Hi Everyone!

Another restless night, but I am taking Debra's advice. It sounds so simple, but I haven't planned all my meals in ages. I think this could be the trick to getting me back on track! I'm not good with calories, but I know the points system. I can have up to 22 points. So, today I am having:

Breakfast: Oatmeal with raisins (4 points)
Lunch:Chicken soup w/rice & Ritz 100 calorie bag (6 points)
Afternoon Snack: cheese (2 points)
Dinner:Cream of Potato Soup w/yogurt for dessert (7 points)
Evening Snack: Lindt Ball (2 points)

I found Yoplait now has yogurt whips in chocolate flavors. I got chocolate cherry and chocolate raspberry to try. They're only 3 points, so that could be a good source of calcium if they are yummy. It feels so good to write that down! So, here's another new resolution -- When I come here each morning, I will write down my eating plan for the day.

Since everyone is sick, we are sadly lacking in the fruits and vegetables department right now. I'm hoping to do a good grocery run this weekend. My problem is the Sudafed I am taking (doctor-recommended) is making me so jittery, I can't rest or concentrate. I'm going to have to see if there's a night-time version available that might knock me out. One good point about a cold, all I want to do is drink plain water. I'm getting lots of fluids! It's going to be interesting to see what the scale says after TOM is over. Between that and the cold, I just may lose enough to be a good jumpstart.

Oh! And I had a moment of strength yesterday! I had bought bags of candy corn, indian corn and mellowcreme pumpkins, and I gave them all away! My ds and dh won't eat them, so they were all going to wind up on my thighs. Not anymore!

Tara -- I can't feel sorry for myself with all you are taking on while you don't feel well! You are truly a trooper! I really hope you have a very speedy recovery. My doctor told me to load up on Sudafed before I fly with a cold, so perhaps that could help your husband. I really hope your friends are doing better. It is so hard to watch others struggle in their marriage. My best friend is going through a really hard time, and I have run out of advice to give her. She just doesn't want to hear it. She also doesn't want to accept that she is in any way to blame for their problems. Now, I wouldn't say it's 50/50, but how can you have a marital problem without both people being somewhat at fault? Marriage is between two people (yes, even in this blue state {giggles}), so both have to bear some responsibility. Just announcing it is his problem is no way to fix your marriage!

Debra -- I had 7 years of flute and 3 of piccolo, which I played during marching band. I started playing in 4th Grade. We had to try out to be in the various bands, so you had to already know how to play before you came in. I was not a very talented musician, but I loved being in marching band. It's such a great feeling of comraderie, and you do have opportunities and friends that you otherwise would not meet. Marching band is a great experience, and I wish your dd the best! Tara had fantastic advice, she obviously is a talented musician!

Jean -- It sounds like you are very busy! I'm so glad you weren't affected by the flooding. We see it on the news and it is hard to believe...I think more so than NO, because NH is certainly not below sea level!

Jen -- I love hearing about all your activities. It brings back great memories! It sounds like you are doing well with your choices. Keep it up! TOM is vicious, but we are just going to look him in the eye and keep going!

Kathy -- I am really enjoying your trip report. I can tell you had a wonderful time, without work!

Linda -- O.k., you are going to make me go get on the treadmill. If you can do it, so can I. I just need to start small again. I have these grandiose ideas of what I have to accomplish, and think if I don't do it I'm wasting my time. I forget that I have to work up lengthy or hard workouts, and any time on the treadmill is better than sitting! I'm still working on not eating after 8, and mostly succeeding!

Steph -- We don't have any Sonics around here, but I get their commercials on cable. Everything looks delicious...

Renee-- So great to have you back! And you are really getting to the 150s! I seem to start over every two days, so I wouldn't worry about it...I'm doing little things and I know that if I keep doing that, eventually it will all come together.

To everyone else -- Let's have a losing day! I have my plan, what is yours?!

:grouphug:

Tara: Thanks for all the information! I need to take to my DD about instruments. We have some time since at the middle school she is in now she is doing violin. DD does have braces and she has asthma, so we really need to aloow her to try some out first. Her sister is in the percussion section playing xylophone, so she doesn't even want to consider that! It's a sister thing. We have a xylophone here now that she could use (the one we bought for her sister, and at the school they have them for the kids to use already). So we will see.

Maria: I think you will find that having a plan can be a big help as long as you commit to sticking to it. If you don't plan it out you can run out of points (calories) by the end of the day and then just give up. I'm glad you are planning a treat for the end of the day. I know about counting points at WW (I'm a lifetime member), it is really the same of counting calories. Basicially each point is roughly 50-60 calories (they don't tell you that in the meetings though). So you are basically doing the same thing as counting calories. I hope it works for you. Let us know at the end of the day how it went.

Jean: I am a SAHM too, but I also seem to have a busy schedule. I have been very good about exercising lately, but I am giving myself a break today because this is a busy and I am trying to reduce the stress level here because when I stress out I eat. BTW I was over 200 pounds too on Jan. 1, 2005 when I started this journey and joined WISH. I started with the 5 pound per month challenges and just love those! I have lost 60 pounds since then and am HOPING to make it 65 by the end of the month. You can do it! Checking in here really helps and this group is great for support.

Well the dryer just buzzed and I need to go take care of that and then go wash my hair and then DH comes home for lunch. We have a choir concert to go to tonight for one of my DDs, so it is a busy busy day! Hopefully tomorrow is more relaxed.

Debra

OMG! Debra, Thank you so much! I had no idea how points corresponded to calories. Now that really helps me count foods where I can't use the scale.

This is huge! How did you know that my problem is I wait 'til the end of the day to see how many points I have left for dinner, get frustrated and just eat what I want?!

I feel like I almost need to start over, and relearn everything in baby steps. Today's lesson: plan your meals!

Thanks for the advice. I know I keep asking, I'm just looking for that magic bullet. I have a bad feeling that this is like Flylady -- there is a point where all the lists in the world won't help you, you have to actually take the action!

Enjoy your lunch with your dh, and the concert later. It sounds like a lovely evening!

:rotfl: Been there, done that.

Have those carrots around for 'filler' when you feel hungry (getting a cereal bowl of carrots gets me past those hunger pains which is the BIGGEST trigger for over eating). And if you get a chance to pick up a box of PhillySwirl sugar free Swirl Stix, give them a try. Those are life savers for me! That taste SO good (and I don't like popsicles--these are softer and taste better) and with only 10 calories, you can ALWAYS have a treat when you just want a sweet without having to worry about calories!!!! Now they won't 'fill' that hunger pain (so use the carrots first to fill that emptiness), but they are so tastey and even my kids are taking them (so I have to hide them):

http://www.phillyswirl.com/products/sfstix.cfm

Notice that at the bottom of the nutrition info they list the WW points for their products. This one is 0 (that's right-zero) points!

My 'tricks' (if there is such a thing, really there is no magic) is:

-Eating a bowl of carrots every afternoon regardless if I feel hungry to keep me from getting those hunger pains (those hunger pains can get you every time).

-Treating myself through out the day to 3-4 Shilly Swirl bars (like after each meal, it is my dessert).

-Using those 100 calorie bags of treats (my favorite are the Ritz Mix, I have this with a can of diet coke at night--and the new Planters Peanut Butter Cookies that I have in the morning with my tea).

-Always have salad ready with low cal dressing the fridge. I make a big bowl of salad for dinner most night and use that to fill up, so I take smaller portions of the 'good' stuff (and then I enjoy the 'good stuff' once my hunger pains are not bothering me because I filled up on salad).

Bottom line: Keep those hunger pains away, give yourself small treats during the day, have a plan for your day which includes a small reward at night (mine is either a low cal ice cream bar or a bag of 100 calorie chocolate chip cookies at about 9:00 in the evening).

-OH! My one last trick. After my 9:00 treat, I go and get ready for bed and brush my teeth. We don't go to bed until around 11:00, but by having my final treat, then going to put on my PJs and brushing my teeth (this is the key), I am less likely to cheat. Then I only drink water after if I really get thirsty.

That is it. That is what has been working for me so far.

--OK! My one other thing.......on the Friday night after my end of month weigh in (when I see if I made my 5 pounds for the month) I get a bag of Fat Free Sour Cream and Cheddar Lays potato chips (only about 700 calores in the whole big bag, so I have it on Friday and Saturday and I just LOVE these!).

I am sure you will find the things that work for you. These are the ones that have been working for me recently......BUT earlier in the year I was being motivated by Jeno's pizza with hot peppers and Skinny Cow mint Ice Cream bars. Whatever works for you, just find some food you can enjoy but still lose weight.

Debra

Hey all!!! I am in an ucky mood today-mood swings off the chain. Plus the internet is acting funny.

Eating today was okay: huge breakfast (12 points!!! for what I thought was originally 6!!!), baked potato, chili and hot dog for dinner, 1/2 soft pretzel, cheese and crackers. Some water, some exercise.

I swear, common sense isn't so common anymore!! It seems like there is a lack of it everywhere!

60 days until Disney. I am so excited!!! My dad and brother are going to camp this week!!! We started a new show...and there is lots of stress from school and band (the senior show will be so worth it, band lock-in, and Dinner Theatre)...and cheerleading (drama drama drama drama drama!!!!)

Debra-I play clarinet in band...it's very easy to learn how to play. It just takes some time and dedication. For weeks, all I did was "trill" (play two notes over and over and over again) until I got brave and added more. It takes LOTS of air, though. And I am so not kidding when I say lots of air. Glockenspiel and picc (piccolo) or flute are good choices too. I wish her luck!!! Some tips are: Always keep a good pencil in your case, no matter what instrument you use. Keep a tube of ChapStick or lip balm in your case if you play a mouth instrument (soothes lips and doubles as cork grease in a pinch). And never be afraid to ask for help!!

Today's eating, again, really wasn't my best, but wasn't my worst either. I have GOT to make better choices and go grocery shopping!

This weekend, I have to babysit a little bit, and then I plan on LOTS of sleep!! :cloud9: And lots of friends with me!! I will treat myself right this weekend.

And do you know what else? I hate TOM!!!

Slept in Sunday after 2 days of getting up at the crack of dawn. Went to Conch's Flat and purchased cookies for breakfast. Spent the morning sitting around reading & studying for Lynne.

Dinner - Olivia's at OKW. My nephew (who is only 5 months older than Lynne) and his wife came over for dinner with their 2 kids. Erin and I hadn't seen them in a year and Lynne hadn't seen them in almost 2 years since my dead's funeral. Their youngest is only 13 months old so Lynne had never seen him.

Zack (the 4 year old) attached himself to Lynne like she had glue on her. It was refreshing to have them be so friendly when I had only seen Zack twice before and Aidan was only 8 days old when we saw him. Aidan spent most of his time with Erin.

The adults sat around visiting while Zack played in the sand at the OKW play area. Since Aidan missed his nap, they left around five and asked if they could come back over the next evening.

We went back to EPCOT for supper. We tried eating our way around the world, in the opposite direction than Saturday but still were unable to eat much. We stopped and listened to the Off Kilter show at Canada during our eating journey. For dessert, we purchased a almond topped Kringla from the eating place in Norway. We took it back to our room. Everyone on the bus was willing to take it off our hands if we were too full to eat it.

Went back to the room, read for a while and called it a day.

Coming up next - the final day.

Good evening!

I did it! I stuck to my eating plan for today. It really wasn't that hard when I didn't have to consider what I was going to eat when it was time to eat. Tomorrow I have to go to an all-day conference, where lunch is provided. I have a strategy, though. I'm sure lunch will consist of: rolls (skip), salad (eat), chicken and vegetables (eat) and a big slice of chocolate or carrot cake (3 bite maximum). I'm not sure how many points that will be, but with no morning or afternoon snack, I think it will be o.k. Just in case I really can't eat most of lunch, I'm sticking a Kashi bar in my bag. That's only 2 points, and will help with feeling full. I'm going with my usual oatmeal & raisins for breakfast, and planning on soup again for dinner, with a Lindt ball or 100 calorie treat for dessert.

Debra -- I looked up the Philly swirl locations for my state, any my local grocery store carries the sugar free version! It is the first item on my grocery list for this weekend, along with carrots! I love the Sour Cream and Cheddar chips! I had to stop buying them because I always eat the entire bag at one sitting. They are a real trigger food for me.

Jen -- I have fallen into those meal traps before, too. I think I'm getting about half the points I am...but you had a great recovery! You have a wonderful schedule, and I know you're having a great time getting ready for your Disney trip.

Kathy -- What a lovely trip day. You really had a wonderful time with your family.

That's all I have to report for now. I'm feeling a little better than yesterday, but the cold still has a hold on me, not to mention TOM.

C'ya real soon!

Hi All! :wave2:

I just wanted to pop in and see if anybody remembers me lol I have been incredibly busy at work and currently having phone line issues and can't get online unless I am borrowing someone's computer. I lost another three pounds and am at 28 lost total! :Pinkbounc  :cool1:

I hope everyone is doing well! :)

Can you believe it's still raining??? We had 9.2 inches last Sat/Sun night. when I am stressed I eat, so I am hopping into bed right after this.
There are something around 15 lakes here in our town alone. There are earthen dams that they are keeping watch on. Personally, we are up & away from the lakes & streams. Today there was Nat'l Guard with bulldozers working on our old country road--rt 31N--patching up where the asphalt has washed away.
It was pretty hairy, I don't know if I'll be able to get to the Homestead (house where the event is being held) if this rain keeps up. We are having candlelight tours, with costumed actors in each room, some knitting, ladies taking tea, gents playing cards, writing letters with quill pens & using sealing wax, carrying out kitchen tasks, all 1820's style. The house will sport fall decorations, gourds, apples, pears, Indian corn, dried & fresh flowers. We will have our homeschoolers playing period appropriate music in the ballroom. This is this Fri/Sat & next weekend also. I have helped coordinate this--washed & ironed costumes, lined up the volunteers, taken flyers all over 4 towns, cleaned the bathrms, baked some tea goodies--okay! I bought some of them! --already 15% of our usual crowd can't travel the roads. At the rate I hear the rain coming down, am getting very nervous!
Yup, bottle of H2O & get into bed before I listen to that baked potato's siren song!
Hoping everyone will be feeling better soon--there really seems to be some nasty colds & wicked allergies up right now--so take yr medicine, get some rest (!)--

Itching to eat--

Jean

Of COURSE we remember you Nikkibell!!! WOOHOO on the 3 pounds!!! That is AWESOME!!!   You're inspiring me to get me some off! :)

Kathy...it's just lovely reading a report with no computer in it! :) Did you feel awkward without it? I know folks who are so enmeshed in their palmpilots that they almost freak when they lose it, it's like cutting off a limb for them! So I know it was tough for you but I hope you enjoyed yourself and didn't worry about work....it sure sounds like it! :)

Maria...I think colds are harder to heal when on TOM...body doing too many things to keep up...drink lots of water...I found a great tea that REALLY helped me and I'm not usually taken in by gimmicks..but this really worked! I'm up and ready for my walk and feel okay...not GREAT...but no scratchy throat and I could breathe last night! Here's the recipe..http://www.healthykids.com/hk/story...data/hk/story/data/2059.xml&catref=cat1890131

I hope that came through!

I'm off to my walk and going to try and choose wisely even with the extra kids coming over today...I'll probably be too busy to eat this weekend!!! Wouldn't that be GREAT! :)

Talk to y'all soon....I'm sooo excited reading everyone's posts just not enough sitting time to respond! :)

Tara

Maria: Good for you! I knew you could do it! Just take it one day at a time, and if you have a bad day, get back on track the next day. I know what you mean about those sour cream and cheddar chips. I only allow myself to buy one bag a month (the weekend after my weigh in), and I do eat almost all of it in one sitting--but that is my monthly treat! And I love it! But if I had it every week, that wouldn't be good.

NikkiBelle: Congrats! You are doing great! :cheer2: 28 pounds! WOW! That is super!

Jen: Thanks for the info on the instruments. She needs to try some out to see how they will work for her.

Lisa: Are you around? How is your week?

Hoping this weekend goes well since I am now less than 2 weeks away from my weigh in. I think we are going to see Flight Plan this weekend. It is at the 'cheap' theater (we have an old fashion movie theater in a small town about 1/2 hour from us that shows movies for $3 with $1 soda and popcorn).

Plenty of middle school drama here. Oh for our days of homeschooling!!!

Last weekend at the 'sleepover' my DD had with her best friends they did the 'tell everyone the name of the boy you like' thing. WELL, yesterday the boy my DD said she liked asked her best friend out (whatever that means for a 12 year old). Then her best friend sat down at the table at lunch and asked everyone at the table to be quiet so she could ask my DD a question. With everyone watching she told my DD that this boy asked her out and was it alright with her if she said yet. Well my DD was SO embarassed because these other girls didn't know she liked him and they are all looking at her wondering why her friend is asking this. My DD just said, I don't care what you do. So she went back and told the boy yes. THEN last night at the choir concert my DD's best friend decided she didn't really like this boy and asked my DD to tell him she wanted to break up! GESH! We talked and DD has decided to stay out of it and just tell her friend to deal with this situation herself. My DD was in tears about this last night and she feels so hurt by her friend.

Oh for the days when the problem was about sharing toys! Those problems I could fix! This one, I can't make better.

I miss grade school!

Debra

Welcome, Ashley!

Hello, everyone!

I have had the craziest week. Usually, I work about 5 hours a day during the week. My hours are project-based, so I can come and go as needed to work around other things (kids, appointments, etc.)

Well, last Thursday I worked a show for a business' stockholders' annual meeting. I was in charge of graphics (so I made last minute corrections and then made sure the right slide was up on the big screen during the speakers' presentations). I got to wear a headset and everything. I had to be there EARLY to help get things set up. (wired, etc.) There were huge amounts of pastries, soda, donuts, etc. available, but managed to keep with fruit. However, I was starving by lunch and stopped at McDonald's. Eek!

Then there were two last minute projects that needed to be completed in time for a trade show. I wound up working Saturday, Monday, until almost 10 pm on Tuesday (skipped dinner-I didn't realize I'd be there that long), got up Wednesday morning at 5:00 am because I was so hungry, then worked Wednesday (which was my Birthday-there's a cake in the house), and Thursday. All this while helping kids with homework, Brownie meetings, and religous class Wednesday night. ... Today, I have off...

So, needless to say, my weight loss plans have taken a turn for the worst this week. Still hovering around 190 (+-1). This is the point where I usually stop trying. But this thread is helping me try to get back to it. So, I took some measurements, and I've lost 1" each on bust/waist/hips. So, I'll use that as motivation and keep plugging along.

I noticed lots of comments regarding band, so I thought I'd chime in. I played clarinet for years (my mom played it, so in 4th grade that's the only one I wanted) . I started in 4th grade and played through to a few years of marching and concert band in college. (Haven't really played in about 15 years.) In highschool, I played clarinet (regular, E-flat, and bass), saxophone (tenor and bari), and a little flute.

I loved it. I had braces. I tried the wax and floral tape thing, but hated it. I eventually just played, and had "track" imprints inside my lower lip for a long time. Eventually it went away. I also had asthma, and I believe playing (especially when I was trying the big, "lower" winds) really helped it. By the time I graduated highschool, I no longer had it.

That's it for now. Good luck everyone -- keep on losing!

Thanks KathyT, that is good to hear that someone else with asthma was able to handle the wind insturment. She doesn't like to be treated differently, and wants to try everything, but I worry about her. Ours isn't a marching band, so we don't have to worry about her marching and playing at the same time. They perform on stage sitting down, so she may be able to handle it.

Boy, I would have had a terrible time around donuts. I love donuts! That was great you were able to resist them. It is hard to stay on program when you have a crazy day like what you described. That day if over and now is the time to look forward. Get back on track. Onward and downward! You can do it!

Debra

Well, this is sure a busy thread the past couple of days!! It's hard for me to keep up! It's hard to post at work, then when I get home, I am busy too! No rest for me.

It sounds like this is a pretty musical bunch of folks!! I can't play anything! I tried piano, but had no interest what so ever...I love to listen though!!!

My week has been terrible as far as food choices! I was bad!! I did not lose any weight when I weighed in today, but then, I didn't expect too b/c of what I have ate. Then, today we went for lunch to celebrate Boss's Day- Mexican food! I must start over tomorrrow on the diet, strictly 1200 calories and no more and exercise. This week, I have been drinking some water, so all is not lost...At least I didn't gain!!

DH and I are going to his hunting club today. I just go to be in the outdoors. It's near the Mississippi River and very peaceful. I read and sleep, then we cook out some.

Then Sunday, when we get back & after church Sunday night, I will be hosting the youth group from church at our house! I am doing sandwiches, so no major cooking to do. I just have to clean the house a little and go grocery shopping, which I hate to do both. But, they say you burn about 300 cal grocery shopping!!

Linda- Sonic is just another fast food place, but it's a drive-in only. They have burgers and ice cream treats, w/ a 50's theme, your food is delivered by waiters on skates at some locations.

Kathy- I hope your final day has been fun!! I am looking so forward to my trip to WDW in Jan.

Jen- You are a very busy girl!! I mean with all you do- Band, Cheerleading, Homework, yearbook, Exercise, Grocery shopping, babysittting...how do you ever plan on getting any sleep??? You go girl!!! I would love to have all that entergy again!!!

Nikkibell- Congrats!!! 28 Lbs!! That's great!! Way to go!!

Ashley- Welcome!!! I am new myself! This has been a great motivator for me. It's good to talk with others!!

KathyT- I am with you on the 190+/- 1lbs. That's exactly where I'm at!! 189!! And holding!! I really hope I do better this week.

Jean- I am also dreaming of 150!!! I was 212 in July!! Now I am 189!! I have so much to lose, it's hard to not get discouraged...but we will make it!! I want to make it by January, but I must start to do better. WE WILL be there!!!! I hope the rain stops soon!!

Maria- Hope you feel better soon. Remember to eat chicken soup, take zinc and Vit C!! That's what my momma always tells me!! I bought the yogurt too!! It sounds good. I hope it is! We love Sonic...but it's bad for you! Even the salads!! Lots of high cal dressing.

Tara- I like plants too. I put out Mums last Sunday. They are huge and very colorful. I hope your cold is better too. Chicken soup, zinc and Vit C!!! You are in my prayers!! You will need them to babysit all those kids!! Did you say 6 kids?? At your house all weekend?? How in the world do you have that much patience?? I would be crazy!!! I'm having a hard time with one dog!

Debra- I also try to plan my food. I count cals, what are the points?? WW? Maybe I could do that? They have the points listed on the foods at the store, it seems like a very easy plan to follow. 50-60 cal per points? So, you could have up to 20-24 pts per day for 1200 cal diet?

I hope I have not left anyone out..If so, please forgive me, this is a lot to keep up with, but it's nice to see a lot of activity!! There doesn't seem to be too much activity on the others threads about WDW, sometimes it takes several days before anyone answers your questions.

Have A Good Weekend!!!! Try to rest some!!!!

Steph,
You do sound busy! Not gaining is good, and I bet next week you will see a lower number on those scales!

Points are from Weight Watchers, and it is a little more complicated than 50 calories per point. They have a calculator to figure actual points, but one of my WW leaders told me that if you don't know all the numbers, just use 50 calories per point. Then I started looking at the points and calories and found that it really is usually around 50-60 calories a point. I think it is more accurate to use calories though. For example, those PhillySwirl bars I told Maria about. They are 0 points but they are 10 calories. Well if you only have one it really isn't much, but I have about 5-6 of them a day (I know that sounds like a lot, but they get me through my day!). So that is 50-60 calories. That should be a point. But if I only figured up the points each time I had a bar, I would never count that.

I am a lifetime WW member and former leader (I hadn't told this group that before, I am a little embarrassed that I use to lead classes a few years ago, and then this year on Jan 1 I saw the scale go up to 204 pounds! It isn't WW's fault--I stopped following program and I was eating a lot of junk without thinking about it). Anyway, WWs is a great program and I do recommend it. It is just, for me, I find it easier and more accurate to count calories, but still use the lessons I learned in WW to keep me going.

I only weigh in once a month now, but I like that monthly check, so that is why I wait all month to see if I made that 5 pound per month lose (I do check myself at home every day. I bought a digital scales in January when I started this journey).

We all have bad weeks. I have had weeks I have gained during the year, but I just get right back on program and start back on the road to losing. This group has been a great source of motivation.

Debra

Hi!
I am alive! This week was pretty good for me eating wise, but I got sick! :( However, I'm slowly recovering...shouldn't there be a law against germs?! I mean really...I don't miss them when they are gone! LOL!
Nothing really new to report in my life. I'm constantly in awe of how much I have to do and how it seems to actually get done! LOL!
Again, I love hearing about all the successess of everyone! Keep up the excellent work! You all inspire me! :)

Lisa

Hi Everyone!

Jean and I are still plugging along in the rain and wind here. I think it's been seven days now since I've seen the sun. Supposedly, we are getting a break Sunday or Monday. I really think I could beat this cold if I could dry it out. :sunny:

Anyone ever have a moment when you knew a higher power was guiding your day? I had one of those. I woke up feeling worse than usual this morning, but knowing I had to get to this conference (about a half hour drive away). I was going to drop my dh and ds at his school, so dh could wait with him for the bell and then take the Subway to work. When we got there, I told dh I was going to actually wait for him in the car, I just didn't think I was going to the conference because of how poorly I was feeling, much worse than yesterday. DH came back and started to drive home. He said he didn't like how the car was moving, and he just wanted to get it home. When he did we could see there was a problem with one of the tires, so he took it to the tire store for repair. I am so grateful I didn't feel well! Otherwise I would have been on the road, by myself, with a faulty vehicle. There's no reason I should have felt worse today, I should have felt better. I think my dh thinks I'm nuts, but I firmly believe that we had help from above. You know, like the story about the angel of death that comes for the farmer's wife, but Jesus diverts it to the cow? I realize it's not the same thing, but I'm still feeling warm and fuzzy (and not from the cold, in a good way!).

So, I was at home today. Here's my actual eating plan:

B: shredded mini wheats and milk (4 pts)
Morning Snack: 2 chocolate chip cookies (3 pts)
L: Chicken soup w/rice & cupcake (7 pts)
Afternoon Snack: 100 calorie sandies & tea (2 points)
Dinner: New England Clam Chowder & Ritz 100 calorie bag (6 pts)
Evening Snack: 100 calorie sandies & hot tea (2 pts)

I know that's 2 points over my goal, but I'm o.k. with that today. The chocolate chip cookies and cupcake were not part of any good eating plan. I ate them, it's over. I'm still going with this small evening snack to signal to my brain that we are done eating for the day.

I'm already thinking about tomorrow's plan:

B: shredded miniwheat and milk (4 pts)
L: Minestrone soup w/Ritz 100 calorie bag (6 pts)
Afternoon Snack: Popcorn (4 pts)
Dinner: Baked Haddock w/rice (8 pts)
Evening Snack:Lindt ball (2 pts)

My goal is to not use the flex points (extras you can use over the week), but when I'm going over 2 per day, that's essentially what I'm doing. That should still be enough to lose!

Debra -- I should have known you were a WW leader! You always have some knowledge or a bit of motivating advice. I have been through WW 3 times, so you would think following the program would be second nature to me. I just never did well with writing everything down, and it shows! Posting my plans here is actually more motivating for me, because in some way I'm committing to what I will eat.

Steph -- I sympathize with you about Boss's Day. We are taking my boss out on Monday, and who knows where we'll go?! My boss and our assistant aren't on any sort of eating plan (they even drink regular soda), so it's really going to be up to me to be careful with my choices. Just about anywhere they choose, I should be able to eat soup or salad and skip dessert. I am bringing some 100 calorie sandies to work with me, so after lunch I know I will have a treat with tea to look forward to.

Kathy T. -- You have had a rough week, I think we've all been muddling a bit for various reasons. I am also in the range where I usually give up, but I'm just not going to do it this time. I am determined to keep some control this week. I know next week will be better, as long as I keep trying!

Debra -- Oh your poor baby! Isn't it worse because it brings back the memories of how traumatic those years are? Junior High is just, tough. Boys and girls are mean (both on purpose and without a clue), and it's so hard to suffer through the crushes that you know are going to break your heart. I sympathize with you and your dd. I hope she feels better soon.

Tara -- Thanks for the great recipe! I have printed it and will give it a try. The advice in the article is sound, too. I'm going to keep raising my temperature and salting myself like a cod! Good luck with your weekend. You are indeed a brave soul to take on a gaggle of children! I wish you energy, peace, and that good feeling that comes from knowing you are doing something wonderful and priceless for your friends. Peace of mind about their kids will allow them to concentrate on themselves, and that is a precious gift.

Jean -- O.k., you are clearly affected by the flooding! Wow...I hope everything works out o.k., and your home continues to stay dry. The rain has to end sometime, and it would a shame for people to miss your wonderful event. It really sounds like a great time for all.

Nikki -- We haven't forgotten you! So glad to hear you are doing well.

Linda, Kathy, Lisa, Jen, Haley and everyone else -- I hope your ready for a wonderful weekend, and you are able to relax and feel good about all the great things you are doing to be healthy!

C'ya Real Soon!

I hate TOM!!!!!

A stupid excuse I know, but that coupled with the rain and the cold=Jen overeating because there was nothing else to do. Well, it was a pretty bad eating day yesterday (2 cups cereal=4, 1 slice 2-point toast...1 slice Domino's Cheese Pizza=4, Jen's Special Sauce-age 10, and a couple of hotdogs at the game). We lost the game...pretty badly. 6-38...against a pretty good team. Band was good.

Band-the band teacher almost made us cancel our Disney trip!!!! We are going over a concert. My brother is the only clarinet in his section of the band...and I am in first section, which means he could have legally failed us. We talked to the principal, superintendent-I was so furious. My family had been wishing for this for years! To think that he could crush my dreams was heartbreaking. But he didn't!!! I love K (principal!!)

Exercise: Marching, I guess. It's been cold and rainy and busy here.

Water: At least something I did great on. 40 ounces last night!

Today is going to be very busy...I can feel it!

I have lost all of 0 pounds in October...a little discouraging and disheartening.

Little victories today and this week:
Fairly good eating week
Went back to cheerleading
Good amount of water
Good eating during TOM
OK choices at the game

Debra-Those are awesome tricks!!! I might try some of them!

Thanks Maria. I don't like meal traps...I'm stuck in a rut and we need to go grocery shopping!

Congrats NikkiBell!!

Travelgirl-I get sleep on weekends...and maybe for 6-7 hours each night. And it's easy! Most of my meetings are during school (some during AA, band is eighth period, yearbook meets sixth period). Cheerleading is on Weds from 4-5. Grocery shopping is sporadic. Homework gets done ASAP. Babysitting is on weekends only now.

I think I'm going off to go do some exercise now. Today I have to shop, go to the library to pick up my book that's in, and call the Animal Shelter (I have to get 5 volunteer hours in for my Teen Issues class) because they haven't called me back yet.

Had priority seating for Kona Cafe for breakfast. Headed over to MGM after eating and saw Muppet 3D, Disney animation, and got to draw Mickey. We decided none of us has any artistic talent. Lynne's picture looked the best of the 3.

Went to Mama Melrose's for a late lunch before heading to Typhoon Lagoon.
Went on the water coaster twice, swam with the sharks, and did a couple of other slides before it closed.

My nephew and family came over again tonight. Zack(4) was the first one to the door and asked Erin where Lynne was. We were sitting our on the balcony when he came through the door and leaped onto Lynne's lap. Must be the glue working again.

Went to DT Disney as Matt & family had never seen it in the evening. Erin was pushing the stroller with Aidan when a lady in the toy store commented on how well behaved her son was. We got a good laugh out of that comment because Erin gets mistaken as a 14 year old more often than not. Walked around for a couple of hours before walking to Saratoga Springs to get something to eat at the Artist's Palette. Took the boat ftom there to OKW. Zack was totally amazed with the boat ride. Got back to OKW about 10 pm and said our good byes. We needed to try and get some sleep before being picked up by the DME at 3:50 the next morning. Our flight wasn't until 7 am but they feel the need to get you to the airport with 2.5 hours to spare.

Flight home was uneventful. We flew into Regan Airport in DC. It turned out our connecting flight was taking off from the gate right next to the gate we flew into. Why conuldn't that have been the case on the flight down? Arrived in Hartford about 11:30 am, Lynne headed back to Maine while Erin and I headed back to Syracuse.

None of us were ready for the 4 days to be over. I felt I could stand to relax for at least another 2 - 3 day. Have gone back to the grind of being snowed under by work so much so that I worked 8 hours today and will probably work at least another 8 hours tomorrow.

I tried to fit a 3 mile walk in after work this afternoon. I guess my body hasn't recuperated from all the walking at WDW as I only accomplished 1.2 miles before my shins made me call it quits. Will have to do exercise with less strain on the legs for a few days.
