15 Pass Van ?

Are these hard to drive? I have heard that they are not the safest thing to drive (can tip easy) is this true? Trying to decide whether to drive a Tahoe and a mini-van for 14 people (10 kids aged 9-11) or rent the 15 pass. I am thinking the van would be easier driving straight though (15 hours) as we would have 4 adults swapping off instead of 2 per vehicle.

Most of the issues with 15 passenger vans is when they are near gross weight limits so with mostly kids tha is not an issue. with that said they are big so if you are no used to a big pickup they can be a challenge. IN most cases 2 minivans are a lot less expensive for rental. If you alreaday have a reliable set of verhicles then no way would I pay the high price for a 15 passenger

I would pick 2 vehicles so you have more flexibility also, if everyone does not want to go the same place at the same time.

They do roll over easily, especially at high speeds. I would definitely not drive one over 55 mph, so your trip would likely take quite a bit longer than you think.

Another thing to consider is that the seats are very uncomfortable. I can't imagine riding in for for that long. No one will get any rest.

I would take 2 vehicles.

This is my question too, because it won't fit the 4th bech is almost against the rear doors.


As far as being safe, I have been in and driven these at freeway speeds no problem. I was also in a rollover were another passenger took her seatbelt off a few minutes too soon and died. I will say though that the vehicle malfuntioned and then the driver made an error.

We rented one last year and it was a PITA. No room for luggage at all and no way to get the luggage in. You could slide a couple of pieces under the back seat, but the rest has to be on the seats with the people, unless you get one of those turtles for the roof. Also, most rental companies make you sign a wavier once they tell you about roll over and that you can not have any children other than your own family in the van. (This was a first for us when we rented from Alamo last year). They are a PITA to park too. My husband normally drives a Ford F350 pick up truck with a crew cab and extended bed. This was about the same length, so he knew how to park it. We will never rent a van of this size again.
