Daughter is home from work time to go to sleep.....sigh

Have a Magical Disney Day
Linda

Welcome to all our new members! It takes me awhile to learn new names, but it is so nice to meet all of you!

Linda, PLEASE keep that cold weather up in Chicago! It keeps drifting down here to Indiana! UGH! I hate it! I need some sunshine! :sunny:

Well this weekend, we went to Disney On Ice, the Incredibles Go To Magic Kingdom. It was nice, but it will probably be our last one. My twins are 12 this year and they liked it, but it wasn't the same WOW that they had felt in other years. I will have to see what next year's show is, but I doubt we will go again.

THEN yesterday one of our neighbors' had a fire and lost their house! It was awful standing there watching it go up in flames! I felt so bad for them. Luckily their kids were not home, and they did get their two cars out of the garage.

Right now we have ice on our road in front of our house because of the water from the hoses of the fire trucks yesterday. I still can't believe it happened. We all just stood there feeling so helpless.

Eating wise, I did not follow program, and we went out to eat after Disney On Ice and I enjoyed every bite! :goodvibes But now it is back to reality time, and I am back on track today.

I hope to get back on track with your posts too. This has been a crazy weekend, but things are calmer now.

Take care everyone!
Debra

Welcome new gang members! Just a quick note to say that I'm still here..just threw my back out on Saturday..all those lunges last week got the better of me....I'm trying to limit my sitting time and walk more...but I had to post my 4.8 pound loss this week!!! Granted I was bloated 3 pounds after thanksgiving so I'm sure it's more like a 2 pound loss but it was great to see! :)

Tara,
So sorry about your back! That happened to me a couple of years ago and it took about 7 weeks for mine to heal (but I am sure yours will go much faster--I didn't even do that much, just bent over to do something to the mower and must of just pulled a muscle or something, it was very strange).

Congrats on the weight lose! That is so SUPER :banana: ! Keep up the good work! We are going to make it through this holiday season healthier and happier than ever before!

Take care!
Debra

Good Monday morning, everyone!

It's fun to read all the posts, to see how everyone is doing. Going to take some time to learn all the names though, kind of like the first day in a new school. :)

I need to go grocery shopping, not much here. I ended up having a Healthy Choice cheese pizza for breakfast. :earseek: Probably soup for lunch, then I work tonight so will have a big salad. I'm a waitress in a nice, old fashioned family-oriented diner but the food choices leave much to be desired as it's all homemade and not very healthy like: broasted chicken, mashed potatoes (real) with thick chicken and beef gravy, bread pudding, dressing, BBQ ribs, burgers, fries, etc. But they do have a nice salad bar and I can make myself a big salad and top it with white chicken meat and lo fat dressing.

Did my 30-minutes on the treadmill this morning, it feels so GOOD when I'm done!! :banana:

chrismiss: about the treadmill, just DO it. You will feel GOOD when you are done each day. Just make it a habit. I know I feel so much better about myself when I walk on it. I do prefer walking outside but not in below freezing weather and so much of the time it's really windy too. Will wait for spring to get back outside for my walks.

TigerCheer: try not to let those people bother you that were making snide remarks about you being a cheerleader. Those type of people are just insecure with THEMSELVES. Having to take in your skirt is GREAT and I know you felt really happy about that. And I don't think a girl needs to be stick thin to be a good cheerleader. My granddaughter (7th grade) is a little bit overweight but is a wonderful cheerleader. She has such a positive attitude, great "yelling" voice, nice smile all the time and is very energetic. You just keep up the good work!!! :cheer2:

NYcpa: 8 miles in one day? Wow! Do you do that once every week? When I walk outside I generally go 2-3 miles, occasionally 4-5 but not regularly. You mentioned walking on a trail, do they keep the snow/ice off it? That would be great to have a trail like that available. We have a short trail in our park but they don't keep it usable during the winter. :( And I live in the country so it's only the road to walk on. :(

Really looking forward to tomorrow as I have THREE days off work in a row, plan to get some much-needed housework done, and start gift wrapping.
Hope everyone has a great day today!!! :sunny:

Chattyaholic - the trail is really a road that runs along the west side of Onondaga Lake. THe only vehicles allowed on it are the maintenance ones. This time of year they keep it plowed as the have an event called 'Lights on the Lake' where the have 2 miles of xmas lights in various shapes and themes. Erin and I walked the route the day before it opened. It was interesting to see it in the dark with no hedlights interferring. This is the only event they let cars on the road. In the summer they have 2 trails open: one for runners, walkers and with training wheels. The main trail is used by skateboarders, bikes and roller blades. The main trail alos has a certified 5k course whichy is used for 'fun' runs and race events. My biggest complaint is the people who bring their dogs and don't bother to clean up after them even though the park furnishes the bags and garbage cans just for that purpose. I am following a training schedule leading up to the WDW half marathon on Jan 7. My longest walk, prior to the half will be 10 miles which I will do at WDW on Dec 18 while we are there for our second annual 3 generation trip. We will continue taking my mom (77) with us for as long as she will go.

Tara - sorry to hear about your back. Get well soon so you can continue your daily walks.

Linda - the pizza tasted good. I made 2 individual 8" pizzas because DD2 doesn't eat sauce or any of the good stuff on hers like onions and green peppers. Alot of times I just make a veggie pizza but last night actually had pepperoni on it. I am eating the leftover half my pizza for lunch. Actually, I'm not much of a runner, I do most of my training by walking as it is easier on these old knees that sound like they need oiling when flexed.

Debra - great job staying focused. The weekend could not have damaged you so you will obtain your goal by New Yeas.

Maria - how is the TM walking going. I quite often get home from work and have to convince myself to go down on mine. I always fell much better after finishing. An added effect is I sleep better also.

Since I's supposed to be working, I need to get busy.

Stay healthy and keep losing.

Hi Everyone,

AAARRRGGGHHHH Mondays. Today my DH took my car to work, seems his won't go above 50 and that is a dangerous thing on the PA turnpike. Well I can drive the car around town but it needs a good 30 - 40 minutes of time to warm up. Its an 89 Yes you saw that right 89 Honda and you can tell its old. Anyway, my 1 yo dd decided that 4:30am would be a good time to wake up so 11 yo dd brought her down to me. Now, since 11 yo shares a room with her she should have just stayed up with her so her mother could sleep more and than get up to work out. But nooooo DD brought DD down to her mother, well she fidgeted, DH alarm went off, I would have gotten up, but didn't want DD waking the rest of the kids up so I stayed in bed. Well DH KNEW he was taking my car to work, but do ya think he would start the Honda and get it ready to move for me?? NNOOOOO. And than he calls and says why didn't you go to the gym. He must have forgotten that I need to be outta here by 5:30 to get in the full hour so that I can get back home to get the kids on the bus. OOYY VVVAAAYYY!! So needless to say I didn't get to the gym today, but I did those ab excerises. When will those darn abs just stay flattened by themselves??

Ok what is HP4? I must be clueless.

Kilimanjaro - how did you make out today with your appointment? What does bariatric's do for you anyway? Again..clueless.

When is the marathon in May, We will be there from the 14 to the 26th of May.

Happy loosing everyone.

Hi Everyone!

I survived the weekend! I really have a new perspective after this year's party. I think some of my "thin-laws" are so desperate for attention, my weight and appearance are pretty low on their list of things to think about. When we walked in, my dh's older sis was wearing a carrier with her dog in it. Like a baby carrier, but with a mesh "box" on the front for your dog to sit in. I just don't know what to say about that. Then Cousin Gene came in with his family -- carrying a 2-week old baby none of us knew about! my sil looked so disappointed. She wanted to be the focus of attention, and of course it was the new baby!

I bought a new purple sweater and matching socks, and I looked o.k. I was in a pair of jeans one size smaller than I wore last year, so I guess that's some progress.

There was so much tension and subcurrents -- and I finally realized that these people don't particularly like each other. It really has nothing to do with me. You should have heard dh's cousins and younger sis talking about how the older one treated them when they were younger. Just a lot of unresolved feelings. I am determined not to freak out again the next time I have to be with them. I think I am really pretty incidental to this process. I'm so glad after ten years I finally took a step back and looked at the situation a bit more objectively.

Anyway, yesterday wasn't a big success, either. DS has a cold and fever, so I had him laying down all day. He is a very active kid and was willing to just lay there, so I know he's really sick. Didn't get to much I wanted to do, health-wise.

Today is a new one, and I'm off to a better start. I've had my oatmeal & raisins, soup 100 cal Ritz, 2 gingerbread cookies, Babybel.

Tonight we're having a reduced calorie version of shrimp newburg. I'll top that off with two more gingerbread cookies (I made them yesterday), and a Lindt ball.

After all the encouragement I have read on this board, I decided to just do it! The treadmill, that is. Honestly, I need someone to say to me every day --did you get on? are you getting on? How far did you go? I know that sounds silly, but it seems to keep me accountable. So, thank you to anyone and everyone who mentions it in a post! :goodvibes

Kathy -- I am intrigued by the idea of training for and doing the half marathon. I don't know if I could be ready by 2007, but I'm going to look into the book you mentioned and see what I read. I think having an actual goal would help me tremendously, and my dh would agree this would be a winter trip he could get behind! :cold:

Chattyholic -- Great treadmill advice. I am going to just do it! Enjoy your time off from work, what a great break :flower:

Debra -- We have tickets to the Incredibles show over Feb. break! I think ds will still like it, since he'll be 8. I'm going to enjoy these things now, I'm sure the day will come when he wouldn't be caught dead at an ice show :rotfl:

Tara -- I'm so sorry about your back! I hope you are able to heal quickly. Thank you so much for the exercise encouragement. It really helps! :flower3:

Linda -- We will suffer together, as TOM comes for me Wednesday. I'll think of you on the treadmill if you'll think of me ;) The weekend wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I'm definitely looking forward to just concentrating on my immediate family now. Thank you again for all the support! :grouphug:

Jen -- Having a weight loss friend is awesome! I am sure she will be a great support for you. :hyper2:

Jennifer -- Is there a specific plan you are trying to follow? The WW website has all kinds of recipes for free in the recipe swap area, you can just input the dish you are looking for, and it will give you various options. I'm not sure about other plans, but I'm sure there must be tons of great stuff on the internet! :tilt:

Danauk -- Don't be devastated if you don't lose this week. Sometimes it takes a week or so for our bodies to catch on, so your weight loss may show up later than you had anticipated. If you have a small loss this week, a bigger one should be coming next week! :magnify:

Schatz5k -- I just forget about the water! I have it sitting next to me all day, and never take a sip. There, I just had a drink. It is hard to remember to keep it in our minds, but I know you can do it! :drinking1

Disneediva -- Welcome! You will love it here, it is a great bunch of motivating losers! :moped:

Kilimanjarosafaris78 -- Welcome! This is a great place. You will find a ton of support here! :wizard:

Digimom -- Thanks for making us a clippie! I think this fantastic thread should definitely have one :cheer2:

Karen -- We're still thinking of you and praying for you. :grouphug:

A note to new folks -- because I have such a poor memory for names, I hope you'll take pity on me. If you write your name at the end of your post, I promise to learn it! :blush:

Thanks and I'll report back this afternoon after I hit the treadmill!

Maria

Thanks, Chatty!!!

We call Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire "HP4" because it's easier. Why? I don't know.

My weight loss buddy is a great support! Did I tell you I've got all my Florida clothes from her? Yeah-wow.

Thank you Digimom!

Tara-go easy, you!!

My friend is okay. She's got a mild shoulder sprain...we thought it was much worse. She's taking ibuprofin (sp?) and a muscle spasm calm downer (relaxer! that's the word!!)

1 week to Florida!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
B: grilled pork/tomatoes/cheese and a biscuit. 4
L: corn dog and fries! Lunches are always hard... 8
S: water so far.
Exercise: a little bit of a walk
Water: 12 ounces.
Happy Monday Evening!
It's completely dark here, so that's evening enough for me. I just got off the treadmill. I kicked it up several notches -- 2.160 mi/32 minutes @1.0 incline. I stayed on a shorter time but worked harder.
I need to do a lot of research on the half marathon. I asked my dh if I trained to do it if he minded if I did, and he said if I train to do it, he'll do it with me! I am so excited! He does not like to go to Disney, so if I can pull this off I will get multiple rewards. Funny, I seemed to do much better on the treadmill when I was thinking about Florida in January :rotfl:
I'm going to get a training book/learn more asap, so I don't burn myself out by doing too much too fast. I'm hoping a year is long enough to get in shape to do it. I'm pretty much at a 15 minute mile right now, for whatever that's worth.
I tried Kathy's tip of a dvd rather than t.v., and I really was able to keep up a better pace. I think those commercials were dragging me down.
I'll check in again later when more folks are at home...
Maria
I got to the weight loss clinic at 12:15 today. I filled out alot of papers,and was called back at 12:30pm. I was first weighed,and found out I have gained 2 pounds since last Monday! I am now 390.5 pounds,and 5'5". I have a BMI of 68.2 and I have a body composition of 68% fat. My average blood pressure reading today was 278/145(highest reading ever). My cholesterol was 395 Total/375 LDL(bad cholesterol) and 20 HDL). After that, I had a pulmonary function test. The results were that my pulmonary function is average. Then, I had the cardiac stress test. The technican put EKG discs on me,and an automatic blood pressure monitor. He started off the treadmill at a low speed and gradually increased it. The results of this test showed my doctor the limits that need to be made on my exersise,and allowed him to lay out a good plan for me.
Then, I went down the hall to meet with a nutritionist. She layed out a meal plan for me for the next two weeks,and gave me a grocery lsit,and recipes to make the meals.
Then I went to the training room for my first workout. Because of my health, I have to work out wearing a heart monitor,EKG discs,pulse monitor,and automatic BP monitor. Today I did a 5- minute warm-up incorporating various stretches,walking,and jogging. Then I worked 5 minutes on the treadmill at a low-speed and incline. Then, I worked on the stairmaster for 5 minutes. Then, I worked on the torso track for 5 minutes. Then I did a 10-minute Taebo tape with my trainer. Finally, I had a 5 minute cool-down. I will go to the weight loss clinic 5 days a week with weigh-ins on fridays.
I ate the following today:
B-Frisco breakfast sandwich from hardee's
8 oz. orange juice
L-6 inch turkey,lettuce,tomato,red onion,vinegar(1 tsp),oil(1 tsp),pepper on wheat bread from Subway.
1 bag(small) of lay's baked potato chips
12 oz bottle of water
D-1 baked chicken breast
1 baked potato(plain)
1/2 cup broccoli florets
1/2 florida grapefruit(sweetened with splenda)
12 oz. water
Dessert- 6 strawberries(plain)
Morning Losers from FREEZIN Chicago :cold: :cold:
Can't wait to send this weather out of here...........what happened to a slow transition into winter.
TOM came and I have never been so happy - :flower: I literally ate my way through yesterday (a definite clue that my body was getting ready). The school where I subbed had breakfast but not the normal doughnuts and bagels. These teachers brought in crab dip and homemade salsa and chips besides the coffee cakes........grazed my way through the crab dip as if the bowl had my name and my name only on it. :rotfl: grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
So going to try this again today........
Kilamanjaro - So glad you are getting the help you need. Those pounds will melt off and you will feel so much better. Let us know how today went.
Maria - How AWESOME!!! The marathon!!! :cheer2: :banana: You can do this and when I get my TM unearthed next month I will help you by being a training buddy - ok maybe not because you will be further along but hey I can always try to catch up :teeth: Glad to hear the party came and went and you realized that it is not you but them :) Too bad you can't choose your relatives like you can choose your friends.
Schatz - Hope you are having a better day :wizard: :wizard: Sounds like a Calgon take me away moment. :wizard: :wizard:
Ooooohhhhh looking at the clock = need to dash....
Everyone have a good moving day!!!!!
And as always a Magical Disney Day!!
Linda
Good Morning Losers!!!!
Well today started out with me getting up at 5:30 and going to the gym. I did the ab excerises and did the treadmill for 35 minutes. 5 minutes more than what I was doing last week. So I'll stay on this course for the next week and up it again. I walked with the 3lb weights in my hand and did some arm excerises as well.
Kilimanjago, I'm glad to hear your appointment went ok. My mom also had to work out hooked up to the ekg monitor. How did you feel when you got done working out. I'm sure it was tough but you have to be SOOO Proud of yourself for even getting on the machines. You can do this and we will be here with you. I like that you are posting your menu's, it gives me something to work off of. Please continue to post your weights downward spiral. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! :banana: Just think about the next time you are at Fort Wilderness, you will be able to walk around the campgroud and not be out of breath.
Chrissmass56 you have successfully sent the cold weather to me hear in PA. Thanks alot :guilty:
Gotta head out to a meeting a school. I checked back later.
Have a losing day
Tracy
Good morning from snowy monmouth county NJ. I just got into school and it is very quiet because we have a 90 minute delay. I came in to get some work done for a workshop that I am giving tomorrow. Right now I have to figure out the schedule for today.
I got my 35 minutes of walking in place done this morning. I have no time tonight because of ds band concert.
Maria - I am also hoping to do the 2007 half marathon. I think I have talked my husband into buying a treadmill for Christmas. Last year we bought a bike and in May I did the 25 mile MS bike tour. I can't do it again this year because of my neice's confirmation so I am thinking of doing the MS walk (6-miles I think) in April. If I can do that in good time then I will do the marathon in Jan. Good luck.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Hi,
I'm not entirely happy with this, but I thought I'd post my progess. (I usually make several "whatevers" before I come up with something I'm happy with).
Here's my first one. I plan on creating a few more so we have a choice.
Feel free to post your brutally honest feedback. :teeth:
Kathy
By the way, it's 150X66 and about 13 KB.
Please don't copy and paste it (unless you put it on your own computer/site). It's currently on my own site, and I don't think I have enough bandwidth for that. Eventually, we can put it somewhere on DIS, and then we can start using it. Thanks!
Kathy, I sent you a PM. Thanks SO much for doing this for the group!
Well gang--when I started this weight loss journey on Jan. 1st, I promised myself a 'reward'. I promised that when I got to my goal weight I would get myself some contacts. Well I am still 2 pounds away (I won't weigh in for 2 more weeks), but I went ahead and got them and they are in right now.
I got the 30 day kind. Supposedly I will wear them for 30 days straight (sleeping in them, basically they don't come out for 30 days). You can take them out if you want, but they are designed to be worn that long. They are very new, and my doctor said that she has 3 patients trying them and no one has made it through the 30 days yet.
I am on Day 2 now. We will see how long I last. :earseek:
Busy day today. Both kids have activities and DH has a party to go to after work. So I am home waiting for calls to pick up kids and basically I get a LOT of quiet time today!
I have to confess, I have been terrible the past week with ice cream. I know I need to learn to deal with foods in moderation, but I haven't had vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup in months, and lately that I all I want to have! I could eat it all day long! I am hoping that I get past this soon. It is not good. Once this ice cream I have now is gone, I am not buying any more. I obviously can not control myself.
This is a HARD time of year for me. We made candy this weekend, and of course I had to have some. We usually do this to give as gifts to teachers and neighbors and others. I have all of it boxed up and ready to give, so hopefully I stay out of it.
How is everyone else doing? Kudos to those of you getting on your treadmills! Mine is covered with boxes from our Christmas decoration, so I can't use it until after we pack that stuff back up ( ;) ).
Later!
Debra
Well I've just got back from weight watchers and I lost 3lb this week! I am so excited about that as I tried so hard this week. So 43.5lb lost so far and 3.5lb left to get to 150!! I wonder if I can loose 3.5lb in 2 weeks to get to 150lb before I go to WDW!!
Today was a lousy food day and even worse for water. I had good intentions to drink 64 oz of water at work like yesterday. I had an appointment dowtown at 8 this morning and my car ended up being the middle of a sandwich. I have damage to both the front and rear, but mainly the rear.
By the time the police showed (1hr 20 min later) I forgot about eating breakfast. Then I spent 45 min on the phone with the insurance company and took the car to the body shop the have the damage estimated.
Currently my neck is getting stiff, my back hurts and my head aches. The seat belt does wonders to the body when you bounce between cars. Luckily, the traffic was moving slow for rush hour or the damage could have been worse.
Food today has been 1/2 a chicken finger sandwich w/hot sauce, a healthy heart honey almond bar, and 2 bisquits. I don't seem to have much of an appetite. Fluid today was 16 oz of water and 20 oz of diet cf pepsi.
Tomorrow has to be a better day and Thurs is another tax seminar.
Linda- we have our share of cold here. Even with the heat turned down to 60 during the day, it still kicks on frequently. Can't imagine what our gas bills will be like this winter.
Everyone, have a good day.
