14 Children are not enough???

I come from a family of 8. The older ones were responsible for the younger ones, and the older ones were always looking after us. We started doing work around the house when we were able and I don't think that was a bad thing. I know sometimes I didn't want to do the work but it was good in the long run. What is wrong with kids doing some work around the house? They live there right?

According to the magazine article, she had someone comoing in twice a week to help with laundry, and also the kids take on A LOT of the chores--each older child is responsible for one of the younger children as far as getting dressed, etc., and they also teach each other while being homeschooled. While this made sense out on the prairie or whatever, personally, I don't agree with it. I have no problem with asking an older kid to grab me a diaper or something, but I consider the baby to be MY responsibility, not theirs. They're crazy about her and love to help out, but I just wouldn't make it "their" job.

Sounds to me like she is using the Gilbreth's book "Cheaper By the Dozen" as a "how-too".... The book not the movie!::yes::
Though I would love to have a large family 15 does seem more than large!

Hey, you know, if they aren't depending on hand outs, and they seems like a pretty decent family, more power to them. I personally am going crazy with my two boys this evening, but some people are cut out to deal with constant pandemoneum. My DS went to a bday party the other day, and this Mom has 5 boys, all under 11...I didn't walk around their home, but from what I could see from the entryway she seemed quite organized (milk crates with each boy's name on one, hooks for each boy, etc), and what a loving family! They truly are warm, friendly people, and yes they are religious too. Religious people aren't always a bad thing, I promise! ;)

My GF is one of twelve. She said the older kids all helped take care of one of the younger kids. She said she never got the attention or nurturing she needed. She is close with some of her siblings but the rest, she just says there are too many to keep up with so she picks and chooses who her family remains close with.

Yadasdabomb what is the name of the book about the original Cheaper by the Dozen family? I thought I had the name of the book once but didn't find it anywhere but thought I'd try again but don't have the name.

I saw them not too long ago on some tv show. I don't recall hearing the mom was pregnant, but it was definitely the same family.
