Ok, how sad is this. I finally (gulp) go to stand on the scale to see where my starting point has to be to try to post a hopeful loss at some point, and... the batteries in the scale are dead!! I know it worked last week when my son got on it (but I didn't). Maybe it is sick irony...I have to go buy a pack of Energizers to get myself going!!! :rotfl:

Have to hit Target tomorrow night...

Jen

Maybe this is a good sign. Let's hope for a loss.

Good morning....popping in w/late New Year's Wishes (I was airborne at midnight. Literally--red eye back from the west coast.) Stick to those goals and anything is possible. Sounds like a lot of success stories and not-yet success stories here. I survived a holiday week with family with only a 1/2 lb gain. Now...back to the diet/exercise regimen for me!

Hang in there, ladies. You can do it!

I would love to join the 150 club! I'm at 210 now--my highest weight ever-- so I know I have a ways to go....

Happy 2007 everyone!

I need to be in the 150 club. I only have 147.2 to go!!

Any support or suggestions anyone can lend would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! So glad to 'see' you! I was told to lose 100 (only 99 to get to 150), but I am going for a reasonable 65 for now. I have 25 of that to go for 2007. Then, in 2008 I will finish the final 35 pounds. Taking it at reasonable spaces has really helped me to stay focuses, and to keep from being overwhelmed.

Sending positive support and lots of morale boosts!

Wendy

I hope you all have big plans for the New Year. We will be sitting at home watching it all on TV. Istepped on the scale this morning and guess what, I'm 178!! I was just floored. I have lost a little over ten pounds this week. I guess that's what happens when you can't eat. I don't think it will last because I'm absolutely starved! As soon as I can eat, I'm going to stuff myself:blush:

Great job!

Wendy

Welcome Monica! And all the new folks since I have been ‘missing’ for 2 weeks. Did get caught up on life and all the other obligations! Had a nice Holiday, and now ready to get back into the swing. I am at a net zero for the Holidays. No loss, no gain. :goodvibes I did try to give away a few pounds, but no one wanted them!

Time to get caught up and stay on track! Happy New Year to all!

Jen—the battery god struck your home! I seem to always have battery issues. Maybe the scale wasn’t ready for the amazing loss it is going to see!

Maria—Thank you for the kind words concerning my late father in law. I am seeing improvement, yet the sadness is still strong. I know it will get better. We are all just happy he had a great life and we honor it often. I also read your post on marathoning for dummies. I am a walker, since I am finally up to fast walking, I would like to get to a jog by the summer. It’s been a year with the new dr and the diet and the healthier life style.

Michelle—hope all is going well with you and your recovery. You will much better with those tonsils gone! I love watching the Christmas parade. We record it and watch it again in the summer for a special night.

Melissa—Yeah! So very glad you hit your goal! Amazing! Wonderful! Those last pounds you want off will be gone soon! I am going to aim for the 180's this year with the `150' for next. I am just glad to see the first 40+ pounds gone.

Dona—Your Christmas was very busy from the sounds of it. We had a quiet one. Loved it! How was the party? Knitting, eh? Glad it helped! We stayed at home and watched football. It was also a nice quiet night. I think I must be getting old. I seem to like the quiet better than anything else.

Tara—How are you and all?

CoasterAddict—Hope the red eye travel is over for a bit! I don’t mind flying, but I don’t think I would do well with having to change time zones as well. I get out of whack too easily.

Kathy—all the details from the Mouse when you finally return and get free time!

Shellynn24—best to your DH! He will be in our thoughts.

Best of the week to all!

Wendy

WoW! I had some catching up to do today when I arrived here!!

WELCOME to JenEeyore and mishoe01! Pull up a chair and grab a glass of water! :yay: We're glad to have you aboard!

Okay gang let's get on the scales and pull out the measuring tapes so we can post some goals!! Have you got your plans tweeked? :cheer2:
Do you have your rewards thought out?

I am sticking with the same plan but I think I am gonna have to really buckle down on the bread slip ups. For some reason bread of any kind causes a gain for me. And I am going to have to start getting serious with the weights. I have some sagging areas that really needed firming! These last 15 could be a tough challenge! :headache:

By the way TARA where are you??????

I was surfing the web for a weightloss program, but we have also tighten our belt finacially so I couldn't bring myself to join anything that involved a credit card. I kept popping back to the window where I had the disboards community board open and I remember seeing the wish thing at the bottom of people's post so I started looking and I ended up here.

I am 5'9.5" tall and about 200 pounds, I hid the scale in a box when we moved here a year and a half ago but I will go for a walk in a few minutes and step on the one at a local medical clinic. They have let me use it before for the kids. I am going to do this with out the benefit of a diet plan by just changing how I eat and walking more. I will also attend Irish dance class once a week and practice twice a week, something I gave up 2yrs ago.

2.5 years ago DH was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, out of the blue, he is 6'1" and was 200 lbs so not really overweight. He changed his eating habits and now weighs about 175 and looks great. If he can do it, I can do it right?

My goal will be 150lbs. As a start I would like to lose 30lbs before our vacation in August. That is just under a pound a week but I'm not sure how realistic that is.

Cindy

HI everyone. Welcome to all the new people.

Well I finally got to clean out the frig this morning. They collect our garbage on Monday and Thursday and with Christmas and New Years on MOnday we have had limited garbage collection. We also can't put any kind of food out even in the cans bacause the squirrels have over run the yard since the dog died last year. They have been eating through our cans for the past year so we try not to put too much food out unless it is garbage day. Except for the icecream my son brought home the other day I am almost cleaned out of ynuk food that I like.

Time to get out my You on a Diet book and reread it to get started. I have been walking in the morning (in my living room in place) for the last couple of mornings and I am going home now to do an exercise tape since no one will be home until 5. I thought that this was going to happen on Tuesday but my older ds was home from work because he was sick. He's been sick since he came home from colege last month so I sent hime to our local clinic. He has a resp. infection and is on an antibiotice, at least it wasn't bronchitis like I thought that it could be.

Cindy 30 pounds sounds resonable depending on your age. When I was younger I could lose weight easier than I can now. My suggestion is just to try for a healthier lifestyle to start with.

Time to go home.

See you tomorrow.

Isn't Tara in DW for the marathon. I know that she isn't doing it but isn't her daughter or a friend doing it?

Hello ladies, I have some goals to post. I would like to maintain the weight loss from my surgery. I was 178, but I started eating solid food and jumped back up to 181. I knew that would happen, but I still don't like it. I will try to stay around 180 for now, get comfortable and then try to lose more after DH leaves for Korea. I also plan to buy an exercise bike to get some kind of workout at home. 30 pounds seems almost easy considering I started out at about 220 this time two years ago. I can do this!!!!

Welcome to all! It's nice to have more people to talk to, I like to talk

Michelle, you are absolutely right YOU CAN do this! :cheer2:

Dona, I think you are correct about Tara although I can't remember the details. WTG on the cleaning out that's always a signal I'm ready for a change! :thumbsup2

Cindy, I agree the 30 pounds is reasonable. Good luck and keep us posted on how it's going! We love to chat!!

I am so happy there are more people posting on this thread! :yay:

:grouphug:

Hello all!

Just a quick HI as I am out the door for work! I really need to take care of myself and log on more often. I enjoy reading and responding, and the support is great! Inspirational to the top!

Have a great weekend all!

Hi Everybody!

I'm too afraid to get on a scale -- I see how my clothes are fitting and it's not pretty. I also can't seem to put together a week of exercise and eating right.

I do fine during the day, I just fall apart at night. I'm not sure how to get around this, or over it, or whatever. I haven't been posting because I just don't have anything positive to say -- other than congratulations to everyone who is doing a great job!

It's a new year, but the new me seems very far away. I know this is mental. Actually, my entire life seems out of control. I can't even keep my kitchen table clear -- I know I need to get a handle on this, I just don't know where to start...

Thanks for listening,
Maria

HI everyone.

Maria I know what you are going through. I can't seem to get my eating under control either. I started again today. I worked out this morning and have been eating pretty good so far today. There has just been too many temptations in the house and as soon as I get them out dh brings some back in. It is starting to take a toll on my digestive system so that is what is keeping me in check today and hopefully for the rest of the week.

Take is one day at a time and if that is too long then think about one meal at a time.

I am also thinking about weighing myself every day now. I know it will be frustrating with fluctuations but at least I can see a low point and maybe keep on track better.

Keep coming here to talk about your frustrations. I know that it helpsme.

Hi, FWIW, I'd recommend *against* weighing every day...I know that for me, at least, bad eating never seems to show up until the *second* day after I've done it (maybe I'm just weird, not sure)...so you could end up thinking, oh, eating 1/2 a box of oreos wasn't so bad after all, I can eat the other half today...and getting a really nasty surprise the day after that... I picked a consistent day/time and try to stick as close to that as I can. Yes, my weight probably varies a bit day to day, but I figure it averages out in the end and that seems to be working. At least for me.

*However* I now seem to be in a plateau. I'm grateful that I didn't get a December bounce back *up* but I've been holding for 3 weeks now. Last week I was back to normal eating and exercising and still no difference, so it's a little frustrating.

Does anyone else find the weekends to be more difficult then the weekdays?

I weighed myself, I'm starting at 180lbs alot less then the 200lbs that I guessed :cool1:

I slipped abit and ate junk food on the weekend but at least I was out and moving around not just sitting in front of the computer.

Today has been a good day. I followed the link off this board to SparkPeople and I have started keeping track of calories and exercise. I even went out for a brisk 35 minute walk. So I'm feeling pretty good.

I have decided to weigh and measure myself weekly.

I can do this. My current goal losing 30lbs and weighing 150lbs by August. 1lb per week.

Thanks so much for the encouragement.

Cindy age 36, I forgot to mention that earlier, is that to old to lose a lb per week?

Hi Again!

Dona, thanks for the encouragement.

Cindy, I hope you aren't too old to lose a lb per week, 'cause I'm 38 and that's what I'd like to lose!

O.k., so probably part of my problem is not coming to the DIS to get the check-ins I need!

Today I've eaten oatmeal w/blueberries & 1 pc. of cinnamon raisin toast, leftover shrimp scampi, celery, YOU snack mix (cheerios, dried cranberries & almonds), and cherries. Dinner tonight is chicken stir fry. I'm going to have clementines for a snack this afternoon.

I'm also inspired -- I'm going to commit to at least walking on the TM when I get home for half an hour.

Now, I just need to figure out a reasonable amount of dessert and stick to it. I'm thinking maybe a half cup of light ice cream? I have Edy's Grand Light Vanilla Bean in the freezer. We have so much chocolate and junk in our house, I want to just eat it to get rid of it, which I know is a bad idea!

Thanks again for cheering me with your posts!
Maria

Hi, one last time today, I promise!

I did do 40 minutes on the TM when I got home, and I feel really good. I didn't run, I just walked, and I'm not even sore.

Now all I have to do is actually get on the bike tomorrow -- and I'll have two days in a row! {giggles}

I packed my healthy lunch & snacks for tomorrow -- soup, 100 cal pretzels, celery, cherries, clementines, it's actually very colorful. I'll stick with the usual oatmeal or cereal w/blueberries for breakfast. I added raisin toast today, and I found I wasn't hungry until lunch. I'm going to do that again tomorrow.

Tomorrow's dinner is leftover ham and beans. Thank goodness for the crock pot, I just freeze a meal over the weekend and we're good to go.

I'm thinking about getting on the scale, but putting it off. I need to give myself a few weeks to take off some pounds, or I will get too depressed when I see that high number. I have been going in the wrong direction for too long!

I gathered all my January magazines, and I'm trying to read all the positive articles about changing your life. I'm hoping to get excited and get going. Where's the Biggest Loser when you need it?!

Maria
